    So far this has been the most detailed and best ls teardown series. I just got a vette with an ls2 and I'm so grateful you made these videos

    Good tear down explanation. Very good inspection of block for probable cause. Good visual filming.

    Holy crap man, what a great video. Loved seeing how you overcame all the challenges. Hope I NEVER have any of these issues though lol. Great vid!

    If you rotated the engine after you got the engine head you could listen to the sound.

    I just put reinstalled my heads after swapping in LS7 styled lifters in my Base C6.
    Is it normal to see some moderate smoke after fire up?
    Its resonating from under the hood. Seems to be dissipating over time.
    I leveled off the coolant and purged the air from the system, seemed to help.
    I put a small amount of assembly oil on some of the internals of the heads. I knew they would sit awhile before I could install them. Could be just the oil burning away.
    I just wanted some feedback, since this is my first major project on this car.

      It is very possible that it is the assembly oil burning off depending on where you put it.

    Any recommendation for a short block or long block for an 05? Chevy dealers online catalog show them as discontinued

    I have a 2012 ss and mines is having the same problem lifters. Got to take heads off but scared of what I’m going to find.

    That is an ATI balancer. It is NOT fluid filled. It uses elastomer bands to damp/absorb crank twist.

    I'm installing LS7 lifters! Which way do I install the lifter oil hole up or down?

    • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't matter on those lifters, as long as the roller rolls in the direction of the cam and flats fit the plastic guide. The oil can easily travel around the smaller diameter of the lifter to get to the oil hole.

    There is absolutely o reason to take the bolts out in any kind of pattern. There is absolutely now way that can warp the head

    • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You've obviously never deliberately removed heads both reverse pattern on one and just from one end to the other on the other head in same engine before. I did that then watched them get surfaced and there was a clear difference.

      CrazedPerformanceRepair what are you trying to say here?

    • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikeeagle2653 translation: uneven removal = worse warped head and requires more cuts to surface the head.

    • @mikeeagle2653
      @mikeeagle2653 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      CrazedPerformanceRepair
      WRONG. The head will not warp from taking the bolts out. You can take them out any way you want.
      Maybe that’s the case with some other engine but definitely not on LS engines
      If the head was warped when you took it off it’s from someone over heating the engine.
      Not from removal of the head bolts.
      Where in the world did you come up with this idea?

    • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikeeagle2653 every head I have taken off is to some degree deviated, perhaps not warped but deviated. I have watched my machinist machine multiple heads, I pay very close attention to when they are machined. The ones that I remove in a uneven fashion end up with a slight banana to them, very minor sure, but still there. Prob still within lame gm spec but everyone that I have pulled off evenly and watched only hade the hill and valley deviations like most softer aluminum heads do with the exception of overheated engines of course. Do you not get it? I have experimented with it. I work on tons of ls based engines. Perhaps you have seen something different idk... Maybe you are claiming them not warped because you put a straight edge across it to check then call it good idk. Apparently you somehow get a different result though. Have you also noticed even brand new intake valves straight from the dealership almost always have a warp to them? I doubt it but maybe you have...

    you probably mentioned it, but how many miles on it?

    • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The corvette had 109,048 miles on it but that doesn't matter because it has performance work done to it before I got my hands on it.

    It would drive me nuts if I had to pull the heads just to get to the lifters. Almost as bad as having to remove the intake just to replace the injectors. I'd probably go nuts, complain about the president, eat bat stir-fry and listen to ungodly music.

  • @mikeeagle2653

    Are you serious with this video or are you just trying to make this video more dramatic then all get out. The lifter trays are the cause of lifter failure not the lifters

    • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lifer trays where in proper working order the lock for the pin of the lifter roller failed allowing the pin to slide out causing damage to the block.
