you don't jump off the spikes... you run and jump off the wall just before you hit the spikes (though it's really close to the spikes) . as soon as you hit the wall press the directional pad in the opposite direction and hit the jump button, then you press towards the wall again and repeat.
Who else is playing the switch version and is just seeing how to play the game. I’m here because of that reason and this is the first time I’ve EVER played Metroid. I’ve been missing out man!
I'm with you. I got stuck and found this video. I didn't play it when I was a kid but have been waiting for them to put snes games on switch just for this game.
If it weren't for this guy, and this video, I wouldn't have joined the gaming community. I have him to thank for truly sparking my love for video games. Rest in Peace, Jeremy.

Jeremy is helping the gaming community everyday with this video and his skills. This game is def not a cakewalk either. So congratulations! Jeremy is definitely one hell of a son to be so proud of! He's accomplished a lot for the gaming community on the web in the little time he had.
Wow! That is so kind of you, but the only awesome one is Jeremy. His skill at the games and his courage fighting the cancer was amazing. I was and still am very proud of him. I also miss him every singe day. Really, I am just a normal dad who loved his son and is doing what I can to keep his memory alive. It does me so good to hear that folks are still watching and Jeremy is helping them and being remembered. Thank you so much for the kind comment. Jeremy's dad
Anyone else here just finished Metroid Dread, and then is playing this, not having played it when they were kids? It's awesome! Thank you for the video
Don't feel that way. Cancer in my family is a family trait on my dad's side. Normally for those who have it (thankfully my brother doesn't have the gene for it, which means my niece doesn't either) it shows up later. It seems I'm the lucky one who had it show up a lot earlier than it should. I defeated it once, but that was only stage three. This time it spread a bit and is stage 4. I accept what has happened to me and just hope something comes along soon that will help me out.
@@korbinsavage6497 Go be ignorant on someone else's video. This man is deceased, and you chose his post about having cancer to ask about doing wall jumps.
Jump towards a wall, and when you're right there more or less, hit the other directional button. You should see Samus looking like she's clinging to the wall. At that point hit the jump button. It's something like that more or less...Just practice for awhile, it's easy to do once you get the hang of it.
@@freshstat1csnow Ah, thank you, but when I made this comment I couldn't do it so I thought it was cause I was playing on switch. Now I've gotten past it. Thanks, though!
Such an amazing game. With zero dialogue, zero text prompts, zero speech, zero cut scenes, it conveys a better story than many modern games. It was ground breaking at the time of release to have a "boss" battle in the first minute of game play. Amazing how far things have changed. Also the most memorable death/self sacrifice in gaming that really hasn't been matched until FF7.
Thanks. Yeah, my condition sucks, but there isn't much I can do right now except hope for a new cure. However, I have now been given the chance to essentially sit on my butt and play video games till the day I die. How many people can say that? :P

We all need plans, to take out plastic from the oceans, we can be saving millions of aquatic life... And preventing the extinction of mammals. Even in this age 3D/HD graphics I still find 2D games fun to play. Super Metroid is no exception. Kids these days (man I sound old) will never know the joy of old school gaming.
jagarcia0705 I'm a "kid these days" and I also prefer the old retro 2D games to the new 3D ones. I never even played a 3D Metroid game, only the 2D ones
The silent and menacing atmosphere of this game scared the shit out of me as a kid. I was way too young and felt lost all the time. Amazing job from the developers.
This is a game that needed no cutscenes or speech to feel epic movie-like. The gameplay told the story, and the opening demo story told you what was going on. Eventually the plot would unfold as you went along exploring the planet.
Thank you for the video! Jeremy is currently helping me beat Metroid. I've gotten stuck more than a couple of times and this video is really helping me out! Much love.

This was the most detailed game on snes in my opinion. I played this as a kid, and the ONLY person I personally knew who could beat this entire game game without tips was my little brother, Joey. They didn't have TH-cam videos to help back then. Extremely impressive watching someone dominate this game. RIP
one of my favorite games of all time, i have played it on a few different consoles idk it just always seems to find it’s way back to me, yet i always use this exact video since forever. Rip Jeremy, rest easy

Thanks. This has to be my favorite Metroid title. I've had years and years of practice with it. Don't worry about wall jumping, it just takes a bit of practice. I'm sure if you give it time, you'll be doing it like it was nothing.
Thanks for watching the channel. Unfortunately, Jeremy is no longer here to help you, I wish he was. Hopefully someone out there will answer your question. Jeremy’s dad

THANKS SO MUCH for helping me get thru Super Metroid. What an awesome game! Hasn’t played it since I was a kid but after beating Dread lately, I felt an urge to go back and play the older titles. Wouldn’t have made it thru without your help! 👏🏼 RIP Jeremy
I just finished the game! Thank you for the walkthrough. If it wasn't for the walkthrough I would have quit long ago in frustration. Thanks again! RIP.
That Metroid baby has to be the cutest and most hideous thing in gaming history. Also, I like that last scene when Samus takes off her armor, but then jumps back into it and shoots the viewer; it's like she was saying, "What you lookin' at, pervs?!"
Thanks. I grew up with the NES and SNES. Me and my friends pretty much spent all our time playing these games. It's safe to say I had a lot of practice with these. :P
I could cry with nostalgia with this game. the mood. The sounds . The graphics. This was my 1st ever console game played when i got a snes for christmas . It just BLEW my mind . I need to play this again
Thank you to Jeremy for making this wonderful tutorial. I’ve beaten this game about 50 times but I tried it his way and it upped my abilities simply by the jumps he was doing to get items earlier than intended. I’m a better player because of this. Thank you.
@El Jay I am very happy that the channel remains active. I could not save Jeremy, but I at least I do what I can to preserve his memory. The chance of me becoming a gamer my self is pretty slim. Jeremy's dad
Had this game when it first came out; then it got stolen. 10 years later I bought it again for 43 dollars, I didn't regret it at all. In fact, it's in my SNES right now, which is behind my TV for easy access :D ~ After not having played for a while, I've only forgotten few of the secrets. But hot damn, I've just discovered the joys of sequence breaking.
There is a small frame of Samus touching the wall when she somersaults into one. HIt the jump button again during that frame. It's hard to get the timing of it right, but practice makes perfect!
Easiest way I can explain is when doing a spinning jump towards the wall, press away from it before you press the jump button. E.g say your jumping towards the right wall press left < on the d-pad before you hit the wall then press the jump button. Vice versa for the left side of the wall give it a bit of practice. I hope this helps.
@@rory38584 omg thank you for this! It's so hard! Even with your explanation (which was perfect) I spent 30 minutes trying to get the jump just right. I was trying to get into that damn mario tunnel on the wall in the beginning! Those flying little shits weren't helping either! DX

Thanks. This was one of the many, many, many games I had back in the day. When you play it so many times, you start to develop a routine as far as item collecting goes....I still remember the days getting stuck in that pit area with the three green aliens and not knowing what the hell I was suppose to do...I had to bomb jump my way out of there since I didn't know about wall jumping... :P
Big thank you! I was having a lot of trouble at the beginning! I read some of the comments and it sucks to find out about Jeremy's passing. My condolences. A big thank you Jeremy for the walkthrough! 🙏 I wish I would have discovered your channel years ago.
When you're running long enough, you start flashing. Press down and you should be able to store the energy. You can then do a shinespark either upwards, or to your left or right. It's not like it's a secret move or anything. A bit of practice helps. You could try it out in the open area where your ship is.
Idk how people played these games without walkthroughs back then. Maybe my patience with exploring and back tracking has dwindled over the years, but I'm grateful for TH-cam and walkthroughs and guides lol. (Playing on Switch :3)
That was pure awesome! I've played through this game a few times too, and I'm fairly good at remembering stuff in (especially great) games, but none the less it still always take me a few minutes to re-remember how to get past the Morphing Ball area, lol. I guess I get stuck in that because I think of needing bombs to destroy the floor XD Oh, and love those little boss victory dances and the "HOLY CRAP, A GIANT METROID! OHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT!!!" They made me lol XD
Glad you enjoyed the video. I always try to add a bit of dramatic flare to the videos I make when the opportunity shows itself. Those little things that people miss if they aren't paying attention ;)
I never got to play this game as a kid because the SNES was before my time, but I remember being younger and wanting to get one. Just now started playing it for the first time on an emulator. Loving it.
Growing up in the 90s was tough money wise so i never heard of this masterpiece until the first smash game and didnt play until i bought snes classic and man, this game is amazing, i cant stop playing it and if it wasnt for this guy thats playing i would be stuck! I remember playing this for the first time at my aunts house way back in 95 when I was 6 years old. I'm 26 now and still play this game just as much as Fallout 4 and all my other favourites. A timeless masterpiece!
It's more of a hidden technique that you could do anytime. They actually do show you in the game how to do it (by watching the three little critters wall jump in a certain area). It's easy once you learn. You jump towards a wall, and when you reach it, hold the other directional button. It should look like Samus is trying to cling to the wall. You can then jump off that wall and do it again and again. It's really not all that hard if you practice a bit.
The cryptic, where the fuck do I go nature of this game ruined it for me. The keyboard is a minor issue. I have no idea why people think it's a "masterpiece".
Spicy Doge this game is nearly impossible without a strategy guide or video walkthrough, I have no idea how people did it back in 1994 without the internet.
I never seen no one beat the game the way you did. Its awesome. :'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'( i miss my supernintendo. but thanks for those videos. Its been a long time since i played this games and i just found them. Thanks. Your awesome
Thanks, this is the best correct playthough I've found, most do bomb jumping to get to paths early, I like going in the intended route the game developers had in mind after unlocking each item. Thanks again, saved in my favorites until I get finally get this game memorized!
Played this when I was younger, on the SNES. Coming back to it on the Switch I find this wonderful guide and the heartwarming tragedy behind this guide. How bitter sweet it much be for his family to find their sons life helping others enjoy this wonderful piece of gaming history all over again.

That’s a good, solid run through the game. I like how it only relied on basic wall jumping and speed jumping, which most “regular” players can do. Don’t get me wrong - I enjoy seeing the crazy speed runs executed with almost godlike perfection - but I liked this, too. Very sorry to read of the player’s passing. A small part of him lives on here through one of the games that he enjoyed.
thanks jeremy for the walkthrough. been wanting to play super metroid for a while now. played on my snes mini. i swear i was stuck at the beginning for the longest time cause i never knew you could use missiles to open doors. and the video is entirely no commentary. that's what walkthrough videos should be. i hope your son rests well.
I’m like 8 hours in and at the 1 hour mark of this video... Do I suck? It says it takes a average time of 10 hours to beat this game. Keep in mind I’ve never played a Metroidvania before.
Go find an emulator. Play this game and finish it. Then play and finish Castlevania: Symphony of The Night on the original PlayStation. Congratulations, you are now in the elite gamers club. These two games are freaking EPIC.
@Mister Guy Emulation is, for the most part, free. And nearly anyone can do it on their phones, so if you don't have a device such as the ones you listed then emulation is pretty awesome.
Shit... Games today may be prettier and more complex but I will tell you this. The amount of hours it would take to get 100% in games like these must have been lots. Everything is hidden so well and as much as its an action games is a damn puzzle game too haha.
I agree. Kids today would complain that there isn't an option that more or less tells you where stuff is :P I think it's safe to say they just don't make 'em like they used to....
Years later I still remember reading of our man's passing. With my recent issues of nerve damage that suddenly took to my hands, then spread through my body, I dont know if I can keep playing. There's a lesson in playing and doing what you can with who you can and doing the best you can in there somewhere as it can all come to a stop so fast... That said though, my time could be coming, and I find myself stopping by here and watching one more playthrough left behind by our departed friend. I knew him directly not, but it's been something watching these. He was also one of the only ones who dared to finish through GunHazard, a japan only game that got an english mod that didnt always work out perfect to play in menus, but loved to see it here. To the family keeping the channel going and adding a bit more, good on ya. I hope my family backs me similar, but I won't have quite as much of a TH-cam completionism legacy to leave behind. I messed around through a lot of games but not quite regularly to make a name for myself here, though some will remember me for a wile in Second Life I think from flying planes, sailing, and being a Sky Pirate for fun and bringing back the idea of pirates in fantasy airplanes. Hope it makes a come back, it somewhat has. I can type a little more now, but my situation is outpacing the medication time after time. I hang on to spend time with a few people, but time will tell where the pain will become too much. I might get lucky and things might change like two other times in my life I fell into pain doctors couldn't figure out, but it never quite took to my hands and my body like this so fast and extreme before, I worry as such this time is likely very different, and it seems to be. But enough about me, just wanted to say in a spot that a man who dealt with his own pains and had to go, I may be getting there in time, and that before I do I enjoy seeing these. Videogames have been how I could experience so much life has to offer, in stories, experiences, life styles, and it's how I could cost effectively find and indulge in most of my hobbies, even interesting research, that I was inspired to look into after. I even learned a bit about Nuclear Fission and Fusion first by curiosity driven by videogames before I went into it in school. No matter what anyone says, they can be an art like any movies, which I still love too and now have to depend on simply enjoying those more, books, and other works. To lose my ability to play them hurts me right in the soul, but the nostalgia they've left behind, like MOG and his playthroughs, are still a gift within the gift of life it's self. Enjoy them, enjoy family, do something with your friends and fellows at least once a week. Live life while you can because the ride can be over before you know it. With all that, I actually managed to type this on a keyboard, but that's probably going to be about as much as I can type for the night thus. Here's to hopes that gets better and better, that this nerve damage truly has stopped throwing more pains, and maybe even fade back so I may be able to play again. The two times past I been in pain for a year or two at a time past at least never took to keeping me from using my hands on and on. The day your hands get limited when you're into what we are, is a nightmare. Cherrish em while you got em, same as with your family and friends. And despite what some of these videos who say you should cut people out who are negative for your own well being... don't be so quick to cut out friends going through a life smashing loss or fear within just one month or two. . . Especially if that friend was there for you through hard time after hard time, and others bailed on you. Sadly a friend I loved greatly as a friend, I'm afraid he's done just that. And it hurts bad. Speaking of hurt, this is where I need to stop typing, and it's interestingly quite a bit, but all I can do now as the pain comes from it. So hard to stop when you have so much to say you often can no longer say while you still have a moment you can. So I end with what I said. Mind your family, what you can do with your hands, be there for friends, and absolutely try to do what you can do for y our health so you can be there for all else as long as possible. My journey may end at a mere age of 41 because of this, but we'll see. I'm still thankful for all I've had, especially in gaming, and what people have offered in gaming, like this very game, and this very playthrough. Hope we can meet up in the here after, MOG. I'd really like to meet you and talk about w hat good we had in life. Especially the games.
I saw this because i was stuck near the beginning and didnt know what to do. Turns out i had no idea there was a sprint button. (im playing the 3ds virtual console version.)
add me to the list, i probably wouldn't have figured it out if not for this comment.. in other metroid games you get the shinespark after a certain upgrade or whatever.. i couldn't figure it out.. thanks for the comment.. hopefully there isn't anything else i'm missing.. lol. don't think there' a virtual manual for it.
If you have acquired the space jump then you have to be moving forward right before you push the jump button. In other words a slight "forward jump". You should begin to somersault in the air. After you start to descend you can press and hold the jump button once again to ascend. It takes a while to get it down smoothly but once you figure it out it should become a breeze to do. Mess around with it for a bit to adjust getting use to it. I apologize if this has been answered before.
Never played this game back in the day so when I saw it today at the CD Exchange today for 65 bucks i was like yea right! Watching this now makes think they where basically giving it away for that price. Shit is nice!

Wow! That is so kind of you, but the only awesome one is Jeremy. His skill at the games and his courage fighting the cancer was amazing. I was and still am very proud of him. I also miss him every singe day. Really, I am just a normal dad who loved his son and is doing what I can to keep his memory alive. Anyone else here just finished Metroid Dread, and then is playing this, not having played it when they were kids? It's awesome! Thank you for the video
Same here haha
Don't feel that way. Cancer in my family is a family trait on my dad's side. Normally for those who have it (thankfully my brother doesn't have the gene for it, which means my niece doesn't either) it shows up later. It seems I'm the lucky one who had it show up a lot earlier than it should. I defeated it once, but that was only stage three. This time it spread a bit and is stage 4. I accept what has happened to me and just hope something comes along soon that will help me out.
Hi can you please tell me how to do a wall jump in the game?
Korbin Savage you have to make a jump that makes Samus spin then as soon as you touch the wall, tap the opposite direction as you press jump again.
SaikyoMog I hope this helps, check out "Dr. Robert Morse the great lymphatic system" online.

Jump towards a wall, and when you're right there more or less, hit the other directional button. You should see Samus looking like she's clinging to the wall. At that point hit the jump button. It's something like that more or less...Just practice for awhile, it's easy to do once you get the hang of it.

I can NOT, for the life of me, do the freaking wall jumps 😣😣😣
WALL JUMPS... I seriously cant do it, am I missing something? How do you do it ???
There is a small frame of Samus touching the wall when she somersaults into one. HIt the jump button again during that frame. It's hard to get the timing of it right, but practice makes perfect!
Easiest way I can explain is when doing a spinning jump towards the wall, press away from it before you press the jump button. E.g say your jumping towards the right wall press left < on the d-pad before you hit the wall then press the jump button. Vice versa for the left side of the wall give it a bit of practice. I hope this helps.

Sick run, dude. I couldn't help but laugh at the end when you let the animals out, only to see the planet explode right after.
They actually do escape. You'll notice their ship (or whatever it is) flying out into space at one point after the planet explodes.

2:08:22 the purple dot that’s moving on the right side is them.
When you're running long enough, you start flashing. Press down and you should be able to store the energy. You can then do a shinespark either upwards, or to your left or right. It's not like it's a secret move or anything. A bit of practice helps. You could try it out in the open area where your ship is.
I tried that but it won’t let me move. For example I did the forward but it just did the pose and it didn’t move me
Hehe I'll always love the reaction of the Metroid towards the end: "OM NOM NOM - wait..."

I'd really like to meet you and talk about w
hat good we had in life. Especially the games.
RIP Jeremy.
I saw this because i was stuck near the beginning and didnt know what to do. Turns out i had no idea there was a sprint button. (im playing the 3ds virtual console version.)
Wilk wolf I'm glad I'm not the only one
at 1:33:45 how the hell do you jump like that?? using my 3ds
add me to the list, i probably wouldn't have figured it out if not for this comment.. in other metroid games you get the shinespark after a certain upgrade or whatever.. i couldn't figure it out.. thanks for the comment.. hopefully there isn't anything else i'm missing.. lol. don't think there' a virtual manual for it.

I just wanted to send my condolences and a thank you as I use this amazing guide in July of 2021 playing on my switch at 42 years old. Thank you so much.

Super Metroid, in my not-so-humble opinion, is easily one of the top 5 best games, if not the best game, ever made!
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Jeremy would have been glad to hear that another fan of the older games had watched. Jeremy’s dad
Days away from 2020 and this game is still fun to play. This is the second walkthrough I have used from SaikyoMog. He was a talented gamer.
