- On December 12, 2021, the Friends of the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Farm, Inc. presented an in-person interview with Claude Jarman, Jr., who played Jody in The Yearling movie (MGM, 1946). The interview was part of the events making up its "The Yearling Movie Celebrates 75 Years with Claude Jarman, Jr.” The interview was conducted by Donna Green-Townsend and took place at the historic Marion Theatre in Ocala, Florida. Claude discussed his memories of the making of the movie, including his discovery by director Clarence Brown, working with Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman, and the vissitudes (heat, rain and bugs) of filming The Yearling in the Big Scrub in Marion County, Florida. Also introduced was Bobby Randall, who was Claude’s double/stand-in for the filming.
They really chose the right little boy to play Jodie. Such a wonderful actor, very convincing, he had me in tears throughout the movie.
Claude Jarman was the whole show !
Wow, unbelievable. At 83 yrs, he is such a handsome man. Thank you again...
I loved the movie so much.
Thank you for posting this.
What a lovely man.
Oh! How I loved little Jody and his deep love for his little yearling fawn, Flag. 😢
Iove this film forever. ❤❤❤
Fantastic gentleman. The quality of that film is a tribute to all who worked so hard on it. Claude was an unforgettable Jody.
For a first time actor in a movie. Wow the emotion hes able to show is just incredible
Would have loved to see him as a guest star in Falcon Crest !
It's astounding to me how much Claude still looks like his 10 year old self...wonderful presentation. Thank you!
For the first time l saw this movie, l wept when he had to shoot a deer, Mr. Jarman is still very handsome and l can recognize a little boy Jody in him. Very gifted boy actor.
I loved it when the moderator asked the audience members to silence their cell phones and 86-yr old Mr. Jarman dutifully pulled his own cell phone from his pocket to silence it! Still taking direction like a consummate professional.
THANK YOU so much for posting this wonderful interview!!
This is so cool, one of my favorite movies and books
Nice hearing Claudes perspective. Thanks!
This was Great!!! Thank you so much for posting this!
Great movie and book, I did a book report on it in school, I aced the test, I couldn't put the book down it was a great read and I rarely read a book from start to end, later I saw the movie, it was awesome
My childhood best book.
Great movie. No greater performance from a child actor. Claude was perfect as Jody.
Freddie Bartholomew in Captains Courageous (1937) was greater.
He has the same eyes/view, how in his Childhood.
Hi, I'm m-t-f transgender, and my new first name is Jody, I an ardent animal lover so this movie was such appealling to me. I had read the original 1938 hardback edition running 33 chapters at a boarding school in Deven, the word n***** had crept in often in the novel, which would be deemed extremely offensive now! Also I had later read the paperback edition. Finally, I'm of an extremely of an introverted nature, other people can be a pain-in-the-butt which is why Jody's Ma and Pa had up sticks and moved away for peace and quiet.
Get on with it. This woman LOVES to hear herself speak. Just feature Mr Jarman already
No other photography allowed lol. What a funny Nazi from a different time. Very cute
