Excellent mate, looks a brilliant and light way to rove about and cover a lot of ground in the process, couple of cracking looking chub there and some lovely footage too.
First surface lure fish I ever caught was a river Nene chub, using a jitterbug type lure, totally unexpected as I was after pike !!! Cast out,let the current take it towards a raft of debris and started the retrieve..........wham bam........one of the most viscious takes I`ve ever had on a surface lure !!! Excellent video, really enjoyed it.
Very enjoyable video George, shows the chubs predatory instinct and it is just as fun as watching a tip go round in my opinion. I have personally had a few on a little repps spinner, biggest 3lb 2oz! Keep the good work up and the match video'll be soon! Tom
Damn that's a big arse bait for chub, I have hard times even with 1g micro lures because chub don't gulp them, they only hit them from the side. I've tried 5cm crank baits with a color combo of gold, green and silver with no result. 2cm*ish gold micro crank gets them going but they don't hit where the hook is. I've also tried natural colors with no result, red color no result either. I've even tried to drop shot a 3cm red mini twister, fish came to check it out and lost interest, same thing with 2cm red rubber maggots. Seems like in crystal clear water chances are pretty slim to get these fish to bite.
chub will hit big baits, iv had them on 4inch topwater spooks a 5cm lure is no problem for half lb+ chub. keep at it and try shallower water in the summer 1-2ft deep 5cm shallow running cranks, you cant go wrong. they have really soft mouths so they dont ususally conme off, if they are just nipping the lure you might be fishing a place that lots of other lure anglers fish
