Thanks so much for posting! This is how I remembered my freind, young, vibrant and full of life in each step. I'm so happy more and more people are finally getting a glimpse of his brilliance though sadly only after his untimely passing.

What I love sooo much about the FMA above all others is that you're practicing deadly real world skills, timing, flow, and having soooo much fun doing it. Other martial arts practice is sooo much hard work.

Thank you for posting! I met Maestro Sonny a couple times. He's amazing. In the brief conversations I had with him, I got so much. I incorporate some basic concepts into Capoeira.

Tuhon Sonny was one of the most fast and deadly eskrimador on his time and he was so humble that he ask his student to call him guro.. Thank you so much to he's close students who carry on and show to the fma world his legacy. Maraming, maraming salamat Po Guro Sonny. Mabubuhay Po ang young pung binigay sa aming.. Gumagalang Po.

So sad that the MAJORITY of the martial art community doesnt even know who Sonny was! You truly had to be an insider to even view him. So thankful I became familiar with Kelly or I wouldn't have gotten an opportunity to view this unsung master of the FMA

@dontcutcircles - That was not "the" pendulum drill. It was random flow using Pangamot (1st half) and Sikaran (most of the 2nd half). Pendulum is incoporated into all movements in our system. There is no VSCKE without pendulum. Consider it less a drill and more a practice. It is as important as circle walking.

@dontcutcircles - I tend to think of 'pendulum drills' as exercises using a hanging pendulum. Pendulum stepping with a partner is the basis practice that leads to random flowing, and yes this is an example of that for the Sikaran. A pendulum swings forwards and backwards - really that is all it means.

thanks for posting this, is this the pendulum drill? Guru Bernard Langan has showed the pendulum drill, and i practice it. so far what i learned is very basic, is this a higher level?

There are some folks up in Seattle too, mostly associated with Jesse Glover.

@dontcutcircles - The pendulum is incorporated into ALL movements. The pendulum is as fundamental as circle walking. It is not a drill he showed you. It is a practice. The higher levels come when you treat it as more than basic. Do it one thousand times with focus, alone and with a partner or several partners. learn to weave with your feet. - ken

    An amalgam of styles.

I'm afraid that Sonny was rather reclusive and apart from a few seminars on the West Coast and in Europe, he only taught a handful of people, who are mostly here in The San Francisco Bay Area.
