Okay. First of all, if you hate Dean, you’re gonna hate my Gilmore Girls edits because while I recognize and acknowledge his character flaws, I understand the complexities required of a realistically written character. I also have a strong distaste for Rory beyond season 1, and even then there are some questionable moments.
Point being, I am not defending Dean in this video, nor am I laying sole blame for the affair on Rory. He was an idiot, he did something idiotic. He was a teenage boy who made a mistake he didn’t understand the consequences of.
But I will defend Dean’s “jealous” and “controlling” behavior. Was he perhaps a bit too overprotective? Yes. But he had good reason to be. He never started a fight with Jess, Jess always antagonized him. Dean simply countered, whether with words or force. Dean had anger issues but he was right to be paranoid about Jess, clearly, considering Rory cheated on him with Jess.
When it comes to some of the things I use against Rory in this - she was allowed to say or feel however she wanted in the episode where Dean tells her he loves her. My problem is the fact that when they broke up, she lied to everyone and let him take the fall for it. For another thing, was her statement when Dean told her he proposed to Lindsey factually accurate? Yes. But did she have the right to tell him what to do or how his life should be when she left him? No, no she did not.
Rory has a million other flaws I could name, but those are the main ones you could see in this video that aren’t self-explanatory.
Lastly, as to the affair. Dean was severely at fault. He shouldn’t have acted the way he did towards Lindsey, he shouldn’t have cheated on her with his ex, and he should have known better. However, I do think that Rory had a lot to do with it because… emotional manipulation. Rory, even after breaking it off with Dean, kept him on a short leash. Dean was still desperately in love with her and attempting to crawl his way into moving on, but Rory almost in a way, didn’t allow for that to happen. And her possessive language in her conversation with Lorelei after Lorelei sees Dean leaving, saying “He’s my Dean” is childish, immature, and petty. Rory also never faced true consequences for the affair, where Dean went through a divorce at 18/19 years old.
My other problem with this is that you can see Dean learned from his mistakes, and he grew from them. If anything, Rory threw a temper tantrum and when she didn’t get her way, she just picked up and moved on. She didn’t learn from it and that shows in how she does it again with Logan in the revival, whereas Dean is happily settled with his wife and a whole gaggle of kids. When Rory gives her spiel about Dean (all of which is true, mind you, and it’s the first thing she’s said in a long time that I’ve agreed with), if anything, he seems slightly uncomfortable. He’s moved on, and he’s happy in the end. Rory’s still hung up on the past. And that’s the difference that character growth makes.
Moral of the story, I think Rory left Dean broken and refused to put him back together unless it was for her own amusement. When Dean finally got away from her, he rebuilt from scratch. That’s the point of this edit, is explaining the point of view of a character who had his heart, mind, and soul broken one too many times by a girl, and showing the regret, the guilt, the bitterness, the pain, and everything else that comes with recalling the past.

I want to point out that the use of this song is meant to showcase that not only is Dean at blame, but he blames himself for a lot while also acknowledging that Rory had a hand in the problems with their relationship and the beginning of the affair. I don’t try to paint him as a saint or anything, he had his fair share of bad decisions and crappy statements. But this song’s message places blame on both the narrator and the subject throughout the song. The first line of the chorus is “All the things *I* did, just so I could call you mine.” That’s the point of this video.

Rory really did Dean dirty. He was sooo in love with her, and she threw that away by flirting with Jess while with Dean. Then she would get mad when Dean found a new girlfriend-eventually getting married. Later, she started talking with Dean again even though she knew she wouldn’t be able to control herself. They really messed with Dean. Some people may say that he was controlling. I disagree, I don’t think he was controlling while with Rory, like any partner I think he was territorial, and he had a reason for it bc Rory was falling for another man behind his back. They did change his character in later seasons for the worst, but Rory did not deserve him.

Say whatever you want about Dean, in my eyes he was nothing but amazing and loving and protective of Rory, he always did everything to make her happy, and she treated him like shit, she played with his feelings and with his heart and that’s the worst thing you can do to someone, and he kept loving her after she totally broke his heart.. I love Dean so much, I think Rory lost him big time, plus he is so beautiful 😍 but really, he was the perfect guy and she lost him

Am I the only person who feels like the writers COMPLETELY ruined Rory's character by the end of the series, especially in the sequel. The sweet and innocent Rory that we had seen in season one just takes advantage of everyone in her life who cares for her at one point or another by the end of the show. She takes people for granted like Dean and Lane at so many points, and in the sequel she LITERALLY forgets about her boyfriend ( I know that was meant to be funny but it's not fair to anyone to be treated like that) and on the other hand she chooses to be casually intimate with Logan even though he will be engaged to someone else. She breaks up with Logan for her career but she does not do her best in that either. Even by the end of the show she seems so confused about what she really wants. I know everyone can't be perfect but she could have definitely handled people in her life better. I was truly disappointed with her character by the end of the show. She had so much potential in all her endeavours but I feel like she tried to have everything and ended up with nothing.
I apologise if this offends anyone, but this is what I felt.
A lot of people defend her in my experience saying that “Oh, everybody has ruts, she’s not a failure,” this that and the other and I agree with that. That’s not my issue with Rory. I don’t like Rory because she’s selfish, she’s rude, she’s inconsiderate, she’s manipulative, she gaslights people a lot, and she often doesn’t care about how her actions will affect others. “Sure, I’ll sleep with my married ex-boyfriend who seems more than anything to be in a very vulnerable place because his marriage is failing, who cares if it hurts him or his wife in the end? Sure, I’ll go to Philadelphia and visit my ex when I’m definitely not completely over him and still in a very committed relationship. Sure, I’ll go to New York on a whim despite the fact that my mother who dropped out of high school to raise me is graduation from college with her bachelors tonight, maybe I’ll get back in time or maybe I won’t, who knows? Sure, I’ll go with this new kid cause he seems interesting and I wanna get to know him despite the fact that it’s gonna hurt my boyfriend’s feelings and make him worry the whole time because this kid is volatile and known to get into fights around school, and I’m not gonna apologize for it because… tradition?” I don’t like Rory because of her actions and a lot of the crap she says. And the body-shaming crap in season 4 REALLY left a poor taste in my mouth. So no, I don’t like Rory either. I completely agree with you.

I do want to disclaim something - I am not team Dean or anything like that. I do not believe they should have ended up together. I AM however, bitter about the way their relationship was handled and how much the writers destroyed for dramas sake. The way they made Rory act about Jess in season 2 and 3 ruined her characters integrity throughout the rest of the show, in my opinion. I do actually prefer Jess and Rory’s ultimate relationship, however, I do not like the way it started and how she treated Dean after being in a relationship for over a year. Therefore, I make edits like this.
(I’m not quite fully decided on a team to be honest because I know Rory and Dean weren’t soulmates but they were good for a first long-term relationship, Jess and Rory could’ve been amazing but so much got in the way and by the time Jess had some time and character growth, I didn’t want him and Rory to be together because he deserved better by then, and I like Logan and Rory’s relationship but I hate how much it changed Rory as a character(I strongly dislike Rory’s character beyond season 1 anyway, but by season 5 she was practically unrecognizable))

I hate how the writers introduced Jess, like they basically made him sabotage their relationship. Yes Rory and Jess are a good couple, but in my opinion Jess did not earn Rory, he knew she had a boyfriend but kept flirting with her. I could have a whole debate about this 😅
I explained my thoughts on this to someone else in the comments of this video so I’m gonna copy it here because I agree with you.
“ I wish so badly that what they had done if they wanted to introduce Jess as a character and also make him a love interest for Rory is that he moved to Stars Hollow and in all the stress in his life at the time, he met Rory one day because she helped him do something (I don’t know, maybe find where something was placed in the market) because everyone else in town hated him. They become best friends, they talk about books and they get close but it’s without any romantic chemistry. Because she’s the only person besides Luke who is there for Jess, he opens up at times telling her about his mother’s neglect and other things in New York, making her become more understanding of the facade he puts up and some of his mental health problems which tend to make him put up walls and shut people out. She’s the only one he acts like this around, with everybody else he makes out that he’s a rebellious kid, a slacker, somebody not worth caring for because that’s how he felt for years because of how his mother treated him and the entire town had already ostracized him as soon as he arrived so Rory being the only person to reach out besides Luke really affected him, which has made their friendship very honest.
That’s when Dean tells her that his father’s job is transferring and they are moving out of state again, while he has no choice in the matter. They have a tearful breakup because neither of them want the stress of a long-distance relationship while they are working towards college, and then Rory goes home to Lorelai. The next night, Jess comes over with a care package from Lukes, and suggests a movie night in order to comfort her. And THAT is when she starts falling in love with him, where he has the beginnings of feelings for her already but either doesn’t know it or has chosen not to say anything out of respect for her relationship. And there’s a few months gap, maybe what would’ve been the season 2 finale, and then they get together somehow.
Their relationship would’ve gone on to be less toxic, more sincere, and, of course, not born out of infidelity, therefore giving Rory and Jess a better buildup, for their fallout later on because I actually like the way that happened because it was somewhat realistic in nature with how Jess shut down because he felt like a failure so he didn’t let her in on anything. It would’ve been so much better.”

I think Linsey was really in love with dean. But I think he treated her like crap after Rory and dean slept together. If it was anyones fault about Linsey and deans relationship being toxic I think it would be Rory’s fault.
Frankly, I think all three of them played a big part in that. Lindsey screwed herself over with how she acted with Dean, and Dean was really defensive and secretive with her. While Rory was unreasonably jealous, like she felt she had a right to Dean just because he was her first boyfriend, and she kept Dean on a short leash by proxy, by keeping him in a friendship that he felt he had to keep from Lindsey, which didn’t let him move on from his feelings for Rory. I have plans for multiple videos with how Rory’s jealousy when Jess wasn’t the boyfriend she wanted him to be and saw Dean moving on was to blame for a lot of things in the downfall of her relationship with Jess and the beginning of the affair with Dean.

I wish that their relationship kept going longer in the show because they were so cute together. But like Dean didn't do anything wrong, he just realized Rory didn't love him as much as he did to her. But I think it was right person wrong time because Rory was still trying to figure herself out and like how in the video it said their relationship probably would've worked out way better if they met each other when Rory was older and had herself figured out and was more mature. But also she wouldn't have had that experience of their relationship and what first love was. Although, I think Dean had the right to get worried and a little mad at the end of their relationship because Rory was falling in love with Jess behind Dean's back.

I look back on this as being pretty poorly made, but I think I’m probably being too self-critical. It’s been over a year and I’ve come a loooooong way from this 😂 even adding to that, I find it strange that this is my most popular edit on this channel and you are just now finding it. Rory was not deserving of Dean. Maybe in the beginning but she grew into a character that questioned everything good and wanted to seek out things she knew would never work out in the end. She always thought she was deserving of things and sometimes she wasn’t. I really did not like the puppy eyes and victim look she always gave it started to annoy me.
