I had 3 bikes (2 ebikes and a hardtail mtb) stolen from my garage last week, all insured individually through my home insurance. I had photos of the bikes and video of the thieves, police weren't interested just gave me a crime number for the insurance company.
My friend had 2 bikes stolen from the Garage. He saw them advertised on GumTree, the Police weren't interested as it was a 'Rough Estate' . He had to beg on his knees, it wasn't until his uncle, who was a copper in an ajoining set of cops made a few calls that they went in to get them. So the main excuse was 'proof of ownership' - think about it and make sure you can prove you own it. Even then there wasn't a big motivation from the cops to charge the "Scally Wags" who were known to the cops.
I've had 3 bikes stolen and 2 replaced on home and contents insurance. 2 were later recovered by Police thanks to BikeLinc (Australian version of bike register) - on one occasion it was because a bike shop checked the serial number of a bike being sold to them which led to the thief being arrested. Register your bikes people, it works!
If you are buying a recent high end used bike and you don't ask to see the sales receipts, warranty paperwork and instruction manuals, you might be part of the problem. The one I don't get is e-bikes. You need the model specific charger and the key (depending on the bike) to move it on. I'm also surprised that high end bikes don't come with a "Passport" like things like Rolex do. Literally a bit of security paper with the frame number on (obviously you can get more high tech with apps and nfc if you want). If you don't have the card, you can't prove it's your bike. Recently I wanted to get a cheap Brompton and couldn't bring myself to buy used because it seemed too likely I'd be buying a stolen bike.
The problem with air tags is that if the thieves have an iphone, after 30 minutes, the air tag sends a message to the phone saying their is an unregistered air tag nearby.
Exactly my thoughts but Apple needed to do this as air tags were being used to steal cars etc so it’s a bit pointless! What bikes really need is a proper built in GPS but ultimately much much harsher punishments are needed so the risk isn’t worth the reward etc

We had our bikes stolen here in a quiet neighbourhood in BC. Our bad for leaving them on the car rack, but the bikes were locked to the rack with 3 locks and the rack was locked to the car. Annoying to say the least, in fact that's putting it mildly. My bikes were insured only in the house. Got back from morzine last summer, stripped the back end of my capra to change the hearings. Left all the rear end parts laid out neat in the garage only to be stolen, chain stay, seat stay, shock, transmission rear mech and most of my tools gone. I now have specialist bike insurance.
I have a shed shackle wall anchor 2 more wall anchors and a floor anchors, chained up eith 4 thick motorbike chains and an extra wire to secure my bike. My shed is strengthened and a security bar on the door with 2 more lock and hasps. My windows has a wire grate iver it and sectioned with wood. Plus a shed alarm. Still worried about it being stolen. Register your bike everywhere you can there are a few places to do this online. Keep your whips safe dudes😊
I'd never leave my bikes unattended either in or on a car / van. I've had bike stolen in the past & despite finding names & addresses of the scum bags the police didn't want to know. Any shed or garage isn't a secure place for bikes either.
I'd forgotten all about that guy, didn't notice he'd gone. I saw Adam Walda on a Rob rides emtb podcast. I'm guessing losing sponsors has meant they needed to trim wages.
Myself ,I think it all comes down to a lack of punishment in the courts, its no wonder the police can't be bothered. A few years back Iwatched an English documentary about these crimes. There was a bike thief who specialized in stealing bikes at suburban railway stations. They knew who it was and he had been evading the police for 6 months. They said he had stolen bikes worth at least 5/6,000 pounds total. The police found out where he would be and they had a flying squad of 8/9 police burst into the house which he was in in the middle of the night and got him in bed with his girlfriend . All that manpower and the searching which all costs taxpayers money, the costs involved in the courts and the magistrate or judgeI can't remember which, and the lost money of the victims whose bikes were stolen, which they had paid for , and all he got 6 months suspended sentence. It's the same here with the law courts They treat it as a misdemeanor. Same as with the stolen cars. I am from London originally but ended up in a small town they like to call a city, Townsville . Stolen cars capital of Australia
No. I think it starts with the collapse of moral standards. Broke and homeless people here clean up the litter and hand it to the recycle center for a small reward. Like a pound. They don't steal or rob. It's a moral issue.
My son had two lads try to stop him by jumping Infront of him. He kicked out and cycled off. I reported it to the police and they emailed me back a week later no interest at all.
Is so bad in the Pacific Northwest of America. It's the top meth head hobby. I'm still looking for the bike that got stolen from me 5 years ago. And it wasn't that high end of a bike but I put all the components that I like on myself. I'm almost afraid I'm going to see it again and just robbed the guy for the bike and it probably went through 10 hands already.

Just for correctness, you do realiase that a Beagle is classified as a hound, so "Hounds and Beagles" doesn't really make much sense as a title for a part of the show.... I do love seeing the dogs, Beagles and non-Beagles.
I honestly don’t understand the point in using air tags! Air tags notify any iPhone where an air tag is following you that an air tag is following…. So if the person who stole your bike has an iPhone they will know the bike has an air tag within 10 minutes… so what’s the point?
The guys in the Sickest Thing part took the Mountain in Mountain Biking waaaay too serious , Mountain is more of a suggestion of the bike's capabilities to be ridden in Mountainous regions not literally down the side of a Mountain 😮
I am guessing the stolen specialty bikes are going to be taken apart and the parts sold. If you make a claim on home insurance buckle up for even higher rates. It all sucks.
The bottom line is that thieves will only steal something if it's worth it to them and they can move it on easily. The bike industry has created this problem by making bikes / e-bikes desirable items worth making the effort to steal. Bikes are massively overpriced for what they are. Who, in their right mind spends upwards of £8k on a bike and doesn't expect someone to want to nick it from them. I know someone who owns a 'boutique' bike that they bought for a fortune and are now too scared to go out and ride it for fear of it being pinched. It's just sitting their gathering dust. What's the point in that? So if the bike manufacturers decided to make bikes that are more affordable, realistically and reasonably priced, then there would be less of a market to steal them. Haarumph ! Can someone get me some steps to get down of this high horse please 🤣
Do not put your bike on your house insurance. You will regret how your premiums go up after one claim. Get a separate bike insurance. And register your bike, it is free.
#captioncontest pov: you forgot about your prd, so now you have to do your pfc For those who are unfamiliar with Mtb acronyms, prd: pre-ride dump. Pfc: post-flatulence check
Also avoid transporting bikes on the outside of the car if possible... its like inviting criminals to follow you home. Same with Strava and social media... don't help criminals find out what bikes you have and where to find them.

Bosch has that register on their system upload the documents and photos of your bike to the app!
Gold standard locks only will cover your insurance make sure you have atleast 1 gold level lock! Your insurance company will keep you right there alot of bikers now in the company who know everything the guy we got was fantastic!
No simply the tools have got better and I mean the electrical tools not the thevies. Locks haven't changed but the game and tools have.
Doh! A rare dropped catch by Rich at silly mid on in the shed and that has given the Aussies victory at the Ashes. 😜👍 Just kidding Rich, we know you still got the safest set of hands at GMBN.
12:39 to 12:42 Would a helmet and body armor even save you in case of a crash because my guess is NOT AT ALL
Caption contest: “I told you a hardtail would not allow us to crack on!”
I have to agree with Martyn on the DH World Cup , I too was not impressed with it , to me the DH World Cup is the MOTO GP of the MTB World sure it's not bad and has it's cool moments but Freeride videos like that one is the Isle of Man TT of the MTB World you simply cannot go back once you saw such a ride , a compilation of the best moments at Fort William cannot be compared to that video
I saw the atherton race team at my local bowling
Annoying to say the least, in fact that's putting it mildly. My bikes were insured only in the house. Got back from morzine last summer, stripped the back end of my capra to change the hearings. Left all the rear end parts laid out neat in the garage only to be stolen, chain stay, seat stay, shock, transmission rear mech and most of my tools gone. I now have specialist bike insurance.
I believe they meant ollie from gcn lol 27:54
#captioncontest - Checking for airholes before the trail is always a necessity!
I googled how many bikes per year gets stolen in my country ( The Netherlands)..and o boy, what a shocking number; 500.000 per year.
Caption for Blake: oh, I get on the bike... now that makes sense.
I have Blake's old bike insured by a specialist bicyle insurance company. Which you can add racing and international travel to.
I'd never leave my bikes unattended either in or on a car / van. I've had bike stolen in the past & despite finding names & addresses of the scum bags the police didn't want to know. Any shed or garage isn't a secure place for bikes either.
#captioncontest Shall we hit the jump up ahead? Nah - I definitely felt the wind increasing.
Gutted for the frameworks team. However I keep my bikes in the lounge and don't leave them unattended when out, so they haven't been stolen.
Insurance:
If you have a bike over £5k you need to class 10 lock to have your insurance valid.
I still dont know why Isaac left gmbn. Does somebody know?
Did he leave, or is he still there editing behind the scenes?🤷♂️
Your so right .I had my Scott Ransom stolen last october.it was all upgraded over 4000.00 in it still looking for .one of a kind with upgrade I have evey box every serial number .
#captioncontest: "Man that trail really ate up at my rear end, I knew I forgot the shammy creme"
they wont sell the frames cuz they know. but forks, wheels and whatnot will pay enough so they can dump the rest
#captioncontest me checking my pants after a tough descent and almost dying
That is so sad .I had my scott ransom 2020 stolen out of my car .it was inside they broke the lock.
I had several bikes stolen as a kid. That paranoia lasts to this day. I keep my bike locked EVERYWHERE I go. Thieves are opportunists, don't give them an easy opportunity to walk off with your stuff!
Sorry to hear, but great that you're so on it now! That's the key, constant locking and vigilance when in public
#captioncontest - when the dropper post returns just a little too quick
The guys in the Sickest Thing part took the Mountain in Mountain Biking waaaay too serious , Mountain is more of a suggestion of the bike's capabilities to be ridden in Mountainous regions not literally down the side of a Mountain 😮
#captioncontest- Hey Rich, this is turning out to be a bootiful day!
With bikes costing more than cars, and being much easier to steal, sell or tear apart for parts, its only gonna get worse.
I am guessing the stolen specialty bikes are going to be taken apart and the parts sold. If you make a claim on home insurance buckle up for even higher rates. It all sucks.
if someone stole mine they best hope I do not catch em in the act, I carry always.
Lots of nice bikes. Really 😊
Its time to cancel the non-driveside rule... brake calipers deserve to be shown off too.
Woah controversial!!!!
@@Richard_Payne_GMBN You know its true... a set of Magura's with coloured inserts needs to be seen 😀
Even if you locate your stolen bike good luck getting it back with police help
#CAPTIONCONTEST Rich is having a cracking time!
#captioncontest pov: you forgot about your prd, so now you have to do your pfc
For those who are unfamiliar with Mtb acronyms, prd: pre-ride dump. Pfc: post-flatulence check
Also avoid transporting bikes on the outside of the car if possible... its like inviting criminals to follow you home. Same with Strava and social media... don't help criminals find out what bikes you have and where to find them.
Great point on the outside transporting. Never occurred to me.
All my bikes are at home. Last time I had them on a garage someone tried to steal them
Get them on the house insurance!
I would expect this happening in the US but never the UK.
Happens when you start bringing in criminals into the country.
Trust me you don't need to stand up on this part just chill
