    i actualy have the exact engine in your video :) ..never new it was SDJR blue tho I always fort it to be Caledonian railway dark blue

      Funny you should mention that. I originally bought the SDJR blue coaches to go with my Caledonian Single R.553 after seeing John ( Johns Amazing Trains - chambs123 ) running his Caledonian Single with them in a video some time ago. However, they always look too dark with the locomotive. The Caledonian Single I have is an early 60s matte version and very light coloured blue, I think the later gloss version available in the early 70s is darker in appearance and will look great with these coaches.Thanks for watching.Oscar

    Another excellent video Oscar. Truly a Colonel Stephens type set! Just a brake van and that would complete the typical good Colonel’s style of train. I’ve got a feeling the coach chassis is that of the NE brake van?

      Thanks Andrew, glad you enjoyed the video, I'm just off to dig out a brake van to compare.

      A terrific catalogue that year, Especially the cover. That was was the must-have set at the time and an ultra modern-looking passenger train set with the directional lights. Must have been a great time getting that set out of the box.
      Thanks again.

    Great video again Oscar. The carriages featured in an episode of George and Mildred (when George swaps a motorbike tyre for the neighbours train set!). Keep up the good work

      Thanks Stephen, I remember the George and Mildred television series from childhood and haven't seen one of the shows for years. I've just looked up info on the series, apparently, it ran from 1976-79 perfect timing for these models.

    Fantastic looking little loco!

  • @CZ350tuner
    @CZ350tuner 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The Urie loco its based on is the Southern Railways C14 0-2-2 (later 0-4-0).
    Hornby's instruction manual for their pioneering Zero One DCC loco module fitting stated that it was impossible to fit the module into this type of loco so recommended installing it into a permanently coupled van wagon.
    When I bought my Zero One DCC system in 1979 (which I'm still using on my layout today!!) the first loco I installed a loco module into was an R.355.R Polly and it went easily into the left water tank using double sided Scotch tape (or as BBC Blue Peter presenters call it, "Sticky backed plastic tape".

      @oscarpaisley  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely going out of there way to avoid product placement back then on the BBC. Thanks again for providing some great information. I've just had a look the C14 via google its a very short looking locomotive.

    Just one other thing Oscar,@ 0:10 there are 4 cable loads on the siding.Are these all Triang ? and how many different ones do they do.Thanks Kevin

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good evening Kevin, there are various different styles of Cable Drum over the years as well company names/designs on their sides. I currently only have a small number of them. The ones on the layout are all Tri-ang. Have a look at this link www.tri-ang.co.uk/cable.htm it shows many of variations that were produced.

    I got the loco and the coaches and they arrived today. It runs well, though it hesitates on points. It is my second loco and I got it for cheap. I am happy with my purchase

      Hi great to hear you've got one of these terrific looking sets, it's not unusual for these 0-4-0 locomotives to occasionally stutter on the points.
      Take care.

    Oscar your videos are so nostalgic for me.
    They take me back to the innocence of my youth.
    My first trainset was for Christmas 1959.
    It has a Metro Cammel DMU with an oval of series 3 track and a battery controller.
    It had the little bottle of shell oil and a little lapel badge.
    Wow the UK hadn't even produced its last steam locomotive then 92220 Evening star from 1960.
    It seemed like a different planet back them

      @@oscarpaisley your videos are great Oscar, it's about trainset fun.
      Look at all the old catalogues, with a father and son who had everyrhing on the board.
      Well you gave created that.
      They were happy days then as we were kids and didn't have everything in our face like today.
      I always wanted the catenary and it was much later I got the steeple cab.
      Always wanted Brittania with smoke but to much money for mum and dad, but that was ok.

    Due to a deal that Hornby did with Marklin over Thomas, the 4 wheel coaches are also available fro Marklin as Annie and Clarabel but the bodies can be swapped with other Hornby bodies

    Could you do a video on the original Rovex / Triang Railways R.50 "Plunger" Princess. I have 4 of these and they work just fine for a model build in 1950, unlike the Hornby China made locos I have.
    My R.50 "Plungers" work fine on Series 2, Series 3, Super 4, System 6 track and even Peco Streamlined track but not on the fishplateless Series 1 and brass railed Rovex original track they were originally sold with in 1950. Modern Hornby locos and stock ironically runs OK on the early track.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good evening Andy, I do have a Plunger Princess sadly she is missing her front steps. She does run but one of the plungers is a bit lazy and this makes it intermittent when collecting current from the track. It has the motor with the disc commutator. Possibly a video to come featuring this model.Oscar

    Love the gold and blue livery 0-4-0. Triang/Hornby seemed to often swap from the bronze to wire pickup and back again through the 'Nellie' production run. I have collected various age models from an early black BR model with solid wheels and bronze pickups, a later BR black version, Nellie, Polly, No 27 to the later blue and yellow models, and it seems to be pot-luck as to what the pickup will be. The Nellie type ended its life as a push-along toy with various names and colours, minus the buffers and steps. I wonder if the tooling still exists somewhere?
    I must get the blue & gold version! Another great video - thank you :-)

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Gord , glad you enjoyed the video. Sounds like you have a good collection of these models. It would be nice to think the mould/tool for these 0-4-0s is sitting on a shelf somewhere. But I imagen it was very worn and may well have been disposed of like so many other things of the time.

    Wonderful video! The Rural Rambler set was the first Hornby item I purchased about 10 years ago to start my rapidly growing British collection! Still my favorite 0-4-0 to run. Did full maintenance when I got it, routine maintenance since, runs beautifully!

      @oscarpaisley  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Ed, glad you enjoyed the video and great to hear you have the set in your collection. I think these models will run for a very long time with just the basic maintenance as you say especially with this new style of motor at the time.

Some of my favourite models are from the late 50s early 60s the R.59 2-6-2 Tank locomotive in BR black, R.351 EM2 in BR green, R.156/225 EMU and R.258 Princess Royal with the red cylinders
