Hi I’m Gabby of Granite Mountain Fiber Co.! Thank you so much for sharing my yarn and pattern and your kind words! It was so great to meet you at Greencastle!
When I heard the ecipse would occur and saw the map of its path-I immediately thought of you. I knew this would be your jam. One thought: most scientific information and events comes filtered to me-through news, others pictures, etc. The eclipse I got to experience without any filters. Just me watching the dance of moon and sun (and eyewear). Unfiltered science I felt part of made the experience so much greater for me. Thanks for another great podcast. Informative, funny, and enjoyable. ravelry: Stclairian (resident of St Clair MI)
My dream came true-- we installed two cattle panels in our garden on Sunday and planted peas and beans last night! I’ve been plotting and planning for years and it finally happened!
Love your Academic vest! Also a big Merlin Bird ID app fan here. We met last week at Greencastle and should definitely get together for some knitting and bird-listening! ☺️
I love my cattle panels for both arches and length wise for tomatoes and cucumbers (and we use them as animal fencing as well). If you end up moving forward with your plans for cattle panels, my wife and i have developed a pretty good system for transporting them. My wife has had to teach her tricks to the TSC employees lol! You and i met at SSK last year. I'm friends with Leslie (and Laura of course), so if you want to chat about transporting huge sheets of metal, ask Leslie for Christine's contact info. Happy garden season! I consider all gardening to be experimental. There are many variables that are outside of your control, so why not embrace it? If something doesn't work, there's always (usually) next year to do it differently. Sometimes I feel like it's a miracle I get anything to grow, but plants are tenacious and want to grow, so they do most of the heavy lifting.
You recommended The Myth of Normal. I just finished it. There was a lot to mull over and it stretched my thinking. I like hearing about what you are reading.
Ugh, yes the vision thing. I think we're similar ages and my eyes just keep changing and I'm never happy with my prescription. Your green glasses are very fun though!
Um, listening to your podcast and sketching owls and you mentioned owls. 😳 Yay for seed potatoes! 👏 At some point I’m going to need to do a deep dive into your channel seeing as though I’m a relative newcomer to your channel. Also, got my first cattle panels this year. Eeeeee!!! Hubby and I rented a Uhaul van to transport them. 😅 Okay, I’m just sitting here continually editing this post 🤔 Do the panels! It’s so easy and worth it! Saying a 🙏 for your partner re his job.
"It's intarsia.. it's fingering weight.." Then your deep sigh! lol. I feel you!! I saw the Neon Bliss recently and went through the same reckoning :) We'll see if I have the gumption next winter.
"Modestly meaningful life". Yes, THIS. It's okay to feel like a speck of dust in the universe, knowing in your immediate galaxy, sometimes you're a planet and sometimes you're the sun.
Omg yes I want to do the cattle panel archway as well. I’m obsessed with wanting that. Lol we just bought some larger land and have just a mini garden growing. I’m so ready for a nice one.
We pay a guy. They were done in February. I didn’t sent the checks out until 4/13 though. We owed one state and the fed…the state I work(Ed) in payed us. Our tax guy said it was best if I didn’t work anymore. I really like him. 😂
We bit the bullet and got galvanized steel containers. We laid heavy duty landscapers paper down and the filled the containers with our compost. Then filled the paths with mulch so we are dry. We live in the suburbs so we need to conserve space. I love picking fresh from our garden. I agree it's expensive starting out especially if you have crap dirt. I love watching things grow. So happy you feel the same. One year we grew blue corn. That was fun. Keep going sweetie. Your the best!!
Another very fun podcast Amy! Thank you! BTW, can you recommend a good, easy to understand resource for modifying the body length of knitted sweater and vest patterns? I have a long torso, and would love to learn at what point I should lengthen the distance between shoulder and underarm, and underarm to waist, and how to do this if increases or decreases are in the way. See you again, and happy gardening!
Amy Herzog is my typical recommendation for sweater mods. I don’t know that they are necessarily easy, but she will take you beyond the typical advice of “knit more rows”
These are older books, but 2 of my favorites about growing your own food. Look them up. Barabara Kingsolver's "Animal, Vegetable, Mineral" and Spring Warren's "Quarter Acre Farm."
I loved “Animal, Vegetable, Mineral” when I read it (eeep!) 15 years ago. I should really check ilout the audio version from my library this summer…..I haven’t read the other, but I’m adding it to the queue!
There’s so many things that I want to comment about on here. The first is thank you. You make every episode interesting and enjoyable. I also have the Merlin app and find it the best thing since sliced bread and I’m not even a real birder. I really do enjoy learning about the different sounds and the different birds what those sounds might mean, I hope that others can learn about Marilyn through you again thank you
I’m not a real birder either! I have wanted to know how to identify by sound for a very long time, but I’m quite bad at remembering sounds (hence my constant pronunciation gaffes). I’m hoping this newish feature might help tie the sound into other memory systems? Anyway, it’s fun even if it doesn’t.
I’ll never stop saying it, but Landreth’s green beans are the best, most delicious, crunchy fresh green beans. We can barely get them cooked because we can’t stop eating them off the vine.
I am so glad you love your green beans. I should definitely try that variety as I confess I am from the “Appalachian cook those beans until they are army green” heritage.
@@fatsquirrelfibersI grew up that way too, but my husband and kids all prefer raw vegetables, it’s basically become a stockholm situation. It now surprises me when we have company for dinner and they comment on our “vegetable tray” side of just raw veggies. Meanwhile I’m talking up having steamed carrots like it’s some kind of fancy foreign cuisine. 😂
I'm very happy to hear that you will be including more book reviews as I have found them to be both thoughtful and entertaining. Could you please slow down when reading the synopses?
I took the day off to see the eclipse. I was in the path of totality, and it was the coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time!! It was almost hidden by clouds, because tx in the spring. I didn’t feel insignificant, but it did feel wondrous! It was wonderful to watch it with you!
It does…This designer uses a fingering weight single ply superwash merino, and I also I tried a plied merino/nylon sock yarn….Both were very smooth. If it’s helpful she said they are roughly euivalenr to 2 strands of the Valdani perle cotton 12.
We’ve done the wire grid arch to grow our pumpkins on and it’s worth it! My mom found a wire grid roll thing at Home Depot that is easy to transport and my Dad cut to size. We also use it for our pea/broad bean fencing.

So I got a visual of pumpkins being supported by Playtex bras. Lift and separate😂

Ooooh, maybe we need a stitching/birding circle….Of course, we might scare the birds away.
“Modestly meaningful life” oh I loooove that! Thank you for the book talk, this one is definitely going on my library holds list.
Love Merlin! It's so cool. Camped in kentucky last night and it identified 17 birds in one hour
Your vest looks amazing! Great job! Always great to visit with you. 😊
Thank you for another great video. I love spending time with you. I literally find everything you talk about of interest to me!! Thank you so much😊

Ooh, thank you for the knowledge share!

Amy, your book reviews A+! Also, “Why is he mowing?” LOL 😂.

I have thought about punch needle with yarn for ages. I cannot wait to see how you do with it.
I love the Merlin app!!!

I am so excited for your gardening potential!
I’m so glad that you found 4000 Weeks enjoyable. It’s the kind of book I will also return to to remind myself of the ‘yes!’ moments 😁
Plants need a base tan?! I just saw Granite Mountain at my local Fiber festival and had to buy from her. Great colors

I'm so glad I know how to pronounce Katadin now! Thank you! I probably just spelled it wrong.

I am so tempted by all the galvanized beds that are coming out! I hope they work really well for you!
Try the Itch to Stitch Belleville Barrel Jeans. They are fantastic. You may have to make some waist alterations.
Those are very cute!
Just 😂 to the ‘list’ perfect patterns, and perfect noise!
Amy Beth, your pants and stranded colour top are ❤FABULOUS!!!😂❤😊🎉 GORGEOUS!
Oh thank you!
I really enjoyed this episode! And, I have 2 new Audio books to enjoy! Oh and I discovered the Merlin app last summer. Wonderful! Thanks!

i love reading and enjoy your thoughts on different books. i agree with you that steel containers make great garden accessories..

Primitive wool rug hooking starts very expensive, I have all of the tools, but very worth it's weight.

I love your face

I will take that request into consideration. I feel a bit self conscious about reading them, so it probably amps my speed up a bit.
a dream book is : blood bones and butter by chef Gabrielle Hamilton . it covers all the life
Added it to my library queue!
If you can’t walk under your trellis, do you even have a trellis?! 😂😂

That vest turned out so well!! It’s looks fabulous on you!
I don't think there is such a thing as too much Amy Beth face ❤❤❤
I also want to needle punch with my fingering weight yarn but had no idea if the punch would work with wool
It does…This designer uses a fingering weight single ply superwash merino, and I also I tried a plied merino/nylon sock yarn….Both were very smooth. If it’s helpful she said they are roughly euivalenr to 2 strands of the Valdani perle cotton 12.
Love the academic vest \(^-^)/
Who has pantyhose anymore? Female lawyers unfortunately. 🤚
Ugh. I am really sorry…I worked for an accounting firm ~13 years and they required pantyhose at that time which I thought was absolutely ludicrous.
Thanks for the bird app! I have been looking for something like that. Can't wait to try it! 🧶🧶🧶

Oooh! I was worried that the rolled fencing might not be strong enough…I will investigate what we have on offer!
