    These low kicks are serious business. I remember a training session where I was holding a Muay Thai suitcase pad low so my friend could drill his low kicks. My calf and ankle were black & blue for over a week…..and that was just from holding a pad. Ouch.

      I didn't realize how bad leg kicks hurt until I started training in Muay Thai. I hear people say that leg kicks can't be THAT painful, and I roll my eyes. A meat club is swinging into your thigh, and they think that's not gonna hurt? Lol

      @@diegogatjens1728 Nah, you still need to have good a good boxing foundation for Thai boxing. There have been plenty of amazing Muay Thai fighters that finish fights with their hands. Also, you need good boxing work to set up your kicks.

    Doesn't matter how much spirit or tenacity you have. If you physically can't stand up you lose. I've always been surprised we don't see this more in the pro MMA world, it always seems like such an effective and ruthless way to chip away at your opponent without them even knowing 💯

      Well, because in MMA there's always the threat of takedown. A kick can open the opportunity for a takedown. You have to set up the kick or kick fast enough (ala Jose Aldo or Edson Barboza). Not to mention if someone can properly check your kick, painful... 😬

    5:06 I think this one is a case of Pettas having better shin conditioning. Varga was checking or at least attempting to check all of these low kicks, and the final one seemed to land mostly on the shin-but the pain was too much as his legs weren't as conditioned as Pettas.

      The 2001-2006 period was a renaissance for Goodridge, as he not only won some of his most significant victories in these years but also developed as a fighter. • @houseofmouseboxer490
      @houseofmouseboxer490  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's a fair question! The gist of it is that you're using a hard part of your body to strike a soft part of the opponent's body. Low kicks are delivered with the tibia (shinbone) to the opponent's quadriceps (thigh muscles) or triceps (calf muscles). Bone-on-bone contact would, of course, be tougher.

      After K-1 president Kazuyoshi Ishii was imprisoned for financial crimes in 2003, his company was acquired by the new FEG promotional firm. By the end of the decade, FEG had major financial problems and eventually couldn't pay its fighters. It went bankrupt in 2012, and subsequent owners haven't been able to afford the huge international tournaments.

      I get that. Technique, training and experience make a major difference in how well you handle low kicks, but the fact remains that the biggest muscle on your body is also one of your opponent's biggest targets. Ray Sefo's a good example of a great kickboxer who was still vulnerable to low kicks.

      Moving your leg out of the way is one option, but you can't rely on it all the time. You can't just avoid a low kick when Ernesto Hoost is kicking from the clinch. Other fighters use their kicks as counter-strikes, and you can't just move your leg if you're already in the middle of throwing your own strike.

      Even if that were the case, this isn't like playing a video game. Effective strikes to the lower body require as much training as any other technique; you don't press a button and automatically throw a good low kick. There's no shortage of footage featuring ineffective leg-kickers who'd sooner earn a knockout by hitting their opponent with a pillow.
