i have over 1000 plants that i have planted onour rural property in south Auckland new zealnd I love camellias so much , been busy planting all our paddocks with camellia hedges is my goal I love the flowers so much
Great advice, thanks. I live in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand where the climate is very similar to Melbourne. I’ve just purchased about six different camellias (two of each) and am about to plant them. So this video was very helpful.
Oh me too - just started watching another video. Got 5 and a half minutes in and all I had heard was a lot of names of products and their properties and then told BUT DON'T USE THEM. Why mention them then?????? There was another 20 minutes left on the video - but I just left after telling the yter why. I didn't give thumbs down just left constructive criticism. This was short, sweet and straight to the point. My kinda video. No one has time to be wasting.
Thank you. I have been looking for a comprehensive tutorial on theses beautiful shrubs. I am in zone 7b on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. We enjoy the camellias and azaleas in this area.
I liked your video so much, you are so clear in your explanation . Thank you. Watched your video for the first time, since I was searching for information as to how to grow camellia's.
I like this variety of camellias. Good to see them all at once when you are thinking what camellia is most suitable for a spot in your garden. Thank you for this video.
Very informative and practical video. But the producer of video should consider that background music should not compete with the speaker's voice. Some speakers have local accents that are not commonly heard in the United States of A. Enjoyable though to see the many varieties. 😊
Thank you for an informative video... Living in Melbourne.. could you please let me know why do I get perfect green leaves dropping these days... I don't think it's from excess water... please shed some light...
I have 2 of the camelia japonica in pink. They are huge, have been here in my house for more than 20 years . Very low maintenance plant. Any tips on propagating from cuttings??
I have No idea. Mine says hybrid playtime , then on back says lollipop. Not sure how to care for it as I have no idea. I'm in a cooler area of nsw, well in winter. In summer I get mostly shade, about 2 to 3 hours of sun. As I dont know, or can't find that hybrid, I dont know how big it will be or if I can leave in pot etc ???
Hello, how do they do in larger pots. I cannot plant on soil. It needs to cover an area with Lattice and the plant is to be a feature behind the lattice. So I need to know that I can put them there and remain there in pots. Thank you Nance.
I live in Egypt, can I fertilize the plant in the month of 9 and 10, and I do not have a fertilizer for acid-loving plants, can I fertilize it with a balanced NBK fertilizer with amino acids and sea algae added to it?
Hello and thank you for the info on Japonica and Sasanguas. I didn't know much about the types until a Horticulturalist in a garden centre said that for the area I have, the Sasanguas are great. However, happy to learn more and thank you once again. I would like to cover fence from my neighbour, by using the Japonica plant. I have the fence and 0.600 m requisition from council, I have now a pergola with lattice. MY QUESTION: will this area of 3 m do well if I was to purchase the Japonica, it is a semi shade area. The sun comes out early morning until 11 am and then it goes away. It has good lighting but not too much sun. Please help before I spend again so much money, as I am re-vamping my garden with beauty. Nance
You’re gonna want to look for Ackerman hybrids, April series is tough and hardy. If leaves turn brown after a tough winter, just be patient and wait for it to regrow. Watering that following summer to re-establish is imperative. Don’t fertilize after early summer, or that late season tender growth will suffer in fall. I recommend Holly-Tone.
I feel like setsugekka (however you spell it) is only popular because most nurseries stock it. It's too common. Another white sasanqua that is more beautiful is Early Pearly! It makes satsugekka look like a fried egg! 😂
Hi. I have 5 big japonica on my garden. Yuo don't believe But thei are 130 years old. Every winter and spring their flower, like now they have flower now. First the White and second, thirth... Pink, red, mist White and Red.....
Please tell me why I keep killing my Camelias. They grew very well for two years, then the leaves started turning brown and then the whole plant dried up. Did I over water or over feed them???
Beautiful music? Are your 2 plants of Camellia also Tea Plants? how do we know which Camellia plant is safe to make tea from.?Please advice. Ps. reply by email, it only way i receive reply.Thank you.
What species, specifically? Regardless, they are ericaceous i.e in Ordo 'Ericales' and needs an acidic soil. C. japonica is not a variety as stated in the video it's a species. Varietas is lower taxonomic rank than species.
understood..mine is camellia japonica...Sir would you mind to suggest some potting mix? as u r expert in that.. i am a beginner.. if u guide me lil beat ,will be gr8 help..thanks
In parts of Asia, other species [than C. sinensis] are used as a beverage, including C. taliensis, C. grandibractiata, C. kwangsiensis, C. gymnogyna, C. crassicolumna, C. tachangensis, C. ptilophylla, and C. irrawadiensis
La camelia purpura (purpure) es rara de origen PORTUGUÉS y su nombre es DOÑA HERZILIA DE FREITAS MAGALLANES o sea MADAME HERZILIA. Espero que algún día vea esta variedad de camelia aquí en México. Saludos
Your mention of mushroom compost being alkaline is an eye-opener for me. I never knew. Thanks!

Is cameillas perennials? I would love to plant mine outside
Yes. They are outdoor plants. Find a partial shade spot.

Tea is from Camellia sinensis.
can i grow camellia in pot using cocopeat, sand & peat moss,if yes what should be the proportion of mixture?

Camellia sinensis. I tried C. japonica but it was rank - tasted of hedge clippings.
Hahaha

@@FrankEdavidson lol you were brave. I didn't even know the other varieties were ok for brewing 😂
How nice of you to show products that would be impossible to find outside of your specific area.
The title is misleading. It should be Varieties of Camellias. There is little to no info how to grow or care for Camellias.
Sorry to waste your time. Do you know how I do that?
@@thegardenshow Dumb reply from the poster of the dumbest title ever.
