My biggest takeaway? Aspire to have this kind of relationship with my own daughter. Thanks!

As a single parent, job gaps can be very stressful. And the job search can be long. Be careful, best advice is a good emergency fund and balance drive w/ some enjoyment. Breathe a breath of relief when you find a job.

Awesome episode, thank you and your dad so much for a great energy and life advice. Maybe “success beer” would a good name. We do whatever we are up to and then drink a beer, no matter if it is successful or not it is an experience, learning opportunity we should celebrate😃

I do like the idea of the gaps and taking time to enjoy them, but I also think it’s important to realize that not everyone has that luxury. Some people are desperate for a job because their financial situation really might be desperate, whether it’s because of kids, medical bills, a mortgage, school loans, or whatever. I don’t think we should look down on people just because they need to make money.

To comment on being warry of getting a "because of" answer to why you left your previous job, what if your contract ended? I just wrapped up my going back to school journey and I did an internship that was for a fixed length of time. They couldn't keep me because they don't have the budget to hire until the fall, but I've been encouraged to apply when they post if I'm looking. I didn't want to leave and would have jumped at an offer to stay. Why I left is because my contract ended.

Was the family still in the funeral business when you were growing up? Growing up in and around the business certainly makes for an interesting childhood. I would have stayed in the field myself, except I ended up securing a civil service job and moving on and up from there.

Erin. I’m scared of corporate America by this point , management can be so toxic. Have you had such experiences and how did you overcome it?

Some of his advice is a bit 'okay boomer' particularly regarding interest rates - 15% in 1983 is very different to today's situation - but otherwise, some good points!

True, and some of my advice is a bit 'okay millennial' - it's important to speak to other generations with empathy and curiosity. I'm actually very impressed with the amount of open-mindedness and compassion he has towards young people today!
