    Sometimes, very occasionally, I forget how dark the history of each city-state truly can be. Thank you for that reminder, that we might reflect on these errors in the hopes of avoiding them in future.

    So weird that we (as players) found out about Ul'dah's action against Sil'dih during the Hildibrant quest line. One of the darkest acts in the game told in one of the games most light-hearted story arcs.

      Right? I felt I needed to make this video just to remind people that it wasn't a joke, that these things did in fact happen. lmao

      @@SynodicScribe So...with that knowledge, why did we not acknowledge that there WERE survivors from Sil'dih, albeit very very very few?

    • @SynodicScribe

      @@josephgregorowicz5135 Cause that knowledge was smothered along with everything else. Plus the survivors didn't want people knowing they lived out of fear of Ul'dah silencing them.

    As someone who considers their in game home to be Ul'dah, thank you for consolidating information like this! I already knew about the traders spurn, that Little Ladies Day was connected in their history in some way, and that the line of Ul was not always there. It was shocking to learn that Thorne was a Hyur too. Excellent lecture :)

    Thank you for the heads up about the echo.
    I think it is something that people glance over.
    But having a door open to hearing or seeing the past what expose you to terrible horror.
    It's a wonder that people with echo aren't driven absolutely insane or treated as such by their neighbors.

    So, I’m going to record my thoughts here. The first thought was “Oh wow I had no idea that Aethericyte crytal network had such a history and danger.” My character might be a little more hesitant about using them. I don’t always use them because sometimes I do prefer to run and admire the scenery.
    But I admit that I knew the horrific fate of Sil’Dah at the hands of the undead plague. But I didn’t know that the location of Ul’dah was built on that site. And I freely admit that history plays a part in why Ul’dah is my least favourite city or city-state in FF14 that I’ve been to so far. But there are other reasons such asthat I don’t like the Syndicate having the real authority. If a group of citizens are to rule then it needs to be a fair sampling of the population. Rich, poor, noble, commoner, merchant or people from all the castes, and racially balanced. Lalafell, Hyur and every race that has a decent population in Ul’dah by percentage. I don’t like the obsession of money and tying it into a measure of someone’s worth. Oh and how I hate the corruption that permeates it at every level. All that being said it’s still an interesting place.
    Limsa Lominsa is my favourite but with Gridania not far behind. Since I’m only lvl 66 Smn, Sch and Whm in the early stage of Stormblood I can’t yet judge places like Doma or Ala Mhigo.
    But judging from what I’ve heard about other places I seriously doubt that I’d like Sharlaya

    • @mikoto7693
      @mikoto7693 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Continued…
      Much at all. I can see how that might be a bit ironic since the Scions are Sharlayan, but they’re of a much different breed that chose to stay in Eorzea. But the actual Old Sharlaya seems, is very reclusive, spoilt and selfish nation. They seem to really think that they are vastly superior to anyone and they hoard knowledge and wisdom and they collect and don’t share it.

    • @Skijaramaz
      @Skijaramaz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@mikoto7693 Without going into spoilers, Sharlayan does have an assortment of reasons for their positions. What those reasons are, I will let you discover through playtime.

      Many of the things that you depise Ul'Dah for, is what absolutely makes it my favorite city-state. I hate how it was established, but some of the ways people learned, whistleblew, and atoned for past mistakes have been phenomenal for an entire nation to be doing at once, and I love that. The skeletons this nation harbors are literally walking around instead of locked in a closet for people to never find out even if they wanted to. In that manner, I feel like as despicable and unforgivable the nation had been, they try to be honest about it and DO better. The fact that a Thorne *descendant* relinquished power back to a once hated crown family at the behest of their ancestor's word is INCREDIBLE to me. There is no way to know if a descendant will follow dying wishes, and when power is involved, they often don't. But this? Mind blowing for me. I also have an affinity for Ul'Dah as it reflects almost everything I go through in my day to day city living in real life. Capitalism? Check. Slavery? Internship. Loan sharks? Payday Loans. Genocide no one talks about? Absolutely. Racism? Lol, not even a question. But despite all the grime and gunk, you find people in life like the Thornes, Raubahn, Pippin, Rose, Momodi, Godbert, Nanamo, the carriage driver, and so many others that make the city worth living and believing in. I love this broken, dirty, messed up city-state. I hope it continues to spin sand into these people of gold. ❤
      Edit: Lala names. :3

      @@SynodicScribe no kidding. The pirates murdered *hundreds of baby sahagin*, and that was just one day's work. But what was done to Sil'dih must definitely take the cake for atrocities, as far as the 6th eras go... Unless there's some even more heinous shit going on with Gridania and Ala Mihgo. I don't know of anything that quite reaches this level and scale of horror in a single conscious act. I mean how do you beat "extinguishing an entire civilization in a single night of horror by turning their own dead family members into monsters leaving a plague of undeath that taints the land hundreds of years later"?

    Oof, that is so dark. My starting City was Ul'Dah, but I never took much of a shine to it and joined the Maelstrom and consider Limsa Lominsa my home. I know Limsa has it's own shadows, but I'd rather indulge my rogue's heart there than a city built on genocide.

    Your explanation of the origins of the Arbiters of Truth seems to run counter to the role they're shown to play in the final set of ARR Hildibrand quests, where it seems they've dedicated themselves to hiding the truth of Sil'dih and the Traders Spurn and reestablishing Sasagan's propaganda as the common understanding of events. Is it known when this change in the group's goal happened, perhaps something you'll cover in part 2?

    • @SynodicScribe
      @SynodicScribe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That'll be covered in part 2. Honestly, the stunt that the Hildibrand quest pulled regarding the Arbiters created a couple continuity errors I'm gonna have to dance around. So please bare with me. lmao

    • @Andyjoe522
      @Andyjoe522 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SynodicScribe I'd be interested in hearing where else these continuity errors stem from. The only places I've come across mentions of Sil'dih in my time playing the game as far as I can recall right now have been from Hildibrand as previously mentioned, and prior to that from Erik in the MNK quest line when asking him about the topic has him convey the false version of events, implying that the common belief in modern Eorzea is indeed in line with the Sultan's propaganda and that this wouldn't be some oddity with just the Hildibrand story. I'm really looking forward to what you have to say on the topic in part 2!

    • @SynodicScribe
      @SynodicScribe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Andyjoe522 Long story short. People accepted the Dynasty of Thorne because of what happened with Sil'dih, but over the hundreds of years after the fact, the false news that Sasagan created was accepted as the truth. This was due to the fact that Baldurf wanted knowledge of Trader's Spur on a need to know basis only, and the common folk didn't need to know, hence why no one can remember it. But this is also why he created the Arbiters, since he knew that the truth might get erased given time. Technically he was right and that did happen, but the Arbiters were only meant to be knowledge keepers, not judges. Making Cecy's actions extreme and dangerous in the hildbrand quest. And that's all I'll say on that until part 2.
