I wasn’t a beach person either until I visited Culebra. I spent hours at Flamenco beach playing in the waves, lying on the sand, etc. ❤🌴 So awesome.

It's unfortunate that you didn't have the greatest time in Vieques. My husband and I went there two years ago and had a fabulous time. The beaches were gorgeous and we had great food in Esperanza! Wonderful horse ride to Negra Beach. I will say the night ride in Mosquito Beach was a little disappointing in that we didn't see very many luminous creatures but we still enjoyed the ride . Viequea is such a beautiful place that we are thinking about moving there.
Honestly I still have great memories about Vieques cause I spent my (very disappointing) day with amazing people there ❤️ thanks for watching

We were on Flamenco beach just 3 days ago. It is a very very nice beach but the waves were rough. Too rough to snorkel. It is a white sandy beach and it is some work to get there with the ferry and all. You could walk from the ferry dock to flamenco beach in about 45 minutes. It is worth the effort but I have visited better beaches on other Caribbean islands and Hawaii. Go see for yourself of course.

One of my uncles lives on Vieques and has run a guesthouse there for quite a while now. I believe he's been there 20+ years now. I have LOVED it every time I've visited! I was fortunate enough to visit twice while swimming in the Bio Bay was still permitted (before a stupid tourist did a stupid thing and they had to ban swimming in it - I assume it is still banned...I haven't been to Vieques in a while) and twice after it was banned but could still go on kayak tours in it. On one of the trips, my girl and I took a quick puddle-jumper flight from Vieques to Culebra to spend all day at Flamenco Beach...had planned to explore the island more, but ended up spending all day in that incredible water at that beach. Also have explored a lot of the main island, staying a few days during one of the trips in Old San Juan and did an amazing zip-lining excursion through the El Yunque Rainforest. I need to go back for another visit!

@@dianawanderlust Part of the kayak tour (at least the 2 I went on) involves everyone paddling out into the bay when it is pitch dark...the guide stands up in his boat and hits the bottom of his kayak with his paddle...instantly, you see streaks of blue shoot out all around everyone's kayak...any fish that happen to be swimming around closeby when the paddle hits the bottom of the kayak scatter quickly, causing the phytoplankton to become agitated, which causes the neon blue lighting...the fish become outlined in neon blue, which is a trip to see as they scatter, you can track them...e tons of different fish shapes/types...
Well..back when people could still swim in the bay (which was INCREDIBLE treading water while the water lights up like neon blue fireworks as your arms and legs move) a tourist decided to jump in right on top of a particularly large outlined fish...you can probably guess what that "particularly large" fish might have been...I can't remember if she got bit by the shark or if they shut it down simply to be safe due to a close call...but yeah...not sure what possessed the person to jump...it is easy to differentiate fish when they scatter in the neon blue lighting. So even if it wasn't a shark, why take that chance? Lol...tourists gotta ruin it for the rest of us!
I definitely encourage you to go back though! Give Vieques another chance. I can put you in touch with my uncle. You'd love him. Could get you situated and make sure you get the best experience.

In Vieques you guys needed to rent a Car. We did so in our trip and had an amazing time. Poor planning in your end guys.
"I'm not really a beach person." Hmm. Not sure I believe this. I've seen video evidence proving you never see any water anywhere without going in for a swim.
Haha, thanks right! I LOVE swimming for sure but I can’t chill at the beach for hours and sunbathe like some people do. Also not a big fan of sand im my clothes 😅 Rivers are my favorite, this fresh, clean running water… YES!

@@dianawanderlust Mom's Spaghetti is Eminem's place. I have not been there, but right in the theater district and Little Caesars Arena is right there. I am northern suburb so about a 45 minute drive down. Lots of great places in Detroit now. Safe travels!!

The only way to see the bioluminescence bay is to book a kayak tour that starts at 7pm. And you have to be there, on the island, by the time it starts. How is that too much planning 😅
