I lived in Tokyo for eight years at the height of K1, I watched these shows on Japanese TV with friends and family...great memories. Unlike America where everything is money money money...they showed these fights for FREE on open airways. Thanks for the effort and fights!
K1 world GP in Tokio was the pinnacle of martial arts. I'm Dutch and here it was also available on TV, and usually, someone from the Netherlands won so that was pretty awesome. Good memories!

I read an account of when Peter Aerts learned of the death of Andy Hug, Peter burst into tears and was inconsolable for hours. So much respect he had for his fellow competitor. Fitting that Hug is in Aerts' number one spot.
Absolutely one of the best kickboxers in history. His kicks were so versatile, and effective at any range. They were also extremely deceiving. It's amazing that he has a top 20 best knockout list. He sure has messed up a lot of dudes!

Honestly though throughout the years there have been many greats but i can say without a tinted fanboy perspective that in the olden K1 days the Dutch truly did rule the sport. Without any exaggeration at some point it was true that 12 out 13 champions had been Dutch.
I watched the active era of arts in real time, but there was an aura-like thing that I was not likely to lose, and the feeling of planning was outstanding. I don't think there are any heavyweight kickboxers coming out that are so strong. A player loved by the Japanese who supported the golden age of the K1 heavyweight division.
