Solo ATV Camping Trip: I End Up Bailing From Camp!

  • I set out on a Solo ATV Camping trip traveling into the backcountry where I find a great camp spot. This was a serene ride on the ATV down a long trail that crosses through a ponderosa pine forest. I set up camp, cook dinner, and head out to explore a plateau enjoying some great views of a canyon that was once a traveled trail. I wrap up the evening by enjoying a beautiful sunset when shortly thereafter I begin to hear a lot of grunting from various points of camp. Feeling highly uncomfortable I decide it was best to bail from camp.

If you got an ATV it is super fun to explore the backcountry and do some camping. I appreciate you watching and I am always happy to hear feedback. New Mexico is beautiful. Take care buddy.

      Thank buddy. It was an intense evening and will go down as my most creepiest experience by far. I think the part that go to me the most was the grunt at about 250ft without even hearing walking in the forest. It could have charges, I suppose? and I would have not even had a chance to react. I am glad to be safe also and that night drive had its own vibe, probably due to the bears. Cheers buddy!

    It can get spooky sometimes, just lately I changed and started cooking & eating away from where I sleep. Maybe a little paranoid but better safe then a night time visit. I should also Store any food away from camp, but I haven’t done that yet. Maybe one of those high lume lights need to be on your Santa list. I also bring along a shorty single shot shotgun & she bucks. I think I want a bigger tent like you have, that air mat has me envious of you & A table - you the man! With fire restrictions is a camp stove still ok to use? As always take care & be safe my brother.

    • @ManzanoManATVAdventures
      @ManzanoManATVAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is not a bad idea to cook away from camp. I have never really thought that over much, but now I can see this being a good option. I do store my trash away from camp and it is probably a good idea to do the same with all my food.
      Bears aren't really a problem in New Mexico to campers. We have a good population of bears but usually there is enough for them to eat. We have been very dry so I think food is very limited giving them room to explore options to eat.
      Having a shotgun would have been the ticket over my 45. I still coward down to that family of bears.
      I will tell you what. To sleep on a mattress is so comfortable, plus the small table and chair was nice! I will have to get some better light gear no doubt for the future.
      Camp stoves are okay to use under the fire restrictions we have. It would have been so awesome to had one going this evening.
      Thanks for watching and take care buddy. Be safe!

    ATV camping - how cool!!! On my last trip we found several small lakes, at the end of the trails, with camp sites. My brother-in-law is really into the ATV camping, so he's going back in with his gear and a small boat.
    8:24 - nice view!
    14:25 - WOW!
    17:54 - Mmmmmmmmm jalapeno pepper! Soooooo good! That looked like a heck of a good supper!
    25:53 - another nice view!

I was sleeping and I was in my roof top tent when I was woke up by the sound on a chip bad being ripped apart right below me in the bed of my truck. So I grabbed my gun and went outside to find a skunk eating my food. He jumped into the bed of my truck and found my snacks. Chalk it up to another adventure of a lifetime. Keep it real friend.

So it is short haha.
      No kidding on the flash light. I actually just got a rechargeable head light that is pretty bright. I look forward to putting it to use this weekend. I am going to go on a ATV ride and camp Friday. So I should have a video up next week. Take care buddy and keep it real too bro.

      I am wondering if it was Bigfoot or Bear. I know this mountain range has been on a Bigfoot episode. All I know is it was creepy and I wasn’t going to wait and find out lol. But I do enjoy getting out on trips, even solo ones. Take care and have a great evening.

    Campfire would help. Animals smell your garbage and frying pan. Carry bear spray. Also, put an LED light bar on that quad. Great videos. Back seat driver here 😂😂😂😂

      A campfire would have helped big time. You are absolutely right that they can smell garbage and the frying pan. Even with that stuff being away from camp it didn't detour them from closing in. I will have to get some led lights on the quad. It would have done so much better driving at night. This night will be a story for the rest of my life!
      Thanks for watching buddy.

    You are a brave man. I am just starting and just purchase a 1000 Polaris and want to camp but my wife doesn't think it is a good idea to be alone.

    • @ManzanoManATVAdventures
      @ManzanoManATVAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What type of Polaris did you buy? Congrats to you on your purchase. In the beginning my wife was against it, but she did soften up to the idea in time. My recommendation for your first time solo camping is to do it in a place you are familiar with. That is a great break in for your first. Thanks for watching and visiting.

      @@ManzanoManATVAdventures I bought a Polaris 1000 Touring. I have some land in East Texas so I will take your advice and camp there first. It would be a dream to come out and camp in New Mexico. The scenery is amazing. I bought it to go on different trails all over the country.

      Gregory Wysingle you are going to have a lot of fun on your 1000. I think that sounds like a great plan to go and set up a trip on your land in East Texas. I would also enjoy traveling around and ride in different states. I follow a handful of channels and love seeing other places. If you every got a chance to make it to New Mexico and ride you are going to love it. We have some good mountain trails or rides in the desert part of the state. Either choice is great.
      Have fun on your ATV and take care.

    Crazy stuff at the end there man, we don't have the option to carry here in Canada unfortunately. Its situations like those where I wish we were aloud something more then a camp knife:p. Don't know if I'd feel comfortable channeling my inner DiCaprio from Revenant to defend myself lol. Great video my friend!

      Lol, no kidding. I rather have something more than a knife to defend myself. Thankfully we are able to carry because it gives me a peace of mind for sure. In fact this weekend I am thinking about heading up to this area for an overnight ATV camp trip. Its such a great spot back in there. Thanks for watching bud! Have a good day. I hope all is well in Canada.

      I live in Northern Michigan a legal CPL carry state. I carry almost all the time especially in my vehicle. I moved here 12 years ago and been carrying ever since. People are crazy nowadays! I fear crazy people and druggies more than the Wolves; Coyotes; Bobcats and Black Bears; Moose and Elk in the wild. I can't image living without a firearm! Firearms are EQUALIZERS for the good guys.

    Hey, your videos are so good. What cameras and drone do you use. Also what do you use to edit. Thanks I'm getting ready and my bike should be here in Texas .next week.

      I shoot everything with my IPhone 8 Plus. I have it set for 1080 60fps in all my scenes. The other camera I use for shots that require a little zoom is the Panasonic HC-V180. For my video editing software I am editing with Cyberlinks Power Director. The drone I use is the DJI Mavic Pro Platinum.
      Are you planning on recording? I would love to follow you on your video journeys. That is awesome your ATV is about to arrive in Texas. You are going to have so much fun. I appreciate you watching and your kind words. Take care.

      I just took a look and that is the weirdest thing I have seen. The time is continuing, but the video is froze. I will have to contact TH-cam and see if they can fix this. I really appreciate you leaving me a comment about this. That is a big time bummer.

    Nice video, but i have a question, what would you do if a wild animal attacks you in the night? or your ATV damages and you cant continue your way in the middle of the jungle?

    • @ManzanoManATVAdventures
      @ManzanoManATVAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have never been to concerned about animal attack primarily because it is not common for animals where I live to attack. Sure there is a small risk, but I feel confident in it not happening. As for the ATV I am up to date with maintenance and try to stay one step ahead. Thanks for watching.

    What type of gps do use when out ?

    • @ManzanoManATVAdventures
      @ManzanoManATVAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t have a GPS. I am actually using GAIA GPS which is a phone APP and they also have a website to use. I’ve been using a bought version of the APP and it has lots of useful tools for riding.
