Effects of Too Much Torque on Wire Wheels! This is a Safety Issue!

  • Wire wheels require care and upkeep, from proper cleaning to avoid rust + discoloration, to driving smoothly. Applying too much torque -- by doing burnouts, for example.
    Too much torque will loosen the spokes and throw off the tire balance, also causing a safety hazard.
    For best results on wire wheels, roll at a slow tempo. Keep your wheels clean, and keep your car garaged when you're not driving.

      I was surprised too. I rarely see these car wheels, mainly on low-riders that bounce. But I always thought they were one piece. I didn't know they were like bicycle & motorcycle wire wheels.
      ...Do these car wheels use tubes too?

    • @observingrogue7652
      @observingrogue7652 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Now that I think about it, it makes sense.
      Dirtbikes, Dualsports, and Adventure motorcycles use wire spoke wheels, because if they hit something hard enough offroad, a cast wheel would crack or be too bent to hold air.
      Wire spoke wheels are stronger, and if they do break, you just have to replace the rim or broken spokes, and rebuild the wheel, instead of buying a whole new wheel.
      I understand now why bouncing low-riders use wire wheels. Its not just a style, its actually to survive those bounces.

    The problem is that it is radial laced. It has to wind up a little to transfer torque from hub to rim or vice versa. It has to be laced with at least 1 or 2 cross. Look at a bicycle wheel. They’re usually 3 cross. You’ll never see a radial spoke rear wheel on a bicycle for this reason.

    Are wire wheels on a motorcycle capable of the same thing? 9 years ago, I believe the wire wheels caused my bike to fishtale when I had to brake hard(foot first, hand second)which put me down doing 75. Bounced of a tanker truck into the tires on the ambulance. Have not rode since . Just curioue

    That's the reason why oldscool wire wheels have crossed spokes.
    Spokes need to be tangentional in order to transmit torque within the wheel.
    Straight spokes are just for show.
