  • Sheriff Street is one of the longest streets running north-south in Georgetown. Walk with me as I track the changes in Sheriff street over the past 20 years.

Thank you Raphael. This brought back memories from 88-90 jogging through Sheriff street from Tucville to the seawalls early 5am in the mornings. Remembered some of the older houses in the video. Also, I recalled there was a house (on the right, heading north on Sheriff) with solar panels on the roof...it was my queue to start sprinting to the wall.

Thank you so much for your videos. I really enjoy them. A couple of questions. What is it with the piles of sand I see at the side of the road all over the city? Why don't people move them when they are finished with them? Also nobody seem to pay any attention to landscaping. Beautiful houses surrounded by bush or worse. Don't they notice what is around their houses?

+bill newman there is no incentive for people to keep their surroundings clean. Unlike in the USA where home owners can be fined by the Home Owners Association, HOA, or the City for violating housing agreements, no such HOA exists here and the city does not issue fines. Housing records are so outdated that the city cannot identify home owners in most cases because homes have not been properly inherited for generations homes have.

Walked that street many times in my Youth...but like everything in Life; there are Changes to the Landscape. keep safe; it would be something if and when Sidewalks are part of the Infrastructure.

I think it is a good thing that Sherriff Street has changed. It looks like the Commercialisation will help alleviate the congestion in Central Georgetown. I thought I read somewhere - City Hall and Government wanted to disperse Local, Central Government and Busineses away from the centre of Georgetown - Hence the development of Sheriff Street,. East Bank Public Road and the like. One of the most significant changes as been on East Bank Public Road and on the Rupert Craig Highway. The real danger is the "Mega City"

Sherriff Street is a couple miles from the CBD of Greater Georgetown. Just like the new recent strip shopping developments on East Bank Public Road and the Giftland Mall development. It seems to me.
the problem with car parks in Georgetown is that you are encouraging traffic into a small city centre - generating increased congestion, RTAs, journey times and pollution. Look at the already terrible driving in Guyana. As you know the roads are narrow, bumper to bumper parking, pavements a congested with street sellers and people
It would be better for people and business for the City Council and Government to encourage to the development of Busines and Retail Parks in the Suburbs of Georgetown and the hinterlands - Say Diamond and down the Rupert Craig Highway or out by the University of Guyana and both Airports.
The one thing in Guyana there is no shortage of in flat land.
Finally I think out of town strip shopping is coming to Guyana - Sherriff Street and EB Public Road are the first signs - I am looking for to see what happens next. A very exciting time for Guyana

yes i knew about the new bridge, yes from what i have heard since i keep my 👂 on Guyana that they plan on closing Harbor bridge and building a permanent bridge such as the white stone bridge in New York my friend. But would love to hear more on what the government is really going to do and what the time span would be on a project as that
