I seem to remember Hunt "The Shunt" being called overly aggressive and causing a fair number of crashes.

I feel his career suffered in some small way behind the idiotic behavior of James Hunt following the Ronnie Peterson crash at Monza.

. As for the crash at Monza in 1978 that cost Ronnie Peterson his life, no single individual was responsible, certainly not Patrese. If there was anyone who triggered the chain reaction that caused it then by all accounts it was James Hunt. This may explain his seemingly personal vendetta against Patrese.

You are right. People were taking Hunt's words as gospel because he was a World Champion. As if that is a garantee...

Patrese certainly tried to take advantage of the disastrous starting procedure at the 78 Monza Grand Prix. By doing this - he was partly responsible for Ronnie Peterson death. The organizers at Monza were of course the main culprits. Disregarding James Hunts view is of course totally ignorant- he was involved in the very crash. Just look at clips of the start . Patrese ran outside of the track limits to overtake and when he ran out of space he veered into the field. The organizers and Patrese were responsible for Ronnie’s death. Period!

I remember à formula 3 race in Rouen Where James was highly concerned in à crash that cost thé life of french driver Jean Luc Salomon .
      After what hé was nicknamed
      James Shunt ...
Any way there is no soft way
To become a formula one driver .. 🤐

I think I have footage of "that accident" from at least 4 different angles....the live TV broadcast, and two 16mm films. There's no doubt that Patrese did nothing wrong. If any driver was at fault, it was James Hunt...but the start was so shambolic it's difficult to pin blame on anyone. There's also the fact that poor Ronnie was in the older Lotus 78 which had a less strong front nose than the 79...the Monza authorities refusing to let the FIA medical crews attend the crash, therefore it was Hunt and other drivers who pulled Ronnie out of his car....the surgery on Ronnie's legs that ultimately resulted in a blood clot which wasn't detected.....it's a sad series of mistakes. But at that time, Patrese was seen as a bit of a wild driver, an "enfent terribile", not the highly respected safe pair of hands and multiple grand prix winner that he became. The entire paddock pretty much disliked him, and went along with Hunt's idea that Riccardo was at fault. In some of his commentaries, James would be scathing towards Patrese though he seemed to mellow later. Hunt was genuinely upset and worried for Patrese after his 1992 Portugal crash, and acknowledged in 1991 in particular Riccardo was a contender.

My favorite driver was Gilles Villeneuve because of his sheer flamboyant style. He raced with blown tires damaged bodywork and often threw the car into corners fishtailing. His race at Dijon banging tires with Arnoux was a classic moment. A real Ferrari driver!

Interesting video but your opening shot was Laudas 1976 Nurburgring crash, the year before Patrese entered F1.

No Sir. We was not reckless or spectacular. In fact he had a very conservative driving style.

Several factors lead to the crash. From the start Other drivers caused a deadly cocktail of circumstances. Ronnie didn't die in the car but later in hospital. Some people blame the hospital for not checking certain details which caused his death. Hunt wrong in his point of view. He also had a very arrogant nature, not the most liked person in the paddock.

Commentator isn't an F1 fan, can't say his surname correctly. If he'd have heard the way Murray walker said it, it would have been fine. Other than that, was a good video.
