We did the Basel-Amsterdam trip in 2019 and have nothing but raves to offer for the trip. We did it in mid-September and I can't imagine a better time for it. Nice comfortable days, no heavy coats, rain on only one day, and that for a short period. I was 72 at the time and my wife was 70 and with two replaced knees and we don't remember ever being tired or hurried. The bus drivers were amazing, and worth all the tips they got from our group. The food was tremendous, the crew and staff were amazing. I don't understand all the complaining I'm seeing in this video. My advice to anyone is to just go with the flow and enjoy the whole experience. Our Viking cruise was one of the more relaxing weeks I've had in a long time.
The two of you seem like such a fun loving couple. In our mid sixties and our children are constantly complaining we need to grow up. We are booked for the same route in mid December of 2024. We are doing the Christmas markets tour. So some of the excursions are different. We do get out and hike a bit so hopefully this should be moderately walkible. Sorry to hear about the troubles you had on your flight over. That was a good reminder that things happen. So glad we booked an extra day in Basil to start our trip.
Just wanted to say that we have seen over a hundred Viking Rhine River videos and I learned more from yours than all of them!!! Thank you. We are going on the same cruise July 31, 2024.
We just booked our first Viking rhine cruise! Thanks so much for making this video because there are not many out there about it. We hope to see the rest of your cruise soon too. :)
We are doing this same cruise in June. I am so glad that you mentioned the time on your day in Basel. We won't land in Basel until 1pm so I think that we will most likely miss out on the walking tour (unless they do it later since they booked our flight!) but it appears that we will have time in Basel to look around...IF our flight gets there on time. lol Thanks for sharing.
We did this cruise in Aug. 2023. You are right about the walking. And being on tour no time for bakery stops. I loved all the video as I only have pics. My husband agrees with you on the oatmeal raisin😂
My wife and I went on a Christmas Cruise on the Rhine this past Christmas. We started in Amsterdam and ended in Basel. We took a precruise extension. I'm glad we did. Thouroughly enjoyable cruise.
Enjoyed the story of the delayed flight but had to abandon viewing once you got to the river as the excessive camera movement was making me feel queasy.
Hey guys the first 12 mins are about your mishaps during your flight to Basel, which is not part of the Rhine cruise. It should be cut and put in a different video.
Thanks for the suggestion! I ultimately decided to keep it in because this video is more to document our vacation as a couple than it is a viking review
Yes, Coral, for those of us who seldom travel to Europe, it's great to know "stuff" happens, and not to let it be a bad experience, but part t of the adventure!😢 Looking for parts 2 & 3?
Absolutely not! That's why my friend and I are flying in the day before. Booking thru Viking, they generally want to fly you into Basel morning of departure.

Most informative video I have seen so far- we are going October 2024. Hopefully we don’t encounter the flight delay
Enjoy your trip! We loved the October time of year
