The Bridge is being submerged, back to the depths from whence it came.

  • This video is about Baitings reservoir West Yorkshire. The low waters of the dry summer and drought of 2022 famously revealed an old pack horse Bridge from the sunken depths. As well as the bridge being revealed an old former dam was revealed. We go back in a re visit to see the reservoir waters now rising and all the features disappearing under water again. We discover an old photograph of the former Baitings intake Dam from the 1920's and see the pack horse bridge looking eerie as it is engulfed by water. The hidden old remains are being covered.

One thing which never ceases to amaze me is how quickly nature reclaims its own. The grass that grew on those banks has been waiting patiently for the right conditions to emerge once more. Going back to bed now, but merely sleeping until the water recedes again.
People worry about the world, and human impact upon it, but nature has no fear, and long after humankind has gone, nature will still be here, and will still be reclaiming that which human beings have taken for their own ends.

It was an exceptionally dry summer, but the reservoirs did what they were designed for and secured our water supply. At least here in Merseyside we didn't have a hosepipe ban, so we weren't in any direct danger of running out of water.
As Trekking Exploration showed in his latest video on Ladybower Reservoir, the levels are rising quickly now, in just a few days time, it was back up to where it was in September. It will still take a while for it to be back to normal though.

There's just something fascinating about buried and submerged lost history. I was doing some work in my back yard last week - one of our trees came down - and as I was digging, I found the remains of an old well. After some research, I found it was part of the original property when the house was built in the 1850s! Makes sense, because across the road - there's a housing development there, now - used to be a swamp and a stream. Now, the question is - if that's where everyone got their fresh water, where did they have their outhouses? There's always treasures in those pits! I want to find that!
