    my guppy is giving birth right now and let me tell u the struggle of finding these tiny fry in between gravel 😐 never again lol but I'm excited to see them grow into their colors

      Lool same I spent ages trying to net them out it’s so hard to see them in the gravel. They’re so clever as well as soon as they came out they went and hid straight away and were staying still on the plants for ages playing dead

    There are few options available for the aquarium hobbyists in our area. I found some probiotic flake food in the clearance bin that was crushed into oblivion. Works for my guppy fry till we can get something shipped in. I also tried rice flake baby cereal when they got tired of the flakes. I ordered some algae tablets to try out. The biggest fry was in the HOB breeder box but he jumped into the main tank to mingle with the adults. We call him Ninja because he's fearless and skilled at evasion.

      I live in the Pacific northwest. They built a tiny Petco in our town, just enough to put the local pet and fish stores out of business, here, and the ones the next town over. Most areas are farms, orchards and forest, unless you are able to drive 2 and a half hours to a real city, online shopping is the best option.

    Good video for any fry Michael - I'm growing out several dozen swordtails.
    I can't hatch enough baby brine shrimp so I augment with frozen baby brine - fry get spoiled. I also crush flake food, preferring Omega One which I also use for adults. I recently introduced some NLS Optimum which the fish seem to love.
    Tip: For faster, better growth, I feed fry roughly every two hours.

  • @DGrey
    @DGrey 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can't believe you gave away all of the secrets!!! I also mix up some decaps bbs eggs and the finest size of golden pearls and feed that to the fry and adults when the brine shrimp hatchout for that day is garbagey, which is a technical term.

    Good information! I run both sponges and HOBs with pre-intake filters. We have short power outages a lot in this area, and my Fluvals usually don't reboot. This way I'm covered. My fry BNPs use their two sponge filters like cafeteria lunch lines, always looking and nibbling. Thanks Mike for this video!

  • @victorb145
    @victorb145 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have an undersized HOB on my breeding tank. It does have a sponge on the intake but I'm finding the fry avoid the whole thing cuz they can't handle the Overflow to get to it to begin with.
    I could raise the waterline which might allow the fry to get to the sponge. But then I would have to adjust the two breeding cages in the tank. I think I will just leave it alone the system's not broke so why fix it?

  • @rondaphelps3937

    • @MichaelsFishRoom

      I raise fry in a 10 or 20. You can put them in a tank, say a 20 because that will be there eventual home, but only fill it half way so they have an easier time finding food.

There are two bristle noise Pecos and 4 mollies and a black neon tetra. There is a sponge filter on the 10 and a hob on the 29. Tanks been up for 3 months and planted. I find that even when I separate my guppy fry out away from the adults, lots of them die. Not immediately but within a few weeks. Tails eventually narrow to points and they are dead shortly afterwards.

      Sounds like either poor water quality or lack of nutrients in the water.

    I would not worry so much about what is in the fish's natural environment so long as they food doesn't hurt them-- brine shrimp after all is not in the natural environment of most (any?) fish and it is one of the best foods around.

    Help!!! I have two pregnant guppies, one is ahead because it's tummy is much bigger. But upon observing my tank today, I noticed ONE fry swimming at the top of the tank. I was scared that the other fishes will eat it so I separated it. I don't have a separate tank so I just placed it in a small container for now.
