We did not get a chance to see this show back in the 70's. After only a few editions, ITV yanked it off the air and replaced it with repeats of The Benny Hill Show.
In the original version, Tim Brooke Taylor played the salesman; Graham Chapman played the customer; Marty Feldman was Rogers, and John Cleese played the manager. Their timing and performances were a lot better than this version.
@@ItsMartyFeldman "Oh in Colour" - they are still on youtube, i think the guy re-uploaded them (date: two months ago) And three weeks ago he uploaded (all?) episodes of "Not the Nine O'Clock News". th-cam.com/channels/rwBHPqJGLk3WGCpWItDuWw.htmlvideos I download them all at the moment And i also like "Alas Smith & Jones" very much.
@@peterpaulandmarty2009 Ah OK just checking in case that you didn't know. Just to show that I am not waiting for others to do my work, I requested a Mitschnitt of a Sherlock Holmes episode from the BBC, that is supposed to be LOST. But this probably won't work, it just seems far too easy.
@@ItsMartyFeldman Don't worry. Sending an email to WDR is some kind of work that i am able to do. But: where did you learned the terrible german word "Mitschnitt"? Ääääh, does the BBC still make copies? I thought they stopped it?
@@peterpaulandmarty2009 A very useful word to know! No it does NOT exist in the UK, I wish it did! Although, then I'd spend too much money! France, Holland and Belgium have something similar to the German Mitschnitt system, luckily. So in fact I would be able to get the Marty interview from Holland, but I think the start is missing and it wouldn't be wise to upload openly. In any case it would be cool to find the other interview episode because it was presumed lost. (By the way, WDR said YES we have that Sherlock Holmes, I was very surprised, and then it turned out they were confused with one from nearly twenty years later! Well, 1968 or 1986, that's ALMOST the same, right?)
This was a funny series and didn't deserve the critical drubbing it got. At least it's US run(in a truncated version)led Gene Wilder to cast Feldman in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN(which Mel Brooks got in on after it was conceived)

The "Shirt Shop" sketch was from AT LAST, THE 1948 SHOW.

Nobody can say that these skits are out of date ...
...the sketch with Godfrey Cambridge is totally something from 2021.
Oh by the way, all episodes of Spike's "Oh In Colour" were on youtube a few months ago. They were deleted, but people saved them at home. Just saying.

I'd love to have 13 dollars for 5 pounds now.
