TMNT & The Simpsons was a matter of pride and bragging rights beating the game from start to finish on just a quarter. The camaraderie of having other players join in on the fun was just priceless.
I miss the arcade, the sounds, light and excitement. Our world has turned into a dead mall and zombies lost in supermarkets 😏
If you get a raspberry pi 4 amd a retro pi for like 60 maybe 70 bucks you can have all of it.

@@rangerCG Nah, much of the magic is gone. Arcade halls/venues are mostly gone. Sure there are some, but it was a meeting place in the 80s. Back then video games was something new. And the venues were a magic place. My kids loves gaming. They think it's cool & fun, but not magic like we did. Everything is mostly evolution, not revolution.

OMG Initial D??? Wangan Midnight??? Theres so many videos and enthusiasts of this game. WTH
Star Wars Triology Arcade, Simpsons, Street Fighter 2, Ms Pac-Man, Galaga, TMNT in Time, and Time Crisis were my faves in the day. Still are.
Holy crap, those R my favourite games growing up. If U add Afterburner 1 and 2, Cruisen USA, Sega's Escape Jurassic Park and Dragonslayer, I will be in games heaven lol.
I am a boat Captain and my time spent playing Astroids has contributed more to my success in this job than the time I spent in school, the spaceship handled just like a boat!
I was an arcade video tech 1999 to 2003 and I say ms.pac #1 with speed mod and galaga with rapid fire mod, that was most popular sold where I worked. For pinball machines it was Addams family #1.
I wasn't much of a PacMan, but Galaga, The Addams Family along with Dragonslayer and Afterburner 1 and 2 was always busy in my neighbourhood.
Mortal Kombat , NBA JAM, and Crusin' USA were my go to games at the arcade along with the Simpsons and TMNT games
Crazy taxi house of the dead the 90s star wars arcade game the jurassic park light gun games were my personal favorites.
“Do you have Asteroids?” “No, but my Dad does. Some days he can’t even sit down.”
My dad said peoples minds were blown when they realized it was usually easier to stay still and just shoot what comes towards you lol people use to just fly around recklessly and kill themselves. He also said asteroids donkey kong and pacman would always be full when they first came out and they'd have to empty them all the time
@@joeywalker2061asteroids deluxe was better but blasteroids better than both. All good in their own ways. The shield in deluxe corrected the one flaw in asteroids hyperspace feature. Poor design almost made the feature useless.
2:35 “Eat the fly. EAT THE FLY!!!”
This makes me wanna watch that episode!
Mine, in no particular order, would be: Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Punch-out!, NBA Jam, Dragon’s Lair, Galaxian, Star Wars original, Star Wars Trilogy, Pole Position, and Missile Command.
"Hey you got Pac-Man?" "No." You got Space Invaders? "Nope." "You got Asteroids?" "No, but my dad does, can't even sit on the toilet somedays."
Defender and Phoenix......Classics!
Not sure how they could have left out Defender. Every serious gamer played it. Robotron was revolutionary with two joy sticks. Gyruss was one of my favs also.
1 Defender
2 Scramble
3 Pheonix
4 Galaxians
5 Asteroids
6 Tempest
7 Robotron 2084
8 Xevious
9 Pole position
10 Outrun
Pixelated Icon good list, but there should be Pac Man game of some kind in there & a Nintendo classic of some kind.👍🏽👍🏽
Strong list. You missed some but the ones you have are very deserving. Played all of them many times. Your honorable mention list could be 50 games long and still not make everyone happy.
Missle Command is cool a sort off Space Invaders but different or Galaga. All 3 are fine i would add Berzerk to the list as legend games go played them all with Pac-man.Saw Killer Instinct u had Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat u could throw Tekken in that aswell
Cruisin' USA, Moon Patrol, Golden Axe, 1942 were my go to games at the local video store.... ahhhhh, Blockbuster, so many memories.....
LIST A LOAD HERE ARE A FEW DOUBLE DRAGON, CABAL, JAIL BREAK, GREEN BERET, TMNT, PAPERBOY GOLDEN AXE AND KUNG FU MASTER
*_JOUST!_*
Parzival it’s a shame that none of the Williams games made it. Defender, Stargate, Robotron. Sinister & Joust are all classics!!!
No shit! Joust was even in the book “Ready Player One” as one of the challenges. (Not the movie)
I spent so much paper route money on Joust before I beat it
Once i heard how he pronounced "mario" like my mother used to i could not take this list serious!
That's how my dad would say it and he was an og arcade player. Why does it even matter how its pronounced?
The Japanese, who created the game , have their own spin on the pronunciation of the name Mario.
At the arcades I used to play Donkey Kong like crazy, but bubble bobble was my fav and still is =D
Wow... I fell in love with Bubble Bobble but only saw it at 1 arcade ever back in the mid-1980's... didn't get to play it for like 15 years until I installed MAME... then got to play it again several times at Galloping Ghost. What a great game!
As soon as this video started, it had the Bubble Bobble music in the background and I was shocked anyone even knew of the game... then saw it get some love in the introduction.
I loved the game, but damn was it hard as hell at higher levels.
1. Missile Command
2. Zaxxon
3. Centipede
4. Track & Field
5. Afterburner
Ahhh Missile Command!! I loved it so much in the 80s I bought a full arcade game of it, then Gorf, Battlezone, Asteroids, Pacman, Mario Bros, and an obscure one called Pleiades. Good times I'm telling you!!!
Pole position was one of my favorites.
X-men vs Street Fighter
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Killer Instinct 2
Mortal Kombat 2
Killer Instinct
Street Fighter Alpha 3

No Mortal Kombat 2 is a shame. Not a fighting game, but Time Crissis alone with 2 guns nice.

I think that Sinistar should be on that list as well, unless it was on a previous list. Great video guys!!!
Qix simplicity was the Zen of gaming, Q-Bert's THUNK! when he fell and eye bending patterns was unmatched,
Robotron, Golden Axe, DigDug, Adventure, Tempest, Defender and Joust could be found in every arcade.
Pizza shops still have working arcade horizontal glass tables, though most people just eat pizza off of them.
They don't earn much in quarters, but it's a classic part of atmosphere...
I got to play a Qbert prototype, it was called “@?#@!” On the marquee and title screen, saw it a year later as Qbert. The thunking in it was a knocker from a pinball machine (where they are often used to signal a free game)
No sense, Pac man isn't actually the best game, it's just the most iconic, so if you were going for iconic, why not choose the original over mrs.? You can't say its better, because you know what is better? A lot of other games...
Well if we're going by that logic, exactly what game is "the best?"
Games are a subjective medium, and can't really be efficiently gauged by something like copies sold or average review scores.
+Noah Van Helsing Ms. Pacman was more popular, simple as that. In fact, it's the most popular arcade game of all time.
I was born in 1974. That means I lived this in real time. Try to imagine being a kid in the pre internet era. I would go to the local arcade with maybe $1.50 that I had saved by not buying snacks at school. There were the really old classics that had always been there - PAC man, Space Invaders, Asteroids, Star Castle, Galaxian, Berzerk. And every few weeks there was a new game. So many were destined to be classics. Here is a list of games that one day just appeared for me to try. Qbert. Dragons Lair. Donkey Kong. Kung Fu Master. Karate Champ. Marble Madness. Gauntlet. Star Wars. Star Trek. Space Ace. And much later, Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Combat. What a time to be young.
Exactamundo, we were lucky to be born and grew up in the best time ever brother.
I always liked the less popular games like Gorf, Hat Trick, Elevator Action, and my favorite, Bosconian.
back when getting the high score WAS your achievement!
No Defender? Seriously? How can you have a list of arcade games without Defender
No Williams games at all? Not a true top 10 list. Whomever made this was not in the arcades in the '80s.

Centipede, Tempest, Turbo, Track and Field, Joust, Defender, Crazy Climber

Double Dragon
Golden Axe
Ghosts and Goblins
Operation Wolf (the one with the physical UZI)
Elevator operator game?? Not sure what the title was again? Or was that it
Hard to argue with #1. The sheer simplicity of Pac-Man and its ability to stimulate the brains perpetually make it a stand out among the greats.
How is The House of the Dead not even an honorable mention?
Clearly you didn't listen to the part where they said "check out our other videos if your game Isn't listed here"
I loved the original house of the dead it was amazing and when 2 came out I was excited
I guess it depends on which countries they were more popular with. In my city the most popular arcade games were Cadillacs & Dinosaurs and Captain Commando.
I adore that series, even though it is rated M, I loved it since I was 3 and though it was super hilarious and thrilling
Me and my friends allways thought that when Ken and Ryu did a Hadouken, they shouted "How are you Ken?!"

Robotron 2084, Ghouls n Ghosts and Strider should be here. Also New Zealand Story is superb!
San Francisco Rush, Killer Instinct, and the X-Men arcade game should definitely be on the list.

I remembered this as if it was yesterday. Thanks to the video!
As a former DDR player, I'm more than glad that the game's series became among the top five of the top ten, as was "Donkey Kong". Both were a challenging pair of games, but fun.. much like "Thunder Blade". You know, that arcade game where you pilot an attack helicopter through four missions, bringing the fight to the enemy while dodging shot and shell and avoiding head-on collision with many obstacles.

Daytona USA
Daytona USA was extremely popular at the arcade I went to half a mile from my house. That was a phenomenal game especially how you could hook up another console and have up to as many racers as you wanted. Good call on Daytona USA Richard!
I think if you're going to give the Simpsons an honorable mention, you also have to mention the X-Men arcade game. Colossus and Wolverine were my usual team with me taking Colossus. Also wanted to mention that the original Ninja Turtles arcade games of the late 80's are what originally got me into the arcade's. Before that I was strictly a very young Atari gamer trying to beat Pitfall and laughing while I destroyed everyone on the bouncing bullets tanks from the Combat game.

Ms pacman over pacman pathetic.Pacman revolutionised video gaming.
That's not the point. The point is wether Ms. Pac-Man is a better game or not... which it is. It's literally an upgraded version of the original Pac-Man. Pac-man, the original, may have been one of the greatest classics ever, but Ms. Pac-Man took the formula further without actually detracting from it whatsoever. In other words, better but with no actual downsides. And in the end, they're both part of the same legendary franchise, so putting them against each other doesnt even really make sense.
Lol how many people have played PAC man over ms PAC man if your saying ms PAC man is the greatest arcade game off all time it's obvious it's just to get people to disagree with the video so the video shouldn't even be taken seriously it's just hype.
Er.... no. You completely missed my point, I see. Let's just say I'm not the only one that has spotted this aspect of Ms. Pac-man: it's not an unpopular game. The original designers built the game out of a Pac-man machine by upgrading the ROM (often referred to as an "enhancement kit" for the original machine): Like I said, it was **literally** an upgrade to it. They wanted to take something great, and make it even better, which they did, and Midway (Namco's American distributor at the time) approved and ran with it. It had nothing but advantages and improvements over the original, and because of this, they knew it'd do well for them (which it absolutely did: even to this day, Ms. Pac-man is one of the most common arcade games in existence, Galaga another one. There is even an arcade cabinet, also super-common, that actually has both Ms. Pac-man and Galaga on it at the same time, since Namco recognized the hyper-popular nature of the two).
One of the actual reasons why Pac-man is heard of alot isnt that it's a better game: It's that the AI of the ghosts is a bit busted, and the entire game can simply be memorized (not a good thing), so it's been used for many high-score competitions, which receive alot of popularity (such as from Billy Mitchel's achievements in it). Specifically, marathon competitions. Memorization doesnt work in Ms. Pac-man (which makes the scoring system better and the challenge higher, but people will usually gravitate towards stuff that's easier). That, and Pac-man came out first. Pac-man also has one of the most famous glitches in the gaming industry, the Kill Screen, so that's memorable too, despite NOT being a good thing. None of this changes the fact that Ms. Pac-man is an improvement over the original (it also doesnt change the fact that Ms. Pac-man itself was wildly popular). Understand: Popularity (or apparent popularity) is NOT everything, and not even a defining factor in wether a game is good or not. It's irrelevant. I can think of LOTS of hyper-popular games out there that are absolutely bloody terrible, and chances are, you can probably think of some too, so you probably know what I mean here.
I think your missing the point and maybe the people who made this video should have done more research instead of trying to get people to argue with normal like minded people.
Pac Man the character was so much part of the fun of the game changing Pac Man to Ms Pac Man took a lot of the fun people got from the original. That in no way is a sexist point my boss is a woman but Pac Man was not just popular because of the game but the character as well and was probably one of the first iconic video game characters and character Pac Man has evolved into literally thousands of games. How many Ms Pac Man games are their?

Daniel Grace it takes time to get used on the controls. It wasn't hard for me as the control scheme was similar to asteroids.
Arcade control sometimes works better than the single D-pad controls like atari 2600 port or williams arcade's greatest hits for genesis and ps1 especially when i kill the swarmers from tail.

Space Invaders spurred a yen shortage in Japan, no other game has the honor of doing such a thing.

Williams Defender ist the best arcade machine of all times. It was an international sensation when released in 1981. It has the fastest gameplay of any game up to now. It features the coolest sound effects ever heard in an arcade game. It has one of the best control sets ever invented and was one of the most addictive games at it's time. It was the most innovative arcade game at release date featuring a scanner screen, wide explosions, hyper space jumping, both side vertical scrolling, endless levels, destroyable planet surface, ultra aggressive and unique enemy behaviour.. and so on. It is the best grossing game of all times (earned over 1 BILLION dollars) and it is pure adrenalin to play till today because of it´s insanely fast gameplay. It is one of the most sought after arcade games in history.
It is so hard to play for beginners, that the first ships will last no longer than 10 seconds playtime.
Also to mention: It was the first arcade game that added the reason, why you shoot your enemies: Aliens want to kidnap humans and therefor you have to fight them.
Williams Defender ist the true winner of any classic arcade game best- of list.

Gauntlet, Gauntlet 2, Kung Fu Master, Discs of Tron, Yie Ar Kung Fu, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Rolling Thunder, Wardener, Black Tiger, Wonderboy, Wonder Boy 2 In Monster Land, Shinobi, Narc, Commando, Gun Smoke, Green Beret, Paper Boy, 1942, R-Type, Salamanda, Bad Dudes vs Dragon Ninja, Double Dragon, Rampage, Toobin and The Main Event are arcade games everyone should check out.
My personal favorite is Tempest followed by Galaga.
I also really like Lunar Lander, even though I sucked at it.
Did I miss any of the greats?

The rolling pincher! It made any game cooler. Arcade Atari Football, anyone?
Clive Ellis Tempest also was played using a track ball.I loved Centipede, and Poll position.
Never saw Tempest in the arcades with anything but a large dial. When did it have a
track ball?
No double dragon? Not even in the honorable mentions? Beyond criminal
DOUBLE DRAGON 1 AND 2 TOPS
