The golden age of Taufik 1997-2006
When his age 17 yo, Taufik has participated in an international tournament and was able to win it. He was nicknamed "Magic Boy" during his debut.
Taufik's rivals at that time is Chen Jin (China), Bao Cun Lai (China), Hendrawan (Indonesia), Hasyim (Malaysia)
1997-2007 BWF tournaments are still very rare. Taufik is a player who is lazy to practice, and in the midst of the poor management of Indonesian badminton at that time he still continues to provide achievements.

1997-2002 Taufik is already in the top 1 of the BWF while Lin Dan is still outside the top 10 of the BWF
1997-2002 Taufik has won many tournaments. (Lin Dan, Lee CW, Peter Gade at that time were still Rising Stars while Taufik had become Big Stars)
1998 Taufik at his age 17 yo has won the Grand Prix (at that time the highest tournament was equivalent to a super 1000)

2 Legend..., if u ve played badminton for long time, u can see Taufik is just like a pieces of art in Badminton, his movement extremely relax and lovely, effortless badminton playe describe his personal character, about his appearance style with that ""you can see"" Tshirt also later and now become favorite all player including Lin Dan. He fail in All England but he is the youngest runner up ever in All England in 1999 and 2000, when he was only 17 years old, he is talented and controversy out side the court, he had problems with PBSI (Indonesia Badminton Association) with his GFs.... and many. He seem more fit with old style scoring, which is a bit ""negotiable"" for his type of personality.
Lin Dan, LCW and Chen Long are typically Chinese player who really work hard in practicing to be perfect and run all over the court chasing the shuttle, they look like text book player, practicing thousands and millions time movement of shuttle cock, hand, leg, and body. Of course with their own talent aslo.
U can see as an athlete Taufik is a bit lazy than the others, no doubt as personal character for example look at his cheek...., a bit chubby compare to LD, LCW, PG or CL...., and else.

Melihat pertandingan final ini amat menyakitkan bagi Indonesia masa itu, ktika ekspektasi bgitu besar memboyong kmbali piala Thomas ke tanah air, ina justru dibantai 3-0 oleh china, karena bgitu superioritas china dikala itu, tapi alhamdulillah harii ini 19 Oktober 2021, final Thomas cup, Indonesia vs china 3-0, skor telak tanpa balas, dibayar kontan hari ini,, dgn skor yg sama 3-0, skor yg sama sakitnya 11 tahun yg lalu.., congrats Indonesia, for winner Thomas Cup 2021....👏

Clearly you didnt see the match between Taufik and Lin D in 2006 World Champ game. With time even great players looses to lousier players. So Lin Dan isnt the best ever but he is definitely a top player but wont say best EVER!!!

I think we can say Lin dan est the best ever. Why? simply because he has won everything the badminton world has to offer, in men single of course. Does Taufik has won all there's to win? of course, but Lin just won more. Two times olympic no one has achieve that. no other will I think. I dont know the future but I don't think someone will. Will he able to win another olympic, I don't think so. He has lost his aura of invinsibility. So no gold for him.
Jyotirmoy RoyChowdhury I watched that match but at that time, LD's attack and defense was no where near his peak and the standard of that game isnt higher. Also, Hidayat is only 2 years older than LD which doesnt make a lot of different where they both played each other many time during their peak and it was still LD who won more games than Hidayat which shows his superiority. Any player can lose but with what he achieved, he is the best player of all time. There will be a better player in the future but for now he is the best player in history.

Year 2010-upward, T.Hidayat has been out of form already, not technically but physically stamina. During the era, it is said that he continued playing because he wanted to show it to his children only, which means no more competitive games.

I am not sure what happened to Taufik in his later years of badminton. Probably injuries taking their toll on body and mind. I think his game became linier thus easy to read for players in international. But man, I agree no one could compete with that backhand of his.

Lin Dan in his prime was an absolute monster - the badminton equivalent of Novak Djokovic. Taufik is generally regarded as one of the greatest of all time: in the top 5. But Lin Dan showed that he's slightly better in every category, and just destroyed him in the 1st set. Good to see that Taufik delivered a respectable performance in the 2nd set.
