Great ending to a great show. This finale was probably better than Seinfeld's, Cheers', or Friends'. And this final montage was really good because it didn't have a single clip from any episode. It was all "home movies" of the family and friends. I don't even like country music, but this song really nice.
Just finished rewatching the whole series after 24 years - I'll always love Paul and Jamie. This clip is perfect and it made me cry again, after all these years. 💛
She directed it. Herself, Paul Reiser and Victor Levin wrote it. Sheila Amos was the editor of the episode. Bobby Byrne was the director of photography. (edit: yeah, ten years later lol)
This was just on moments ago & I still cried. These good times, this relationship we watched for years was exactly how me & my late husband (due to 9/11) were. We loved watching this & I love watching it each day. A REBOOT is talked about & Paul is on the fence but says they’d probably go for it if green lighted. I’d love that but given the way they ended it with grown Mabel & older Buchmans, IDK how they’d do it. I say pick up where she said Thanks for a wonderful engagement & go through Mabel growing up like the character’s clips showed. It’s an idea because I’m hoping against hope... because my world is cold, I need a hand to hold (still) and give me love that this show did for us (💔RIP, C).
WHAT A GREAT TV Series and WONDERFULL FAITH HILL SONG!! Makes me cry floks! LOVE THIS SONG, because this is not a ballad and has a TERRIFIC LYRICS!!! I think I'll be listening FAITH HILL FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK!!!!
When I first watched this, I had recently watched the series finale of both Cheers and Everybody Loves Raymond, both to a fair bit of disappointment. When this scene ended, I stood up in my college dorm, pointed at the TV and yelled: “Now THAT is how you end a series!”
Before that they flash into 2021 and Paul and Jamie had broken up some time before hand. Still after seeing one of Mabel's movies together they kiss, Jamie asks if they want to get some pie, Paul says yes, and Mabel narrates "He took her home that night and never left"
I know what you mean.. very unusual to use NEW footage for a montage unlike most shows which do more like a "look back" with old footage from previous shows. Nice directing job by Ms Hunt I'd have to say to get all of these actors to happily ablige for these montage scenes :)
This song/scene is bittersweet for me. Love Mad About You...a totally underrated song and great finale directed by Helen. It makes me sad though because after 29 years together (21 of which being engaged) my mother and step father officially married (just them, me, step brother and step sister present)and this was their “recessional song.” We lost my step father after a lengthy fight with COPD exactly 10 months later.
Thank you so much Mitchell! I just bought the "collection" of Mad About You so I also got to watch the commentary with Helen and Paul which was great for little tidbits.. I hadn't seen the ending since it aired! This was a nice ending, but funny listening to their commentary on it "this is your backyard (Paul's), this is my father's house (Helen's), how on earth did we get Carol Burnett to do a montage?!" etc lol Thanks again, greetings from Sydney :)
@miguelangdl Actually a lot of the show was them getting in fights and all that kind of thing. The series finale goes into the future where it shows that after the montage they got divorced and stayed that way for over ten years before remarrying in old age. As for the montage, everybody's got the fun memories, and that's what the record for home video
I have just been through an emotional experience. I’d just finish watching MAY and finally seeing Toy Story 4. I forgotten how good the Finale was. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming revival
you know that everyone in the writers room came up with idea of this episode including helen hunt was part of the writing process too. amazing writing to an end from a really great and smart sitcom.
Is this how the show ended? It's been ages since I saw the series finale but I thought they broke up. Can someone update me on what happens at the end of the series? I can't wait for the entire series to become available on DVD. We don't even have Season 3 in Australia yet :( If this is the season finale, did everyone know that Helen Hunt directed it? I found that out the other day. Neat fact, aye!
Angela Gatty I'm 19 and I watched this show last year. I'm obsessed with it! And it is so hard to believe that the series already existed when I wasn't alive yet. (Sorry for my english, I'm german😃)
Where is Season 7 and 8, the end of Mad About You. Its never been sold yet. somebody please! I've never seen them at all. And I have now seen every single episode.
the second part of that video obviously shows a different baby than the one ealier in the video. the first baby has straight blonde hair, the second baby has brown curly hair. anyone else notice this?
I do not know how these actresses and actors do this type of scene with out REAL feelings and engagement in the lives they portray. Let me guess they were both married to some one else????
sun flower During the filming of Mad About You, Helen Hunt was married to Hank Azaria “Nat the dog walker” of Murray (real name, Maui). Actors do develop real feelings & sometimes it poses real life issues & sometimes it leads to great things. At the least, they remain “family” after going through so much together.
Very good question. They are actors...but how can anyone compartmentalize emotions over such a long series, such as this one? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They have remained close friends to this day and I've read that they go out together for a meal at least once a month.
Even decades later, when I see this closing scene, my tears still can't help from escaping from my eyes.
Same!
Agree 4-24-23
Still crying 20 years later. Just loved this montage SO much. Perfect song.
Beautiful.

I wish it would be on constant rotation on late night TV like Friends is. This show is timeless & funny & definitely underrated in syndication
this finale is actually so good and unique and i LOVE the final montage
How could you not? SO beautiful & touching! Makes you feel like you're a friend of Paul & Jamie's ❤
I literally had tears welling up with this one... so beautifully done
I cry when I see this. Thank you for posting. Miss this show
Such a wonderful, underrated tv show :')
Thought about this song for years...thanks for posting it...gets me every time!
I swear if I ever meet Helen Hunt, I'm telling her how brilliant this montage was. Cause not only did she direct it, she wrote the series finale!
She directed it. Herself, Paul Reiser and Victor Levin wrote it. Sheila Amos was the editor of the episode. Bobby Byrne was the director of photography.
(edit: yeah, ten years later lol)
@@redacted2275 I'm still here getting notifications haha 😆

This is my absolute favourite ending to any television show, ever.
"If you ever dexide to leave me, I will find you and take you home, because you would be wrong."
The best ever finale for show. Love it! Had to come look for it .
Thanks for posting :)

Love this ending and so met the series tone.
i always cry watching this episode, it was an amazing sitcom.

I am still mad about "Mad about You"

I like how realistic this video seems.

pra quem acompanhou desde o primeiro episódio... como não chorar??
I remember this
I watch this and man I don't even see a TV show. It legit looks like unscripted footage from people's home videos.
Tem uns DVDs com temporadas completas e outros com melhores episódios no site da Amazon. Dá uma olhada lá! Se encontrar em outro lugar, me avisa, ok?!
mad about you kicks ass!!!!
mad about you é muito bom!!!!
Saudade...
Muita!
Just life at it's finest expression.....
La Vi después de 10 años, que hermosa y maravillosa serie.
I love it!
And They Lived Happily Ever After :-)
Best tv couple.
Great ending. Nice to glimpse the characters over a long span of normal things rather than some of these cheesy "Now its five years later" bits
Great sitcom !

Estou louca atraz de um vidio da Faith Hill em uma fazenda e um poço de petrolio eu vi na MTV..
alguen se lembra ?
the second part of that video obviously shows a different baby than the one ealier in the video. the first baby has straight blonde hair, the second baby has brown curly hair. anyone else notice this?
ohhh...
thanx!
gentem... eu gostava tanto de louco por você... falo nada.... gostaria muito de ter os episodios, mas não sei onde baixar ou comprar...
Like the song but couldn't get into the show...liked how the dog saw the baby moving n ran to save her
my favorite part came at the end when grown up Mabel said as you Ursala (Phoebe's sister) became governor of New York
Does anyone know if they sell more than the first three seasons on dvd anywhere?
It's on Starz
@miguelangdl YES, You have true.Life sucks...

But he came back to her, they didn't split up forever.
I do not know how these actresses and actors do this type of scene with out REAL feelings and engagement in the lives they portray. Let me guess they were both married to some one else????

I mean, I hope you're joking
I remember how disappointed I was about how the show ended with this montage.
trash...bad sitcom
