In Fairy Dance he directly says that he learned throughout his time in Aincrad that personal aren't farces, but the actual characters of these people. Like it's an actual monologue, spoken dialogue In Phantom Bullet he overcomes his trauma of killing others and forgetting two of his victims. He accepts the fact that he needed to do that to live and protect others. Once again, there's a conversation in the show that draws direct attention to this, Kirito's conversation with nurse Aki just before his second dive. His conversation with Sinon during their match too, but to a lesser extent. In Alicization Kirito both moves past his imposter syndrome and his survivor's guilt. Throughout Human Empire, he accepts his persona as the Black Swordsman, and War of Underworld is him accepting that the deaths of the Moonlit Blackcats and Eugeo aren't his fault. He even asks the memory of Eugeo if it's ok for him to move on SAO isn't a series about "character weak but he's strong now", its character arcs actually deal with the characters' psychology and mental state, the core of their persons. It's not a typical Shonen, shit it's not a Shonen at all but a Seinen. It deals with a lot of psychology concepts like the inner self, what it means to be alive, how memories snd experiences shape who we are, and self acceptance. A large majority of its themes about inner strength, that's why a lot of characters refer to their "strength" in regards to their confidence and mentality.
