You can actually make it so you spawn in caves, and you can remove the surface. It just requires a console command before you start making a world. I forgor the command though, but it’s saved on my computer.

It would only be faster if Wolfgang was also chopping trees, and since they wanted to keep toadstool on the pond to prevent the spore attack, fire was the easiest and fastest option.
Basically what he said except chopping the trees would have been slower. We tried doing that for most of the attempts before realising burning the trees then moving toadstool to another pond is faster. This method also removes the possibility of toadstool spawning sporeclouds on you while you're chopping which is annoying
