omg another one of these! Again, they should make this a saturday night thing during the intermission and have someone as a guest who can talk about the topic of the video. Make it happen Sportsnet
Must've been when Serge was running the Habs and gainey the Stars in '93 (Bettman's first year). Did the Stars try to poach someone?? I can't remember.
I wondered if these animations were done before Burke left because why would they be making them while he was working for the Pens? Then again, he's wearing a Penguins jacket in this animation.
Burke acted like a petulant child when that offer sheet came out. It was pretty funny, I'd love to see Lowe's take on this story too. The snide back and forth was pure comedy, I really wish that rumored barn fight actually happened, they would have redeemed some of the high school petty spat drama of it all. I wish offer sheets were used more, the unwritten rule bullshit about it all is as bad as baseball can get. Offer sheets only drive up contracts because of the arbitrator rfa situation. Free agents get what someone is willing to pay on the market. More and more teams are realizing that players best value on the ice is when they are early in their career and under team control. If money started to go to those guys I'd have no problem. Often it's the free agent contracts paying for past performance that sink teams. I get why the old boys club colludes to lower young players leverage, but I sure as heck don't support it. It means players don't get a chance to get paid unless they are lucky to have longevity. One injury early in your career means that teams get your peak years at pennies on the dollar, and don't have to sign you for big bucks when your are statistically on the downhill anyway.
I'd never waist my time on a offer sheet if I was a GM. If it's market value, other team just matches and you helped them out in a way, when you want them to overpay.Too high and you screw yourself,if it's not matched. You over pay and lose the draft picks, and you need your teams original picks to match. The perfect storm situation has to be in play just to even think about it. Signing team needs cap space, and the draft picks. losing team needs to be in cap hell so they don't match. I was really hoping someone would have signed Laine the last time around for the max. Would have liked four 1st rounders for the overpriced contract.
So someone please tell me why Jeff Marek is drawn wearing a Toledo Storm shirt? First the Storm hasn't been a team in like 15ish years and they were ECHL. No disrespect to the ECHL. In fact that's where I found my love for the game but this was still early in the leagues development. Did Marek play hockey at some point, then I guess the shirt would make sense? As far as I could find he's basically never left Canada (I'm half joking with the never left Canada jab but honestly all his recorded work has been in Canada).
Everything Burkie says is gold. Half the hockey world can’t watch sports net if they wanted to. So why do these get pared down so much? I realize the animation is cute but if these were posted relatively longform this could really take off
I usually enjoy these, however, Jeff Marek is a complete tool. I wonder how many fans stopped listening to Hockey Central at Noon, since he became host. When did Rogers decide that talent doesn't matter anymore? Jeff Marek and Caroline Cameron will put you to sleep with their delivery, as hosts. "Am...I..reading...from...a...teleprompter?" Rogers doesn't care about the customers viewing experience. They want cheap...And could care less what the fans deserve. #wutang
I was ecstatic when he became the host. He's one of the only ones who is actually interesting. Also, Carolyn is fantastic. I think her monotone delivery kicks ass. It's confident and charming.
This NEEDS to be advertised more. This series is a home run and has next to no views to show for it
They're all on Burkie's book in case that's something you haven't dove into yet. Really fun read!
I agree. It’s better than Steve Dangle yelling at the camera
Couldn't agree more
The trainer just roasted the Sens, I’m gonna go cry now😭
Typical Toronto Sports Network chirp
Sportsnet, this series has been gold from the first episode. Why are you not marketing this more!?
omg another one of these! Again, they should make this a saturday night thing during the intermission and have someone as a guest who can talk about the topic of the video. Make it happen Sportsnet
Any one else hear these stories on burkie’s book? Glad they made animations for everyone else to enjoy
Hey Burkie is probably the best show on sportsnet besides hockey replays/highlights
Bettman sez, "What are we gonna do?". "We're gonna watch!" Pure gold. Funniest line in this series.
Old school hockey, is the best hockey.
What are we going to do...? -- We are going to watch......... 😂that's funny
I never knew Gainey and Savard (two former Habs teammates) nearly had a fight.
Must've been when Serge was running the Habs and gainey the Stars in '93 (Bettman's first year). Did the Stars try to poach someone?? I can't remember.
@@iFyvie I can't even remember this fight!!
Serge had a reputation of being very cheap
As if jeff marek is that juiced who is that guy kidding lmao
Jeff is a workout fanatic. Wouldn't surprise me a bit.
More stories from his days with the Ducks
Best one yet - filled with Easter eggs (Bieksa, Friedman,...)!
that didn't look like Juice at all tho. I even stopped & watched again after Friedman made the comment, & def not at the end
I love this series!
"I started moving tables out of the way..."
I love Brian Burke. Would love to takk hockey with this guy. Could listen to him all day
NEED MORE HEY BURKIE!
start out slow like the senators
Then go sicko mode when it’s too late
The best part 😂
Just a savage take down. Lovin it.

He didn’t want to stop doing them, thus these are always completed shortly before you see them. :)
@@Tbay164 So glad he didn't stop.
Burkey wanted to fight K Lowe in a barn, on PPV, with Big John McCarthy officiating.....or something like that, it’s been a while. Great series SN.

Interesting. Appreciate your take.

Where is part 2?
Love this inside stuff that can be told years after
wtf where is part two?
2:19 Is that Kessel in the background?
These are AWESOME.
These are AWESOME!!!
I do not understand what happened. This video made me have to look up the actual event being reference.
man loving the old school Guelph storm shirt!!!!!!!
why should kevin lowe have to call you about the offer sheet???
Hey, when is part 2, I am curious!
by the end of the month
this series is really good
MORE PLEASE!
Loving the Guelph Storm shirt 🔥
Does anyone know who Savard and Gainey almost fought about?
These are to Dang good hope for many more
Do more of these!!
Shoulda had Burkie lifting 200 with his pinky
y'know I wasn't sure how canadian you were until I noticed how you pronounced the word "staff" at the beginning there.
There is some greater editing and writing to make this happen.
Hey Burkie ever heard of one GM waiting for another GM to have a few drinks before he tries to make a deal?
So someone please tell me why Jeff Marek is drawn wearing a Toledo Storm shirt? First the Storm hasn't been a team in like 15ish years and they were ECHL. No disrespect to the ECHL. The suspense is killing me

Dustin’s mom was my nurse during an appendectomy. Nice lady.
Awesome!
I wonder if Burkie has a Mike Milbury story. He was a straight wackadoodle here in New York with the Islanders. I’d like to hear more about him.
is marek really inked up like that?
Ya
not quite that thick tho! like, C'MON.... 6 PLATES! Bro! why lie!?
Guelph? The Storm?! C’mon Jeffey!
Did they just do a "to be continued" in a 4 minute video? Yikes boys way to milk the views, eh?
These mini cartoon interruptions are getting in the way of the Burkie story telling..love his talks
I concur!!!! They are fricken' annoying!!!!
SHOUT OUT TO THE STORM JERSEY ON CARTOON JEFF MAREK
more snow than on a rocky mountain
Penner's golden years were definitely before he discovered Twitter.
Cool. Leafs in 5.
unlike the other teams we can shut down the mcdavids. mcdavid had 0 points in 3 games against us and we won all 3. GLG
and then what happened
Caroline's beauty doesn't translate well to this animation style.
Who is watching this after Jesperi kotkaniemi got offer sheet?
lol jeff marek is absolutely not benching 2 plates
Hope Bettman found his lost dog.
You offered wings for a pancake

These videos are good but horrendously over-produced. A podcast with Burkie telling stories would be 1000% better
This episode is hella cursed
"The real story" AKA Brian Burke's story
To be continued- dont waste your time on this
Weight problem = likes to drink too much
Cool videos but they need to lose the cyclist girl. Am I missing something, what's the point?
Love hearing these stories but holy smokes are these videos corny
Why is this Caroline girl in this? Wtf did she bring to this story....
Even the cartoon version of Jeff Marek is cringe and far from his true physique.
