Really nice walkthrough once again. You really are an inteligent gamer, for the newbies and less experienced players, this really is the best early game build. For the people who are veterans at GoW 2018 and mastered the parry and dodge and also the timing of your attacks, forget about any other stat but strength, especially if you play in Give Me God of War difficulty. Yeah, you will die a lot to get used to the new enemies attacks, but once you have them figured out, it will feel extremely satisfying to beat them fast while not receiving any damage. That's the way to beat enemies actually, focus on not getting damage while also focusing on maximizing your attack power to kill enemies faster, since the faster you kill the enemies, the probability of you making a mistake over time is also less. If the builds give you the nice perks like Realm Shifts, extra strenght while in a XX% HP state, or something else, that's a bonus. As usual, high risk, high reward. The game itself in the shops allows you to select which builds are more focused on each stat, a really nice touch and QoL improvement that makes it so much easier to choose your build according to your playstyle. I'm currently end-game right now, but compared to how Horizon did its sequel in terms of gameplay mechanics, which IMO were very good overall, GoW was just a step ahead, while not having nearly as much "clutter" as Horizon had in terms of outfits and weapons.
Thanks Vitor! Glad you think this is a good recommendation 😄As you mentioned, I try to make recommendations that make sense for the majority of players, but I totally agree with you that if your mechanics are really good then prioritizing strength is the smart thing to do. Best way to minimize damage is to not get hit 😉
For anyone who preordered the game, I highly recommend the Darkdale set. The armour lets you heal when killing enemies in Rage and the Weapon Attachments work very well with the Awaken and Whiplash skills.
Personally, I stuck with the full Nidavellir armor set all the way to the endgame! With the gauntlets and waist, inflicted stun damage basically never goes down! Combined with the chest armor's perk to regain health on every stun grab, this makes for an excellent tank build! Add enchantments that increase your stun and melee damage at high health, along with runic attacks that deal lots of stun and pommels that take advantage of stun, and you get a seriously OP build!
Nice! Yeah that sounds like a pretty sweet build if you go all in on stun. I don’t think it would quite fit my play style personally, but I’ll have to give it a try! The reduce stub drain from the Nidavellir chest and waist pieces is definitely very nice.
Very solid guide! I remember your Forbidden West videos - which were truly outstanding. Glad to see you have some solid content for other fun games, too! I think the best piece of advice I can offer here (to players) is to try getting accustomed to BOTH the Dauntless Shield and the Stonewall Shield. They behavior of the two shields (and the play-styles they mesh with) are very different. Being able to competently switch (in the character subscreen) between the shields, depending on the type of enemy you’re fighting, is a BIG advantage for the player, in my opinion. Later in the game, some enemies have very annoying attack combos that feature repeated “yellow-ring” attacks - each with *different* delay times between the yellow-ring and the actual execution of the attack. The Stonewall Shield is great in those situations, providing forgiveness if you mistime a Parry. However, in other situations, where the enemy’s yellow-ring attack timing is more predictable and manageable, the Dauntless Shield is way better.
Hey thanks! Glad you found my Forbidden West content to be good quality 😁 And I totally agree with you on the shields in Ragnarok. It’s a very good idea to get comfortable with both the Stone Wall and Dauntless 👍
Hey thanks! Glad you like my Horizon content 😄 I’ve been missing playing Horizon (haven’t played in like a week 😮), but Ragnarok just gets better and better as I go so I’m enjoying it! More guides to come 👍

Do shield bashes always interrupt enemy attacks? I think in boss fights it sometimes doesn't. It might depend on the enemy power level compared to yours.
Good question! Yeah it’s somewhat inconsistent. I think if you get a perfect parry (shield is glowing red) you can interrupt almost anything if you time it just right, but the timing is very tight on a lot of attacks, especially red ring ones. With those I guess you’re not really interrupting it, you just stopping it before it starts. But yes, in general I think there are some attacks that’s are impossible/extremely difficult to interrupt with the shield bash.

Good question! I actually don’t think the Risen or Darkdale stuff is particularly good (I have both). The Risen is kind of interesting, but I’d still go for the Nidavellir chest plate for sure. The darkdale chest and waist perk is pretty specific, so I don’t think it’s that useful. The Risen one gives you increased stun on airborne enemies, so if you’re good at/like to juggle enemies a lot then that can be kind of nice to combo with the Nidavellir chest piece.
Unfortunately, you can't get back to the pit mine where the Undying Spark Pommels are until you complete the Forging Destiny main quest I believe. If you haven't done that yet, you might want to pick up the Hardened War Handles as a holdover until you can go back. You can find those in Alfheim. I discuss them a bit more in my mid-game build video.
You may be able to walk back out the main entrance if you haven't got too far into the mine, but if you're past a certain point you won't be able to get back to that area for a while, in which case, you might want to pick up the Hardened War Handles in Alfheim (see my mid-game build video). I beleive you need to get to the Forging Destiny main quest before you can return to get the Undying Spark Pommels, which is about halfway through the main story and much later than your first time heading into the mine.
Yeah it’s kinda interesting the default gear has pretty solid stats when it’s level 9. Not sure it makes for a good build though. Kind of just good all around, but not particularly good at any one thing.
Hey arktix, dou you think that this tips are ithe best one for (spoiler alert): Iron florest? I mean o dind spent anything upgrading gear… wondering if i should wait for the next video
I think he's pretty much already explained just about every mechanic in FORBIDDEN WEST in great detail! All that's left to do now is to wait for the inevitable DLC!
I don't think the Darkdale stuff is that great, but you could through it on instead of the default stuff or use it instead of the Fortified if you wanted.

@@ArktixOfficial I subscribed bc of your quick response and detailed video. Thanks again.
Hey thanks! I appreciate your sub 😄🙏
So i went into the mine without knowing is there anyway to get back out?
You may be able to walk back out the main entrance if you haven't got too far into the mine, but if you're past a certain point you won't be able to get back to that area for a while, in which case, you might want to pick up the Hardened War Handles in Alfheim (see my mid-game build video). I beleive you need to get to the Forging Destiny main quest before you can return to get the Undying Spark Pommels, which is about halfway through the main story and much later than your first time heading into the mine.
Survival gear has the best stats once upgraded though....
Those small enemies are so annoying
Yeah it’s kinda interesting the default gear has pretty solid stats when it’s level 9. Not sure it makes for a good build though. Kind of just good all around, but not particularly good at any one thing.
@@ArktixOfficial there is an enchantment that gives a bonus base on defense,, that alone changes everything
Yes! I've been using that one actually. It's pretty nice!
@@ArktixOfficial which enchantments are you using
Hey arktix, dou you think that this tips are ithe best one for (spoiler alert):
Iron florest? I mean o dind spent anything upgrading gear… wondering if i should wait for the next video
Yeah you're totally fine to use this build through that part. I used it until I got most of the way through Vanaheim (the first time)
Yo where is mid game build?
Coming up next! 👍
Boy!
😁
Im too thick to understand any of this
Betray from HFW broh
I think he's pretty much already explained just about every mechanic in FORBIDDEN WEST in great detail!
All that's left to do now is to wait for the inevitable DLC!
Lol nah. Things are just slow with HFW right now. Don’t worry, I’ll be back to it 🙂 I’ve even got some Horizon vids in the works right now.
Where would the Darkdale armor set fit into this guide?
I don't think the Darkdale stuff is that great, but you could through it on instead of the default stuff or use it instead of the Fortified if you wanted.
