    Love the simplicity of this boat! Don't need all the shiny bits to get out on the water.

    Sublime de simplicité et d’efficacité. Tout y est. Des noeuds ganses sur les bancs, des ridoirs, un étambot et un bon gréement. Bon vent !

    Love to watch this video, time and again! This is sailing, basic and straightforward. Look at his face, when all sails are set and he settles on the thwart. I know that feeling: Pure happiness!

    I learned alot from watching this video. His boat does not have all the riggings that boats have today; such as a traveller or winches and locking clamps. Very crude but it works like a charm and at his age he still operating like a young man.
    Good work sir.... This is all man had when they began to sail the worlds waters thousands of years ago.

    Sorry could not understand the language but I did enjoy watching the film putting the old sails and rigs together and sailing it with a knot here and there holding the sails where he wanted them, basic gear but does the job . Very good video thank you for sharing.

    Just jammed the jib sheet in a slot in the thwart. No blocks or cleats at all! No centreboard, and the rudder pintels/tiller set up was fascinating.

      Absolutely! function over form. Check out the history of Oselvar boats. Over 500 years of that particular 3 strake design. Faerings basic design like this apparently go back 1100, to 1400 years.
      Pretty amazing, and still such a relevant, practical, and beautiful design.

    For English only speakers, the video description translates as follows;
    Instructional film on rigging and maneuvering the Romsdal sphere. This Romsdalsphere is built in 1928 and all the essential equipment is included. The Romsdal sphere is better for sailing than regular rowboats because it is less flat bottom and has a transverse stem. We get to see how the ferry is hosted by the rig and maneuvered out on the fjord

      Thanks for that.

    • @styx85
      @styx85 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, "Romsdal sphere" is wrong, that translation assumes the name is divided like "Romsdal sfæring", which it isn't. _Romsdal faering_ is a fine "translation", as _faering_ is pretty much an international name for this particular type of boat anyway.

      @@thomaseriksen6885 Nah, færing is not derived from "å fare" or anything like that, it's from the old Norse _feræringr_, which means, uh, four-er. Four oars.

    Fantastisk korrekt dialektføring og konsekvent bruk av dativ.

      Fantastisk kommentar, jeg veit knapt hva dativ betyr.

      @@Vingul Desse setningane, her skrivne i tilnærma standardisert ortografi, viser ein bruk av skiljet mellom dativ og nominativ som er vanleg i dei dialektane som har teke vare på dette kasusskiljet:
      (11) Han Ola går ned på vegen. (Ola går nedover mot vegen.)
      (12) Han Ola går nedpå vega. (Ola er nede på vegen og går bortover.)
      Hankjønnssubstantivet veg har mange stader suffikset -en i bunden nominativ eintal og suffikset -a i bunden dativ eintal. Nominativ blir nytta etter ein preposisjon for å uttrykkje rørsle mot eit mål, medan dativ blir nytta etter ein preposisjon for å uttrykkje at noko(n) er på ein stad.

    Far min hadde en Romsdalsfæring med fullt seilutstyr. Men den hadde ikke klyver. I ungdommens vankunne ødela vi mye. Hadde jeg visst det jeg vet i dag, skulle jeg visst ha ivaretatt både båt og utstyr.
