I second this. This review was a breakdown of all the features I was interested in, and answered all my questions. As someone with a 10th gen kindle. I’ll be upgrading to the signature
Thank you for the awesome comparison. Everything I wanted to know presented with no unnecessary information straight to the point. No other review has come close to yours so far.
If you buy the kids kindle paperwhite (no difference between the normal and kids model) just don't activate kindle kids. There's no adds on the kids version
Yes it's more of a version to buy 1st instead of trading or replacing, or when coming from the older generations. Makes no sense to do that small of a jump (got the 1st batch of Paperwhite 5/11th gen, 8 GB at that, before they made it 16 GB minimum). Feels like an even smaller jump than Paperwhite 3 to 4 (7th to 10th gen).
The new paperwhite is more neutral, which happens to be warmer than the default 'cool' color of the 11th gen. If you put both at the same brightness next to a piece of paper, the 12th gen is much closer to natural white than the 11th, which has an unnatural blue hue to it. I love the new 12th gen
Terrific review of the Kindle Paperwhite 2024 vs 2021. I just received my new (2021) Paperwhite which I purchased on Amazon Prime Day. Immediately following the new 2024 version was released. Although I love the 2021 version, I am conflicted if I should return it (30 day return policy) and purchase the newer 2024 version. Thank you for your time and explanation regarding comparing the two versions!
@@christinac3727 Haven't decided what I will do regarding returning and purchasing the 2024 edition. My 2021 edition seems perfect in all regards......slightly slower page turns is not an issue, and the slightly dimmer screen is not problematic either. Also, Amazon states that any firmware/safety updates continue 4 years past the product ending date......so the newer edition 2024 updates will go further into the future than the older model 2021 edition.......what to do?????
I recently noticed your channel and while your all your reviews are so spot on I must tell you that even YOU are an absolute pleasure to listen to. 🤩🌻Also love the vibe of your house. Kudos to you my friend.🌟🌈 Loads of love from India!!
Very polished and helpful video. How much percentage of improvement is the clarity, blackness, and contrast of the text compared the 11th gen? Another vote of a Kindle Colorsoft review when it's released.
Actually, it is the screen and a bit of the CPU. The screen is mostly the limitation. You could drop a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 behind that display, and it wouldn't refresh that much faster if at all. We see this even on the PC with E-Ink displays. The new Kindle is running the latest generation of E-carta display. The 1200 variant vs the 1000 variant on the older Kindle. The latest 1200 variant has a maximum refresh rate of 20 fps. If you try to push it to the maximum of what it can do. This particular E-Ink display is designed explicitly for E-reader use only. Other varieties of the E-Ink technology that are purpose-built for specific tasks. Some of those you wouldn't want to use as an E-reader display. This is due to either resolution limitations, power consumption reasons, or other factors. Each version has its strengths and weaknesses. E-ink is also being used to replace price tags at retail stores. Retail stores near me have already started transitioning to E-ink price tags. There is no need to print new labels every time the price changes.
Am I the only one who misses the physical buttons? I mainly read in bed, and the Oasis is perfect as I can hold it firmly in one hand, without needing to lift my thumb to turn the page. How does it feel to read with no buttons, while laying? Would any of those who own an Oasis switch for this device? 🤔
I want amazon to bring back the page press buttons from the voyage soooo badly. I use a strap on the back of my kindle so I can hold it easily while laying in bed.
Great review ~ been wondering about this for a while. Boox is my life now. I have the Oasis but the closed ecosystem for kindle vs android is a game changer (if one reads anything other than standard books). Additionally, the included TTS feature on Boox is incredibly helpful.
Good review thank you, helps to actually see how faster the new ones are. I still have a Voyage but I think the differences might be worth upgrading. Plus that raspberry is pretty!
Have you tested if you can still side-load documents from your PC? I used to create long docs in Microsft Word so that I could give them a proper linked index. This means that when you pressed the Menu icon at the top of the page, all your headers were listed - a necessity for a recipe collection
NEVER pay to remove ads. Just chat with customer service and they'll remove it for free. Tell them you didn't notice or it was a gift or something. They do it for free.
I need to flip it next time oops! The metallic version is less of a finger print nightmare because it is smooth and less matte than the standard version.
Great review, thank you. I bought the new Signature Ed a couple of days ago and expect to receive it on Tuesday, so I'm yet to experiencing what it's like. I wish I had known about the colour one due for release later this year tho - I guess by that it means 'in time for xmas'. I would be most grateful to see a review of the colour Kingle when it comes out please. 🇦🇺😎
I bought a kindle earlier this summer and immediately returned it…dark mode for reading at night had a bright flash of light when turning pages. Awful. Does this newer version solve that problem????
Thanks for the video! I have the 2021 Paperwhite too and was sort of torn at the announcement on if I should go for the color or the new Paperweight with the nice contrast and speed improvements, but I ended up falling for the intrigue of color, even just in the library mode and seeing all the covers, it looks so cool. Since I will sometimes enjoy a graphic novel or comic here and there, and I love new tech, I bit the bullet and ordered the Colorsoft. I hope it looks as good in person and I hope it's as fast as the new Paperwhite. Fingers crossed! But yeah please do a video / review on it. I'd watch even though I already bought it LOL.
Yes, please do review the new Colorsoft. It should be great for colour-coding highlights. And it would be good to see a direct comparison between the new Paperwhite and the Colorsoft. Love your style of review from a reader's point of view!
I have to agree I have the boox palma and I love the form factor but I just keep going back to my kindle for the ease of there interface. I am so excited about the new releases. Preordered the colorsoft but im really curious about the paper white and I hear the white on the colorsoft isn’t as vibrant
I, like you have had the older version for several years now. I have 3,000 audible books, and the Signature plays them. The only problem is the volume control. It changes the volume in steps. So if I on volume 2 & can increase the volume to 3. If 3 volume is too loud, I can't I can't drop the volume to 2.5 volume 😎
Is it just me but the speed difference is so subtle and its not like you really need a ebook reader fast anyway since its not an ipad. The microsecond difference in page turning is also not that groundbreaking.
I have a 2018 paperwhite kindle, and it works well! The lag is not so bad like others. The pink signature one is cute, but so is the colored kindle, as I do have mangas in my current kindle. Idk 🤷🏻♀️ what I’ll choose lol. Great video!!
Your video just popped up for me and I really like the review. I have a 2018 (purchased in 2019) paperwhite, and I will get the jade when it goes on sale or it includes some time on free kindle unlimited. I already looked at the colorsoft and don't like the refresh blink/flash (I also don't read manga or comics but it would be nice to see the occasional illustration in color and the covers, of course, but that blinking would drive me nuts)), and decided to get a paperwhite instead. I really appreciate your detail and the fact that you held still long enough (ha ha, not being mean, just humorous) to show that even the 6.8" to 7.0" screen is noticeable, so my 6" to 7" will be a real luxury. Thank you for the time. I gave it a like.
I used to have a case on at all times because I liked the fact it automatically turned on the screen when I opened the cover but now I’ve warmed to having no case. It’s that much easier to hold cause it’s like half as heavy as with the case on.
I have the 2021 paperwhite and the thing that bothers me is the power button located on the bottom. Because I usually read laying down so I constantly turn it off by accident. Does the 2024 one also have this problem?
Yes! It’s so annoying. The head of Amazon hardware said they looked at moving it but they couldn’t. I still think there could have been a better option.
after doing a deep dive and finding that any book you purchase does not belong to you and that amazon can discontinue it at any time, because you are not buying the book you are buying a license to the content and they can take it away at anytime
These are the updated Paperwhite Kindles. They have also released a new Kindle Colorsoft which is basically a "Signature" Edition Paperwhite body with a color screen.
So the ‘Books You May Like,’ and ‘New Releases’ don’t count as ads in the Signature? I hate all that clutter in my older Paperwhite. And I paid for the ‘ad free’ one then. I have always loved my kindle reading experience (I’ve had them since the very first one), but is there any way to get rid of all that? Really, I don’t like Amazon suggesting my reading list.
I have new Kindle Paperwhite Signature, and I'm unable to upload my ebooks from iMac. Is ir any way to make it using usb cable, like in previous generations?
3:25 😅omg yesssss. I actually just changed my case and had to do a nice wipe down. I have sensitive eyes and I like my screens CLEAN. It doesn't help that I like to snack while I binge read🤭
Thanks for sharing this excellent comparison, I really prefer the openness of the boox android ecosystem these days but seeing new Kindles always tempts me 😂. One issue I have with Kindles is I notice over time the OS slows down with updates, I think they do it deliberately so people upgrade but maybe its my cynicism. I already have a 11th gen paperwhite signature so I might wait to see what else releases this year or next.
I’m torn. I just ordered the 11th generation with ads for 100€ instead of 150€, but it’s still on delivery and I didn’t know about the 12th gen. Now I want the new gen 😭 I’ve been reading on my kindle iOS app so far. The 12th gen without ads is 180€. What should I dooooo
You did get a good deal so it might be worth to keep it! On the other hand if you have never had a kindle before it might be fun to have the best on day one... ;)
Yessss love that you’re reading ACOTAR! No shame in it! I haven’t had a Kindle in years (a 2nd gen was gifted to me way back when.) I’m usually a ride or die physical book person, but I’ve been wanting a Kindle! I’m highly considering the new paperwhite, but can’t decide if I want the standard or signature🤔honestly I don’t think the color soft is worth the price but just my opinion. Thank you for the review super helpful!☺️
I had just bought the 11th gen paperwhite a few weeks ago. Come on, the "new features" don't justify a higher price for basically the same kindle paperwhite.
I had just bought the 11th gen paperwhite a few months ago. But I keep my paperwhite 11th be fine, because kindle 12th will be overpriced that 11th paperwhite. But I don't need upgrade until 3 to 5 years as can buy kindle paperwhite
I just read, that if you have a problem with Amazon and they close your Amazon account, you lose everything on your Kindle. Is that true! That would be so sad.
Can you do a video like this with the Scribe? I liked your review and you pointed out some nice details and I would appreciate your opinion on the old and new Scribe devices.
I've got a Paperwhite i bought in 2014 that still works great. I replaced the battery in it but that's it. But I do my reading on my Oasis. I was hoping they were going to update it but I think they're going to stop production. Best e-reader they have ever made and they quit. 😢
I've been wanting to update my 8th gen paperwhite for the beautiful sage green paperwhite but since these newer ones came out I wanted to see if these were better. I will admit, I am slightly disappointed that there's no longer a sage green option, even though that pink one looks beautiful. I'm tempted to see if I can find a 10th gen sage green paperwhite since they're probably gonna go on sale…much to think about
I watched a lot of reviews about new kindle paper white 2024 vs 11 gen paper white so far this is the best review I found 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼can’t wait to see your opinion about the colorsoft 🙏
Great comparison! I went for the color version because I like annotating my books with different colors, but I’m nervous the contrast rate for b&w will be worse as you said. I’d be interested in seeing you check it out!
Really appreciate your “daily driving” review which covered day to day aspects which tech sites just don’t mention. Yeah they tell you specs but I’ve not heard about these small body changes only a heavy kindle user would notice. Did you particularly notice a change in contrast (ie black text looked less grey?). I find these flush screens can’t quite match recessed eink screens for this (though lighting is much improved etc).
Thank you! I have been feeling the same way with most tech reviews. Usually the same specs without the "lived in" details. Planning to bring more of this energy to my reviews moving forward. I have noticed that the dark ink looks a little less gray but its not huge for just plain text.
How heavy is it compared to the previous model? 🤔 That was my complaint with the last model, was that it was harder to hold in bed because of the weight. Also, I can’t wait to try out the Color model and to watch a comparison between the two! I like reading manga, so it’ll be interesting to see.
Wowowow. This is the best review I've seen thus far on the new Paperwhite. This was incredibly helpful!
This was the best review of the new versus the old so far, thank you!
I second this. This review was a breakdown of all the features I was interested in, and answered all my questions. As someone with a 10th gen kindle. I’ll be upgrading to the signature

Now this is how you give a proper review. Great job! Thank you!
Thanks for the comparison to the 11th gen. It made all the difference, seeing them side-by-side.
i didnt realize the signature has no ads. that itself is worth it.
u can usually get ads taken off ur kindle for free tho. u js gotta go thru customer service and tell them u think the ads are inappropriate
I heard you can't no more
@@walkdeep rlly depends on the service rep u get
If you buy the kids kindle paperwhite (no difference between the normal and kids model) just don't activate kindle kids. There's no adds on the kids version
@@walkdeep i just did it a few weeks ago. just kindly ask the person to remove ads and it took like 5 minutes
Finally, the review I was looking for-engaging but to the point. Thank you! :)
Thank you for giving me the excuse to upgrade my old kindle
This is a fantastic review: basically answers every question I had on the differences, and you demonstrated them really well.
Thank you for showing Dark Mode, nobody else was showing this.
I am looking for my first Kindle and I am glad I waited for 2024 release. Thanks for the review! Definitely going to get one!
thank you for your comparison, exactly what i needed. and i love that you’re reading wings and ruin! it’s my favourite book in the series, enjoy!
Good, concise review that answered all of my questions about the 2024 models - thanks!
It seems that the update is not so big to worth a upgrade.
Yes it's more of a version to buy 1st instead of trading or replacing, or when coming from the older generations. The improved contrast is the best update to my use. The body color isn't appealing for me because I like to use a case.
The review we all wanted! Thank you for a great review!
One of the better product reviews for this e-reader I’ve seen. I appreciate the hands-on demonstration. Thank you.
Super good review. The best I’ve seen so far. Detailed and unique.

Will this new version fit in a cover for the previous version one or is the size adjustment significant enough for it not to fit properly?
I think I will still hold on to Kindle 4 (base variant 6 inch) from 2014 for now. 🙂
Wait...so they're coming out with a color PW? In addition to the just-released Colorsoft? May have misunderstood, can you please clarify?

I've got a Paperwhite i bought in 2014 that still works great. I replaced the battery in it but that's it.
But I do my reading on my Oasis. I was hoping they were going to update it but I think they're going to stop production. Best e-reader they have ever made and they quit. 😢
My old Paperwhite can fit in most of my pockets - can these? I love the look and the speed but I like having my Kindle in my pocket.
Please review the colorsoft. Interested to hear your take.
Seems a very very minor update..
I've been wanting to update my 8th gen paperwhite for the beautiful sage green paperwhite but since these newer ones came out I wanted to see if these were better. I will admit, I am slightly disappointed that there's no longer a sage green option, even though that pink one looks beautiful. I'm tempted to see if I can find a 10th gen sage green paperwhite since they're probably gonna go on sale…much to think about
How is the display quality compared to its predecessor? Sharper letters?
I would say the same sharpness but a little bit more contrast and less ghosting because of the upgraded screen tech.
I watched a lot of reviews about new kindle paper white 2024 vs 11 gen paper white so far this is the best review I found 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼can’t wait to see your opinion about the colorsoft 🙏
Thank you! My colorsoft video is already live!
Good video! 1 question left: is highlighting also faster on the new one?
Yes it is! And the menu to add an annotation pops up super fast.
So time to upgrade from my 2015 kindle
Oh for sure the right time to upgrade!
Do you see any difference at brightness 0? I only read without the frontlight.
I’d say the contrast is a bit better and of course the speed improvements are still there.
Great comparison! I went for the color version because I like annotating my books with different colors, but I’m nervous the contrast rate for b&w will be worse as you said. I’d be interested in seeing you check it out!
I was just thinking how useful multiple highlight will be! Excited to review the Colorsoft later this month.
If I want buy a used kindle paperwhit 11th gen in melbourne, how much is reasonable?
Not sure the conversion but I’d say an 11th gen for about $70-$100 USD would be a good deal.
@@graysontate_ Thanks bro
Why is the video image backwards?
oops I filmed this with my front facing camera and didn't think to fix that in post. I will next time!
And what about the light? Is it the same or not? thank you
Pretty much the same lighting system. The coolest setting is a tad bit warmer than the older version.
Like others would enjoy seeing new paperwhite versus color kindle. Also, do you use a case with your Paperwhite? Thank you. Great video.
I only use a sleeve when I bring the Kindle out of the house.
Does it have the same glare as the 2021 version?
Yes same screen texture and glare.
I am dyslexic as well. Use the dyslexia font on the kindle it has changed my life when reading.
How heavy is it compared to the previous model? 🤔 That was my complaint with the last model, was that it was harder to hold in bed because of the weight. Also, I can’t wait to try out the Color model and to watch a comparison between the two! I like reading manga, so it’ll be interesting to see.
12th gen: 211g
11th gen: 158g
So not the weight loss you were probably hoping for!
Really helpful thank you.
