I think the little dancing feet should be embraced by all sock knitters. it's a lot of work finishing a pair of socks and they deserved to be fully shown off like you did here!! loved it!
Hey! So glad to see you back safely. You didn't melt away or get flooded all over the place, that's good. Crazy things still going on in the South. Also here (generally in Austria), we had heat waves, interrupted by incredibly strong thunderstorms and more. July was basically only this or that. Where I am, we've been quite lucky. No major damages and we only had one smaller blackout so far this year, for about 15-20 minutes maybe. There were smaller cities and regions that had no electricity for several hours, some even over night. Oh, sorry, now I completely destroyed the mood 😣 Back to crafting! I'm still very much enjoying my Tunesian Crochet blanket project and I'm on my 9th square now (they are pretty big, will be blocked to ~29x29 cm before adding a border). And I now also found out that you can definitely do this in the round, with two hooks, one at each end of the cable. There's these hooks that you can just screw onto normal interchangeable knitting cables. And if you do it flat, you just put on one hook and a stopper at the end of the cable. Atm, I do the squares with a non-interchangable tunesian crochet hook, but I'm eager to test the other hooks when they arrive. And there's a third option which looks like on of those old straight long knitting needles, but ofc with a hook instead of the tip. So you just have the stitches all on the long "end" of this hook, not on a rather flexible cable. But it works in exactely the same way. And guess what - soon after I mentiond the Toft Advent, we now got the e-mail and I pre-ordered 🥳Guess you too?

A Steven West mystery I can do. Being in the desert it’s hard to justify most of his patterns. I want to knit them all but I never have a chance to wear them. I wear socks with sandals most of year. Yes I’m one of those people! But with socks so beautiful, why keep them hidden in shoes? Keep on shining!

Seriously - is there no end to Stephen West's amazing creativity? Those are fantastic and certainly not boring at all. I LOVE that heel and the top section the most, but also really like that the complexity of the pattern was not 'drowned out' by loads of colors - the 2 color scheme showed off the knitting beautifully. And YAY for getting gauge!!!!!! The dance was a treat too. Well done. And now we all look forward to your holiday stories and pics.
I love your socks they look fantastic and are so well fitted. I've just finished mine but they are a little big even though I swatched. 😂 My ankles have that 80's leg warmer vibe! So next time I'll knit size 1. Even with the slightly looser fit I still think they are the nicest socks I've made so far! I loved your socks dance😊

Super socks Martyn. I have finished mine - that’s my one sock and the first I have ever knit. 👏👏 for me 😁. This one will be framed and I will knit some more. I now have the sock bug 🤭. I used Attic Spin Dye sock wool and it has been super. Stephen was fabulous in his weekly tutorials and made the making of the socks so much easier than they might have been.
These are going to be my first socks. I went up a size, but think I should’ve also gone up a needle size. That’s okay, learning a lot and someone will get a nice funky pair of handmade socks.
I finished both socks mine look very similar to yours I used a solid turquoise and a light grey with speckles - it was the very first Stephen West knit a long that I have finished. I’ve started at least 2 of the shawls and got to point that it wasn’t worth saving. But sock knitting is something I’m very good at so finally a knit a long I enjoyed from beginning to end

I started the socks on time through the first clue but life got in the way and I am VERY far behind…..no….. “I’m embracing my own pace”! They are very enjoyable to knit (I must be trying to drive myself crazy….knitting a right and left sock per pattern….two at a time on one circular needle…🤯) Thank you for sharing your socks (I do think a sock fashion show dance is appropriate for socks that fit 😂) and I look forward to next weeks July round up! I love the where the rib comes down and the step section, but not keen on the brick and the fourth section. The heel looks great. Slip stitches? I have seen some great colour choices. No problem, just on the way home from our daughters wedding. Lots of tears, love and laughter. I may have been totally biased but she looked so beautiful on her Daddies arm. He had never mnade a speech but put his big boy pants on and did us so proud. He got a huge round of applause.. XXX

I've been keeping an eye out all year because I was really tempted to give it a go, but I have decided against it so I'm very much looking forward to crocheting vicariously through you if you do go for it again ;) I'm actually planning on visiting Cardiff for a quick trip next month (finally! Train strikes put a stop to the trip multiple times last year!). Do you have any yarn shop recommendations?
I used the 5th dpn from my other set. (I bought 2 sets of 2.0 mm dpns so that I could do both socks at the same time. Clue 1 Right Sock, then Clue 1 Left Sock, etc. and I “stored” the stitches on 4 dpns so the 5th was my cable needle) The stitches were so small and the cables were tight and it was just too fiddly to try to do them without a cable needle - I was too scared of dropping a stitch or 2. I didn’t find using the dpn to be fiddly at all.
I am trying with the Surprise Sock Along Stephen is brilliant but it's been a challenge. I am still on Clue 3 for the first sock but as Stephen says and you Martin have also said "Embrace your pace" and that's what I am doing . Your socks are terrific, the colors are great.
My problem was I had gauge but my calf is larger than my foot. I needed to do a size 2 ribbing with a 2.25 mm needle and then went down to 2.0 mm for the calf and I should have dropped another 6 stitches on the bottom of the foot and done 1 less brick stripe. But it seemed to be fine as I was going and then at the very end when it was off the needles it seemed to grow a bit. And I wasn’t undoing it!
The socks are great. The 2mm gauge will make them hard wearing. Forgot most homes in the UK dont have AC? With climate change might need to install a split system? Prediction is for us Aussies, will be having a hot summer. 🥵
