I agree with you that Starlight is one of the more interesting characters. I really didn't like her at first....it took a minute to warm up to her because of what she does in this episode, but after following her journey through the end of season 7, I not only like her character, I respect her.

You know Smurf....I never thought I'd say this before I saw this episode, but for just this once, I would recommend trusting Pinkie Pie over Fluttershy.....you will see why as you watch the episode. I don't dare spoil it. I will say Pinkie has just cause for being suspicious of this new group of "friends".
I like villains that think they're in the right. It makes for more potential story than 'I do bad things because I'm evil and for no other reason'. Though I guess if you think about it, most MLP villains thus far have thought they were in the right, or at least they rationalized to themselves that they were right, just like most real life evil people I guess.
I think most villains are selfish and they know they are doing bad shit for their own personal gain. They just don't care which makes them evil. I don't think most are genuinely good people that are just misunderstood lol.

Yeah Barbie as a villain is pretty cool. These are the episodes I recommend you watch- 8, 9 (100th episode), 13, 15, 17, 18 (must see!!!), and 24, besides the finale. S5 premiere is the best premiere for me personally.
Looking back, the funny thing is Starlight probably didn't need to run away and could've taken out EVERYONE there if she really wanted to. Pretty sure that pony could nuke all of Equestria with her magic. If you notice, the staff wasn't real, so we know she's powerful enough to remove other ponies' cutie marks on her own, which is insane. Btw, I'm pretty sure that yes, all the background ponies have names. Either official or fan-made. Some have both that people like to use depending on preference. But yeah, if not all of them, then I'd estimate at least about 90% of them do have one.

I wouldn't call Starlight a fan favorite, she's more of a ... The most controversial character in the fandom. Not going to spoil anything but it's been three seasons and people still can't talk about her without arguing. Believe it or not I LOVE Starlight Glimmer! She's a really cool character. I also love Sugar Bell, Double Diamond, Party Favor, and Nightglider. Starlight Glimmer's talent is Magic. Like Twilight. But she's a good representation of what could happen if a pony who's talent is magic goes the wrong way. Starlight thought she was doing the right thing. But obviously she went about it the wrong way. It gets explained later.

I wouldn't call Starlight a fan favorite, she's more of a ... The most controversial character in the fandom.
Not going to spoil anything but it's been three seasons and people still can't talk about her without arguing. Will be interesting to see how your opinion on her goes as you continue to react to episodes though.
The list for this season doesnt really matter as long as you watch episodes 18, 24, 5, and they each have their own episodes where they go on different adventures sent to them by the map. Episodes 8,16, and 22

Believe it or not I LOVE Starlight Glimmer! She's a really cool character.
I also love Sugar Bell, Double Diamond, Party Favor, and Nightglider.
Starlight Glimmer's talent is Magic. Like Twilight. But she's a good representation of what could happen if a pony who's talent is magic goes the wrong way.

the season (in my opinion) ; Episodes you should watch for season 5: 1, 2, 5 (AMAZING EPISODE), 9, 12 (AMAZING EPISODE), 13 (Luna), 17, 18 (AMAZING EPISODE), 19 (Pinkie episode that's important to the plot), 20, 24, (Best Applejack up to that date Episode with amazing songs), 25 and 26. There are also 2 Discord episodes, (7 and 22) that are funny. This is just my opinion but please do all the first ones I listed. (Also season 5 is my favorite season so I'm so excited for you to watch.)

Zoe Phillips This is a nice list. I couldn’t help but notice that episode 21 wasn’t added to the list(a Fluttershy episode). Yes, I know that many people have some issues with this particular episode but, we know that Smurf likes Fluttershy. So, I think he should react to episode 21.
