      Completely agree! I refuse to do cargo runs with all the 30k's that happen. Don't want to waste 2-3 hours of work and 1-2mil aUEC+ becuase CIG can't fix the dang 30k problems. It's truly a shame that after all this time of dealing with the 30k crashes that they won't invest in fixing the issue. It's certainly not like they haven't made enough damn money off the community.

    • @arstulex

      @@robertlkeltner4085 It's not that they don't care about cargo running, it's because they want people to test things other than cargo running.
      This is the reason they nerf and buff aUEC rewards for other types of gameplay too. To incentivised people to try, and thus test, the things that they want to be tested.
      I like cargo running as much as the next guy, but even I'll admit that me raking in millions QTing back and forth between two points isn't contributing anything of value as far as playtesting goes.

  • @OddballsHobbyChannel
    @OddballsHobbyChannel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    I can understand all your points and I agree with them however I am still going to stick with the M2.
    First of all the most stupid reason (objectively speaking): The name I want to give it. I have a name in mind for the ship, but fluff wise it needs to be on the military variant, not the civilian.
    Second: my friends, I have a few friends who want to get into SC later on when the game is more fleshed out (atleast a few systems to fly around in) but they will never spend what I will spend. However I still want to be able to do things with these friends in 1 ship and earn a bit of aUEC in the process. The M2 with it's extra crew seat makes it a ship for 3 instead of 2 which for a small group of friends can be an important thing to have.
    Third: The armor. Even though we don't have armor now I am a firm believer in that armor will make a significant difference later on and that having heavy armor will be enough to make attacking the M2 just not worth the effort for many players/griefers/pirates etc.
    Fourth: I don't mind carrying a little bit less cargo, and yes, in terms of what other kind of ships will fly in the verse in the future that 150scu is nothing.
    I get that the carrack is, on paper, a better ship. But I just don't feel any enthousiasm for it. I have flown it during the IAE when you could rent it for free and even though it has lots of features it just wasn't it. Couple that with the fact that the M2 can still be flown effectively solo and that for the Carrack you should be with atleast 3 (for either left/right or top/bottom turrets) and that was reason enough for me to skip the Carrack.

      Not to mention, none of those things are in game yet. Might as well get the M2, and as those features get added on, then consider upgrading to a Carrack if it's a better fit. The pilot controlled guns, even on such a huge and ponderous ship, are not to be overlooked.

      Sorry, but the Carrack only needs one person for cargo runs. Even if being attacked, your shields and hull are strong enough to give you plenty of time to jump away. And the Carrack is big enough that EMP's does nothing to it. Plus, the Carrack is fast enough to out-run most ships anyway. I know all this because I own a Carrack and this is what I do daily.

    I own the C2, but I also have an M2 and BMM CCU in my buybacks for it, 'just in case' I see some reason to justify an upgrade when they end up in game. Having had a HH for over a year (placeholder for the Polaris), I believe the Armor and Shield value of the Military Variant will certainly justify an upgrade. I'm just waiting for the opportunity to try it for myself, first hand in the verse before I commit.

  • @DanakarEndeel
    @DanakarEndeel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I already owned a Carrack at the original price. As such I was only mildly interested in the C2 and had a $10 "Merchantman to C2" CCU due to still having access to an original $250 Merchantman. However, then CIG increased the price of the Merchantman to $450; opening up the ability to get a $30 CCU to the M2.
    Through several old CCUs I still had in my account as well as some discounted Warbond CCUs that CIG started offering during the Anniversary Sale I was able to get the Hercules M2 for $195. At that price I figured I might as well go with the M2 instead of the C2.
    Now I had hoped that for the sheer price difference (+$120) between the C2 and M2 that the M2 would have received more than just a single extra turret and some armor (at the cost of 25% cargo). The difference between the Starfarer and Starfarer Gemini was just +$40 yet the Gemini received larger guns on all manned turrets, heavier armor, an additional missile launcher, stronger thrusters, also at the cost of 25% cargo capacity.
    So yeah, for their original pricetags none of the Hercules variants are worth the money; but if you really want one I guess the C2 would be the best as it at least offers you the most cargo space. In my case I was able to get a massive discount thanks to various discounted CCUs and that's the only reason why I chose to go with the M2. 😉

      I've got an M2 and he really summed me up right at the end... "a simple space trucker planning to work some dangerous space and only have one ship to work it in." But I disagree with his comparison to the Carrack. The crew requirements are a significant difference and the lack of any pilot controlled weaponry is a big deal for someone who is planning on mostly running solo (yes, I know AI blades are coming, and I can't wait, but having SOME guns for the pilot is a peace of mind thing, regardless of how unwieldy the ship handles... I scored some seriously desperate defensive kills flying solo on the Starfarer when I had it as a loaner). Either way, really looking forward to them!

      If you already own an M2 it's not a bad thing. Both videos I've done on this is with information that we have, and it's possible either the C2 has less cargo or the M2 more - keeping in mind the C2 did have extra cargo space on the top deck but it wasn't 200 SCU worth either. They have the same cargo deck so there shouldn't be a dramatic difference like there is.

    Well you left out very valuable information. The C2 and M2 both carry two Tonks but, that extra cargo space equal more vehicles with those tanks like say 2 Ursa or 4 cyclones. Meaning a a drop force of Mobile infantry is possible with the C2 and only a very small and under protected armored caravan is possible with the M2. In a situation where another Org is paying your Trans Company to deliver there Ground Forces Troops and Mobile Infantry to the Ground, the M2 would be point Less if you Own two Cutty Blacks, A Valkyrie, a MSR, and the C2. Let me explain. The first three ships can deliver an Ursa Rover full of 6 people, 2 cyclone TR with three,2 dragonflies with crew for scouting, and 32 troops as the first to hit the ground. Followed by a MSR with either an Ursa Rover laden with crew or two cyclones of your choice like the RN and AA ( aa/Base- AA/AA), while finally the C2 lands as the last craft with one Ballista, Tonk, and 4 more MT in tow or any other variant you can think of. Thats literally a 100+ man fighting force of significant size and the M2 is not needed because the LZ was cleared before it even got there.

    • @OddballsHobbyChannel
      @OddballsHobbyChannel 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The way the rumours are now is that the actual cargo bay where you store your vehicles is the same for the M2 and C2. So the C2 can't carry more vehicles then the A2. Also the M2 get's actual seats for the crew of the vehicles which, with the ever expanding force reaction in the game can become quite a significant thing.
      Where in the space the M2 has it's extra seats (and the A2 it's gunner seats), the C2 will carry extra cargo.

    I agree with you, but one thing I have in my mind is that the Starlifter series is really made for planetary military exercises. Means, you can fly probaly much better or stable with the Starlifter series in the atmosphere AND attack much better ground targets (what ever it is) compared to a carrack (since as you said the turrets looking down). • @Leadnap
      @Leadnap  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not - and not being modular is the reason the Hercs have the advantage in capacity over say the Cat which is modular. Bombers are reverse convertibles - you're removing hull integrity to put holes in for things to fall out. If you then put a ton of weight over that modification things would break.
      It's a bomber, in lore it's rare. It's probably the only bombing ship CIG ever gives us - justifying it's horrendous price.

    Something often discussed in our org discord, is that we will need methods to make lots of money to pay for these ships running costs. We won't be able to simply be able to fly a Kraken all day, and not have some type of income, as we won't likely be making an income with the Kraken on its own. There's plenty of ships that are going to be this way. Similar to how it's not worth running HH bounty missions in a Retaliator, as you eat up all your profits in torps, repair, and fuel (and later you may need crew), you need to have a ship that's an efficient moneymaker to support your fleet, factoring all the running costs, including crew. The game we have, is not the game we'll end up with, and we need to plan for the end game, not the alpha.

    If i had to only go with a Hercules it would be the base cargo variant due to price and earn everything else in game. nice vid

    I actually got myself the A2. I wanted a "military" big boi with big guns and that bomber idea coupled with the AC-130 flavor and the edgy colors got me to buy it. The plan is to see what it looks like and how it feels like once it hits release and depending on that I might swap it for another real big boi on next sale.

      I wonder if it will be a viable gunship in space if you make make it so your bottom turrets face your target as much as possible, either by rolling or decoupling. Could also stick a tonk in the back for an extra rear turret haha.

  • @ArcaneWorkshop
    @ArcaneWorkshop 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another case for the M2:
    The added chin turret can cover your ground vehicles as they are exiting through your front ramp.
    You can land right in a hot LZ, take more fire with the added armor, and the chin gunner can take care of threats on the ground.
    They seem to have shyed away from anything "modular", but I do hope they revisit some of it on the Hercules series, because that giant vehicle bay has so much potential.

    Hm. You made me thinking about it again. I’m actually more into the white color of the C2 and prefer a civilian-like ship. But as much as I heard from the nyx system, it’s going to be a dangerous place. But the thing is, if I have cargo stored and I’m getting attacked, I’ll try to fly away and not to fight in my massive ship. Also I’m short on money. Before I watched your video I was pretty sure I’ll buy the M2, but now you made me save a few bucks. Thank you!

    I have both the C2 & M2. Carrack won't be able to carry the Tonk if the sizes are correct. Plus the C2/M2 can be used as a pocket carrier for snubs and Dragonfly's allowing it to be able to be used for looting if you wished. Lots of options for the C2/M2. Can't wait for it's release.

  • @Jahru

  • @merlark
    @merlark 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would also agree that the C2 is the best bang for the buck, while like most people I always enjoy a ship with more armor and guns the star lifter itself has a rather unique design in that most of the firepower is in the back...which makes sense because in a fight you want to get out of there and use those big engines to power away and those guns will keep any light and quick ship that can keep up with you not want to stay behind you while you leave those slower heavier gun slugs in the dust.
    That nose turret just doesn't have much use, its under the nose so can only really shoot directly ahead and side to side. The pilot already has some guns to help clear the way already and I don't think you'll be able to keep the nose at a target long enough to really cause allot of damage. So for that loss in cargo and hike in price...if your looking for a better/faster caterpillar with more defense and speed with a bonus of more cargo...for the price the C2 seems like a great upgrade.
    As the game evolves we might see atmosphere flight to be less needed for cargo hauling but until then the ability to land on planets is king and the star lifter...well, it lifts things.

    Good video but I have to say that you are overlooking a few things about the M2.
    1) It has a dedicated Jump seat section in its hangar to allow transportation of not only tonks, but troops/and tonk crew as well. The M2 is the only of the three variants to have this. Yes. This matters. Maybe not today, but it will in the futur as force reactions keep expanding and not being properly seated during a bumpy ride may equal to injury or death. this makes the C2 a terrible choice for that the M2 is really about: Transporting not just Armored vehicules. But rather an armored vehicule FORCE (with its crew etc...) Ready to deploy, ready to battle the moment it exists the ship.
    The C2 can transports these same vehicules. yes. But transporting it with their crew safely in a hot zone? Different story.
    2) The extra turret placed right above the frontal hangar door. (Aka, the exit point). Not a coincidence. Say you land in a hot zone. And you have an anti Tank infantry unit with Rail guns etc.... All they have to do is wait outside the Hangar door, and when they open. The tonks are sitting duck ready to blow up. That turret is there to prevent that. It can preventively clear the area for the vehicules and troops to be deployed safely. Something the C2 can't do.
    And of course the armor but you did mention that.
    The M2's role is VERY clear. It's not to just deploy tanks, it's to deploy a ground attack force in the middle of a hot zone. Something the C2 is very ill equipped for .
    it's really simple. Not sure why your making is complicated as it needs to be.
    Want trade only? Or perform org logistics in safe zones? Take the C2.
    Want to deploy Ground assault forces in hot zones? M2. Hands down.
    Want to drop MOABs? A2.
    There. Simple. No theory crafting required. All boils to what you want to do with the ship. Now "which one is the best". That's relative to what you want to use it for.
    Your argument only hold ground if you look at this purely on a trading/logistic perspective. When the M2 and A2 were clearly not made with that in mind. That's what the C2 is for. Making the entire debate true, but ultimately pointless.

    _"You only need the C2."_
    Hah! No. Nobody needs _any_ Hercules Starlifter. They look awesome, the C2 and M2 seem like they fill a niche to conduct landing zone to landing zone cargo hauls, and I personally look at the C2 and warm to the idea of having one. But it's not needed. Upon analysis, the Hercules Starlifter line all look like one-trick ponies, so as much as I like the look of them I also find myself questioning the wisdom of acquiring a ship that does "that one thing" really well.
    Plus I keep my wallet closed. 😂 It's easy to get the ship of my dreams when the ship of my dreams is "the investment that is squarely inside my self-imposed spend limit." 🧐 (AKA much smaller than a Hercules Starlifter)

    It really depends on the playstyle, and this current version of the game cannot realize all of them. The C2 is the only relevant one right now. However, I went for the M2, for I already have the best Hercules. The Carrack. If ground bases had turrets, NPCs, standing guns, and AA missiles then the A2 becomes relevant. For the M2 to be relevant, slaved turrets need to be a thing. I agree the C2 is the best right now, for cargo is the only real gameplay, but I play solo alot.

    I bought the C2 but the M2 is a very attractive alternative on paper. I looked at it this way: If you are buying a heavy transport/tank carrier you are likely not alone and should have escorts so get the max capability of the ships role especially if spending real cash for it. It will also have more utility until the game expands in features and needs for supporting large ground combat ops is relevant. In that scenario having escorts is not likely a problem. The A2's role is not interesting to me and too niche for real cash. I'll buy one later with in-game money if that changes or be a crew member on someone else's A2.

    I am one of the few that falls under the type at the end of the video (mostly solo trader, never going to get Carrack due to how many others have one and prefer crewing on one to owning) bought an M2 upgrade from the Banu Merchantman just in case that worthy ship gets altered by CIG in the wrong direction, or they continue to let trading languish, and in that case I am OK with upgrading to an M2 and paying more again in the future for a BMM when a real trading economy is implemented.
    I value having some solo defensive/offensive capabilities, and get decent cargo capacity, a unique crew seating area for vehicle transport and especially RACE or even possibly fleet battle boarding ops, and the one thing an M2 might be able to do better than a C2 withe the extra guns and armor is act as a pocket carrier, of which we don't really have one, especially at that price point. I guarantee people will put fighters in the C2 and M2 as they only non capital ship with a pass through bay, allowing for some serious multirole play, which is long overdue.

    I think it really depends on what you are looking for when it comes to the Herc, each has their uses, if you want to transport Cargo then yes the C2, for vehicles (and base prefabs once they come into the game) then the M2, and for a dedicated gunship then an A2, though a Hammerhead or Perseus might be more useful.
