I don't remember if I've ever commented, but let me tell you that I have learned so much from you. I appreciate you very much Jay. Thank you! I have a 5 gallon shrimp tank that is a happy tank where I don't have to do water changes. It has a deep substrate of Florite Red Gravel (for iron) and top layer of "clay" kitty litter with an underground filter and a sponge filter. The underground filter is set to a very slow flow. The duckweed is prolific along with other plants that are happy. I have other tanks as well as I am expanding. I started in November and was only going to have one tank.
put the bottle up straight by weighting it down so that only inveterbraes n bottom dwellers get in. can also get a stick poke right the middle to block the opening to make sure nothing bigger than a shrimp can get in.
My big tank has deep substrate a low flow external filter, pothos and 6hours of reasonable LED light and I'm having trouble getting the plants to grow 😐 no algea though. Nitrate is low around 12

Pothos tends to be a slow grower
