- Welcome to West Gordon Parish Church of Scotland (Alford, Strathdon, Rhynie)
Our service for Christ the King Sunday, 24th November 2024, was led by Rev Alison Swindells from Alford Church. The Feast of Christ the King was introduced in 1925 by Pope Pius 11th in the dark days between the world wars and amidst the rising tide of fascism.
Pope Pius felt that it was time to call on Christian people everywhere to declare their allegiance to the rule not of men but of Christ. So, the feast day of Christ the King was born. Let us join our hearts and minds together to worship Jesus Christ, the King of our hearts.
The readings from the Bible were - Psalm 100, Jeremiah 23: 1 - 6 and Luke 23: 33 - 43
The Hymns used in the service were -
‘Rejoice! The Lord is King’ (CH4 449)
‘Make Way, Make Way’ (CH4 279)
‘When I Survey the Wondrous Cross’ (CH4 392)
‘Jesus Christ is Waiting’ (CH4 360)
‘Crown Him with Many Crowns (CH4 459)
Many thanks to Linda for playing for us, to Roddy for reading, and to Margaret for helping with the service. Thanks also to Paul, Mike and Sue for operating all the technical equipment and recording the service for us.
All the words of the Hymns, the Lord’s Prayer and Responses come up on the screen, so please feel free to join in at home.
God bless,
Simon.
