    Thank you Charlie, it was helpful for me. The tip for me that was best was to practice in front of a mirror, because it gives a perspective we wouldn't normally have.
    Thank you again for sharing with us

    Charlie , thank you for another informative video . I like the mirror suggestion, I have been hesitant to play in front of others this helps me see myself as others see me kind of goofy but it has made me feel more relaxed. --mike

    I just got mine today too. Playing it in the car while my husband drives. Well worth the wait and the car smells like a cedar campfire. Sounds terrific ( low D). Any hand exercises you recommend for the right hand as it is low on the flute.

    • @BlueBearFlutes
      @BlueBearFlutes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Brandy, so glad you liked it! Certainly the smell does dissipate however I quite enjoyed myself. The best exercises are simply practicing the scales. Check out our "how to play the Native American flute in under 10 minutes" series.

      BlueBearFlutes we love the smell actually. Played on it in the car all the way to bham from decatur. We would love to make it down to your shop if you have visitors or if there is an event in the area. We are at least in the same state.

    4 years later my flute is still amazing. Only needs oil every few months or so. 👍🏻

      What kind of oil do you use?

    • @tylerw1418
      @tylerw1418 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HC 03 just any oil I got laying around. I’ve used olive oil mostly. I’ve used canola oil. Just apply it. Let it sit for a minute or two and wipe it down dry. Makes the tones so much more beautiful.

    Hello
    A few weeks ago I purchased a flute from someone else on line. I hadn't discovered your videos or flutes yet. The flute I received ( No matter where I place the wood block) is very airy. I just ordered a flute and turtle totem from you yesterday, but I hate to think of the flute I have as a loss.

    When you describe the three different ways to "pronounce" each note, I am not sure I understand how you did the second way. The "ta, ta, ta, ta" I familiar with from playing recorders and tin whistles. But how is the second way different from that. How am I NOT stopping the note, when I am starting the next note? Is it more of a longer "tah, tah, tah, tah"? THANKYOU!

      Once again, I was 1st a brass player! :) Having said that, there are so many great crossovers that 1 can do from any instrument to the next. This has taught me so many different techniques and if you're interested, I do have flute playing classes which are going to be announced soon which I will be doing live!

    Hi Charlie or anyone that can help!I am just learning my flute. I feel like the one I ordered isn't right. I am not changing my breathing at all and when flowing through the scale I'm hearing a crack and change in key. Again, I'm using the same amount of air pressure when going through the scale. Could something be defective? I feel like I'm doing all the right things and my flute isn't consistent. Very frustrating. If anyone can be of assistance I would be so grateful. Thank you!!

    Does it matter which hand covers each set of holes?

    • @BlueBearFlutes
      @BlueBearFlutes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do have some videos on that, although mostly it is personal preference. "Most of us" keep our left hand on the top holes and right hand on the bottom holes. There are those who do go the other way around and although I am ambidextrous and both left and right handed people play as I do, we usually call people with their right hand on the top fingerings left-handed flute players!

    Which flute do you have and what key?

    • @BlueBearFlutes
      @BlueBearFlutes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you're asking about the flute that I'm playing in front of the camera, that is a Blue Bear Flutes Western Cedar F#. If you want to know the one playing in the background of the video as it starts and ends, that is a Blue Bear Flutes key of low D. If you are asking about what types of flutes we make for sale, that would be everything from a very high key of A to a very low key of A and everything in between. We make flutes from Western Cedar, Eastern red cedar, Pine and a new thermally treated Poplar. We have walking stick flutes, backpack flutes and drones, A-frame drones, straight drones, clay whistles and so much more!

    whats the earliest known actual native american recording of flute playing? all i can find is contemporary replications.

    • @BlueBearFlutes
      @BlueBearFlutes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The oldest thing that I can remember having come across that was in the late 1800s or early 1900s however most of this kind of stuff is not readily available.

    Hello iv been playing for a little over a year and iv been keeping up on your videos. actually your videos. My question is, iv noticed that i play with my right hand on the higher holes, and left hand on the bottom holes of course, and i have honestly never seen anyone else play like that, is it just a preference? hope you comment back. thank you. good luck for the future!

    • @BlueBearFlutes
      @BlueBearFlutes  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +joshua rowe Thanks for keeping up with the videos Joshua. Yes, it is personal preference as to which hand you use for the top/bottom holes. Whatever works best and is most comfortable for you is what matters.
