I'm excited about linux on x elite laptops primarily because the battery life is wonderful on windows and could be enhanced even more by linux optimizations.
What annoys/worries me about ARM is that they generally don't bother implementing a UEFI system, even though this is standard on x86. The result is that individual chipsets need explicit support from distro maintainers - It leads to super spotty support for ARM chipsets and devices when on x86 I've never had to bug a distro to support my specific device beyond improving drivers. Also means upgrading is a lot harder because, unlike x86, I can't necessarily boot into a given ISO on my new chipset. This goes for RISCV too, sadly. It's the one thing that makes me think twice about any ARM device I see, knowing that they all risk someday becoming ewaste because of the gargantuan effort necessary to support them -- Imagine how many phones would still be useful if they were easier to maintain OS images for!
Bingo, I kinda do not care on phones because I personally hate phones I only use them for text messaging and basic stuff, but I love pc. I do my work and entertainment on a pc, I don't want to stop receiving updates on a device that does the important things.
If you really need to get a snapdragon maybe wait until at least 2025. I don’t know why people assume Linux support would be immediate or automatic. Things take time. Microsoft has a monetary incentive to make windows work ahead of time but this is open source.
Qualcomm showed Debian on their own internal demo laptops. Qualcomm partnered with Linaro, to get Linux running on the X Elite. But yes, Tuxedo also expects to start shipping in 2025. With a bit of luck end of 2024.
We have become so spoiled in the Linux community in recent years, Linux will run on a potato, so they are soft. Us neck beards that have been using Linux since before it was fashionable rember ye olde days when it wasn't so.
Tuxedo and Snapdragon? Yes please! Hopefully they are going to bring some laptops with 16-17 inches display, too! At the moment they have far too many 13th and 14th gen Intel which are very problematic, along with Nvidia.. not a great combo at all. I was actually looking on their page for a future purchase in early 2025. Great news.
Test again the FileSystems please with custom tuned kernels such as the CachyOS kernel with the Intel patches etc etc etc plz !! Add test of Microsoft filesystems. They are going to be faster on Windows than the Linux ones on Linux :)

Thanks DJ. It's something to look forward to.
Any time!
This is a good time to learn the process of supporting devices in linux, but in a simplified way for tech guys in the other fields and general users

@@jorge86rodriguez Exactly, and imagine how much more useful phones would be if it wasn't constantly being obsoleted by shoddy software support.

@@WhimsicalArtisan linux is garbage.
Gutted windows iso is king.
MacOS stomps.
@@PKperformanceEU did you hit your head or something?

Thank you so much for this summary! I have and love my snapdragon X elite laptop but cant wait for linux support.
Love your content DJ, always excited when you post something new & share your 2 cents. Keep up the great work my man 💪
" That dog don't hunt " . At least not yet. Like you said and other commenters, better wait a year or longer.
awesome channel

and of course they can play all bsd games in native mode.
Brilliant thumbnail from a classic meme of the past 😂😂😂
👍Thanks DJ!
Intel became the Boeing of CPU, but does ARM become the AIRBUS?
LOL, I think at present its more like Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk, will it even fly is the first question I have :)

I just put together an 8 core ARM desktop in a mini ITX form factor. That'll do me for ARM for the foreseeable future.
What brand/reseller? I'm interested in one.
@@LMB222 Radxa Rock 5 ITX. I got the model with 24GB of ram. Explaining Computers did a build a couple weeks ago.
ARM will probably be the first to unlock the holy grail of superconductors. Still a long way to go though.
I will wait at least 2 more years before buying an arm laptop
In two years from now there will be something better in two years.
@@vincei4252 yes I meant that actually
@@VEKTOR_87 LMAO. That's exactly what I was thinking too 😆
By then, there could also be a stable version of the COSMIC desktop environment.
@@ettoreatalan8303 cosmic seems cool I hope it's stable by then 😁
Just get rid of Copilot and the NPU and I'll gladly buy me one, even if it doesn't run Crysis.
