Cool, I have that Yoshi beanie doll. I got it at a 7-11 in like '96 or something. Back when friends and I played with beanie babies it was my favorite one, lol. Also had a DK and a Mario with a wing cap from the same place, but I lost those two over the years
So is this game somehow connected with bionic commando? You are rescuing super joe in that one are you not and the top down levels look quite similar as do many of the enemies.

Of course the enemies disappear. On NES, there can be only 8 sprites on screen at the same time, that's including the player, the enemies and the bullets. Only way to defeat this is to read the scanline, while the TV is drawing the screen and draw another batch of sprites, the same sprites in another place, with different pixel data, after they reach a certain line. If there too much sprites at the same time crossing the same scanline, the sprites flicker, because they can't be in the same place at the same time. That's not something that can be helped with anything other than better game design. Look at the European version of Ikari Warriors on Commodore 64. There are lots of enemies on the screen, but they always walk in formations where there are never too much sprites crossing the same line. Also, they used background characters (the graphic blocks that either form the letters, or can be redrawn as graphic blocks) to create grenades and their blasts, so there is a lot happening on the screen. There are even multiple grenade explosions happening on the screen, at the same time. If you know anything about programming on 8-bit computers, that's really impressive. Nintendo works in a similar fashion, so it's not impossible to do that with Nintendo too. The C-64 version of Commando is another bad example of a run and gun game. The sprites flicker a lot, maybe even more than on Nintendo. But the Rob Hubbard version of the Commando theme on C64 is excellent, better than the arcade.

It's not like anyone who has coded on the 8-bits has to think about these things. They are kind of self-evident :-) Sprite-flicker is not a bug. It's a feature :-)

Pat you need to do one of my favorite NES games-'Guerrilla War'. 'Commando' was the very first game to give me gamer thumb-from constantly mashing 'UP' on the cross pad.

I remember playing this game every single day and yes it was very hard to master 😉. I recall my father given me a good ass whooping for getting angry and breaking my NES system.
You say it was faithfully ported from the arcade version then you go on to list a good number of things that is different from the arcade... Make up your mind. If it's different from the arcade version then it's not faithfully ported over. It's a different game.

is amazing how bionic commando came after this game.. you can also see the same mechanics from the overview angle..& they use the same name of super joe in BC game,not the main char but some1 you need to rescue,i wander if it was truly intentional from Capcom to do bionic commando as a sequel to this ?"::"? but I like a lot more Bionic commando is 1 of my most fav classics from old capcom
It's a lot harder now than it was in 2006. My copy of Special Cybernetic Attack Team (er, S.C.A.T.) went up from $5 to $65. Quality games that are even remotely uncommon have skyrocketed in value. I'd recommend buying Shadow of the Ninja before its value goes up. Very underrated game. It's like Ninja Gaiden, but you can do 2-player CO-OP. If anything, that's the game that should be $65, not SCAT.

The trouble is this game REALLY needs a high quality arcade joystick like the Zipstick and not that NES joypad which is useless (the ONLY joypad worth using with arcade games is the SEGA official SF2 6 button one and this of course is no good as Nintendo chose their own bespoke joypad connector instead of the standard one) Also this NES cartridge and PC 4 colour rubbish cost 500% more than the C64 version and 250% more than the Atari ST version (which is pretty much arcade perfect in all aspects, the Amiga version is basically an arcade in your home and makes the Supergun a waste of time). Now for some strange reason people of all ages in the USA in the 80s instead of purchasing either an Atari ST for 80% less than a PC XT compatible OR sticking with a home computer which can do it better with better audio and a more frantic/fast paced game than even the arcade game yet highly playable (check out the rereleased C64 version by Nostalgia) they bought an NES and some crappy CGA/EGA PC for the home, the mind boggles. The graphical qualities of the PC DOS and NES versions are just the shit sprinkles on the crap cake that is NES/PC retarded games libraries in the 80s. Ho hum good thing I didn't live in the USA at the time :o)

Commando that was my second Capcom Arcade NES port that after I play 1942 when I was a kid 7 years old since 2008. I remember play is really tuff game but is still a lot of fun on my childhood.
Ironically the sprite in Commando for the IBM XT looks like the same pink Arnold sprite from Predator for Nintendo 🤷🏻♂️
These episodes definitely get funnier in the later volumes. Just so silly, lol.

The main character of Commando (Super Joe) is referenced in the story of Bionic Commando. In Bionic Commando , Super Joe has gone missing and you must rescue him. So is Bionic Commando the sequal to Commando? After all, both games were made by Capcom!

This is one of the easiest early NES games. I beat it all the time as small kid. Kid Icarus, that was a challenge.

I really have some sort of emotional attachment to johto. I dunno... Johto just gives me this really good feeling and the pokemon in the game really stand out to me. Everything about johto just makes me happy.

Justin Credible guerilla war was made by snk not capcom, and was more of a spiritual successor to Ikari warriors and done much better than ikari warriors in my opinion, besides being ridiculously easy :)
