Tour de Fleece vlog 7: Epilogue: Counting, Wet setting Twist, Thwacking Yarn and Looking back

- Hello friends! It's July, so that means only one thing: it is Tour de Fleece! We shall be spinning wool for the next 23 days straight, or at least on the days that the cyclists in the Tour de France are cycling. In this video I vlog stages 23 of the Tour de Fleece where I spin the Zwartbles fleece we have skirted, washed and combed last week. For all this spinning we shall rely on Jillian, my compact spinningwheel, a Louët S71.
In today's video Tour de Fleece is coming to an end. We'll be counting all the meterages on our niddynoddy, wet setting the twist in the yarn, giving it a good thwack and looking back on this adventure.

Congrats on all 1800+! I would also like to congratulate you on your niddy noddy continuing to both exist and function. Every time I see it, I'm just like, "Is this the video where it finally gives up the ghost?" But despite my pessimism, it continues to live on!

For future wet skeins (because these are probably already dry) I can highly recommend a salad spinner! I got one from my local thrift shop for 1 euro and it works great to get almost all of the water out. When I hang my skeins out to dry I don't have to worry about them dripping any. And they are dry within a day!
I have one (see the TdF prep, it's orange, you can't miss it), but I'm not immediately going to knit with them, so now they can just dry on their own :)

I watched this the day after the Tour de France Femmes finished. I think I spun almost every day for the last month. Not sure what to do with myself today lol.
Finished yarns I think are around 400-500m, but they're 3-ply and light fingering weight (mostly) and took FOREVER!! I still have another bobbin on the wheel for a summer spin I started last year. It's also quite thin and taking forever. No idea how many metres that is yet. Either way, I'm just pleased I found some spinning mojo again and finally finished the sock yarn spin that was started in 2017. 🎉 A definite success!!

@@MijnWolden I forgot what I usually do instead of watching other people on bikes. 😜 Luckily I remembered TH-cam was an option because one of my cats decided it was cold enough to curl up right by my leg for a bit. 🤣🤣🤣 Dutch summer 🤷🏻♀️
I definitely enjoyed your tour videos! It was a lot of fun and your yarn turned out beautiful, I am a sucker for the natural colored. My second passion to spinning is making bobbin lace. Not very popular in the states.

I haven't counted how much I did because everything is still on bobbins and I'm still missing most of my tools, but I'm just happy I got to spin a little again.

I drum carded a few 100g from one of last year's fleeces.
I'm struggling to get my scouring right Little lamb fleece still feels greasy as hell after scouring and drying :(

I quite often thwack my yarns against the bath after washing them late at night and it ALWAYS wakes up my partner who then sleepily asks if i'm ok because it sounds like i've fallen or walked into something 😅

@@saraht855 - My great-grandma used to say the path towards a successful, long-term relationship is to make sure your partner never quite knows what to expect. So a bit (or a healthy helping!) of chaos every now and then spells “objective achieved” to me. 😇
Congrats on your tour, and thank you for bringing us along! 🎉🤩 I’m curious, did you find it boring or monotonous to spin one color, one yarn the whole time and if so how did you motivate yourself to keep going? I struggle to keep going even with brightly colored tops sometimes, so 5km of brown is very impressive to me!
Getting the meters is very motivating. And I just enjoy the motions of spinning, no matter what ends up on my wheel 😁

🎉 ❤ yeah...tis gelukt....ge zijt aan den eindstreep....maar euhm....yup grote pels....zucht ik heb er 6....neen euhm ook ik ben er niet in geslaagd en ik heb geen werkende job....euhm jawel mijn job is zo gezond mogelijk blijven en mijn zoon heel houden....maar goed....dat lukt wel,ongeveer dan toch....hoeveel meters ik spon....euhm geen idee....dat houd Ik gewoon ni bij, ik blijf gewoon gaan....daarbij ik ben een ramp in wiskunde, tellen en ik vergeet snel....dus tegen dat ik aan heg einde van mijn draai het op ben....moet ik op opnieuw beginnen tellen, veel te veel frustratie dus tellen doe ik niet....maar tis een hoop...😂
Zorgen is ook een full-time job! En elke spin is een goeie spin, ongeacht hoeveel 😉
