I love that you did natural cleaning products! I use white vinegar as a fabric softener. It works well, deodorises an actually helps against limestone in your machine. Vinegar also helps against limestone in de shower. Hope it helps!

Thanks for a great video. For cleaning glass you need nothing but 2 microfiber rags, a wet one which you use first and then wipe the window (or any other glass surface) with a dry one. Thats all. Something about the way the microfiber cloths are made cleans everything, just like the magic eraser on the wall.
As always, I love you videos. Take care.

My favorite room spray is easy. I take 2 parts water to 1 part rubbing alcohol, then you sent it as heavy or light as you want it. Little tip on this one... Give the bottle a little shake before use to make sure the oils are mixed in. I use 91% rubbing alcohol because that it is also a nice disinfectant 😊 but the alcohol helps the water to evaporated quickly leaving the good smell behind. I will spray on my comforter, drapes and throw pillows and blankets. My favorite fragrance oil is blueberry cobbler 😊

Rubbing alcohol isn't a thing in the UK. You can ask for it in pharmacies or order it on Amazon but it's certainly not common.

Vinegar plus baking soda is more or less fizzy salt* water.
*It's actually carbon dioxide-which is the volcano bit-and sodium acetate, which is apparently sometimes used to make salt and vinegar chips.

Great video Emily! I have started using vinegar a few months ago and I am sooo happy with the results! My recipe is very simple: just equal parts of white vinegar and water. I have also found a recipe for a cleaning paste you can store. It consists of baking soda with a little bit of dishsoap and some drops of essential oil, mixed together until they become a thick paste. You can scrub the bathroom with it, although I don't think that it disinfects.

Please note that not all surfaces can be use vinegar . The acidity of vinegar can damage stone / marble surface. and the cleaning tricks work during reaction between baking soda & vinegar. If we combine those two ingredients in a bottle , the reaction done before u put on the dirty surface.

From the regular white/dark/colour washing, I also do a separate wash with all towels (bathroom & kitchen), spray mop heads and my 2 year olds knickers and just wash with white vinegar and soda crystals and they always come up well. I wash the towels/mop heads like this so fabric conditioner doesn’t build up which makes it less absorbent and crispy. The mop head obviously gets very dirty/stained and they always come out clean, i do my child’s knickers because she was either intolerant to the detergent or conditioner and this has eliminated all issues. BUT for my whites, I use vanish too and they definitely come out a lot whiter

Really liked this video! I use water and vinegar for all my hard surfaces. Even just plain water and a good cloth leaves streak free windows, Windex somehow convinced us we needed a special product for that. I also love vodka and water as a fabric deodorizer; it works amazing and the vodka smell disappears when it dries. A really great bathroom tile cleaner is dish soap, vinegar, and water in a spray bottle; it works amazing. The smell can be overpowering though so I would only use this in a well ventilated bathroom. I agree with another commenter on here that dish soap and hydrogen peroxide is a great stain remover, especially for food and or oil stains.

I only use natural products made at home. With laundry detergent I don't use borax either. But I do soak my whites in castille soap first and then scrub stain with a brush. Then I put in washing machine with my diy detergent and it comes beautifully white. I have a little one who loves messy play so you can imagine all sorts of stains but never had a problem. I do also use the sun even if it's often cloudy here in UK. One friend uses white vinegar for whites she says it works but need to put quite a bit of essential oils. I've been using natural products for a very long time.i love them and the smell of vinegar really does dissapear.
So I wouldn't mix up the bak.soda and vinegar for the toilet first.id actually just sprinkle the bak.soda into the toilet bowl and then spray vinegar over the top so you have the reaction actually in the bowl(you can also make fizzy toilet bombs with citric acid that you plop into the bowl).
The other cleaner I'd have for you to try is a soft scrub because I know you like to use cif for your sink etc.so do I and it's pretty much equal parts of baking soda+vinegar+washing up liquid(you could use a bit less of washing up liquid as it foams up really well)stir together to make a paste and keep it in a tub and it lasts for ages but the best part is that it actually works wonders.i use it for all my sinks, bath tub, shower, tiles and toilet aswell.please try it,you won't believe how great it is.

Great video, thank you for doing it! One thing I cannot quite understand with most “natural” recipes I find...doesn’t vinegar just cancel out the baking soda and turn it into basically salty water?... I don’t understand the concept at all since they would cancel each other out. Is it the actual foaming reaction that cleans while it’s happening or is everyone seriously just cleaning with salt and water?

So nice to see you try out DIY cleaners that are better for health and the environment! :) For washing clothes you can try natriumpercarbonat instead of borax. However it'll work from 50degrees up and you'll need a product with activator (TAED) for lower temperatures. I use it to soak whites with for a bit before throwing them in with the light wash. I make my own washing liquid with chestnuts. It's free and works great.

Borax is really what gets the clothes clean. Instead of grating the soap, I just put it in the microwave and it expends into this puff ball that is easy to bring apart and grind into a powder as well.
I also make my own carpet powder with baking soda, Borax, and essential oils. I have two dogs and a cat and their stinky selves are always laying on our rugs. It makes the smells disappear and also good for bugs and things that they might track in from outside.

I loved the video!! I usually make the surface cleaner by the gallon lol and also use it for my floors. I sometimes change the scent on it to peppermint or lavandería or something more floral with the essential oils

I’m so glad you have tried it, well done 👏 loved it ❤️❤️❤️ we have swapped to most of the products you used as well as Norwex and loving it.
I wonder if Mrs. Hinch would ever try it, I always think about our little ones breathing in all the chemicals in ☹️ that’s one reason I started changing what we use X

    • @sarahnewton2267

it has vinegar in it so it will damage the quartz

I've read that vinegar and baking soda cancelled each other out when they were mixed . I was just wondering if there were other options for these cleaning products.

I’m always put off home made products as I can not stand the smell of vinegar. I made one once and it smelt soooo bad I had to use lots of chemicals to get rid of the smell 🤪 tempted to try again after this!

It is the lack of borax. It is kinda harsh on sensitive skin especially in summer. But it ok for rags and towels... for stains, you need to scrub them out or soak them with the mix and it takes time.

We use homemade laundry soap and Borax, and it doesn't bother any of us -- not even my son who has eczema! In fact the reason why we decided to make our own was because even the "gentle" or "baby" versions of commercial detergents aggravated his skin so badly. The only commercially-made one that didn't irritate him was way too expensive for us to continue using as his only laundry detergent. But as soon as we switched to homemade soap his skin started calming down and now he barely ever gets a flare up. For really stubborn stains on anything my son wears or sleeps on, I pre-treat with savon de marseilles, which is a French laundry soap, and it's gotten blueberry stains out of his white shirts.

Awesome video! I know your sad about the laundry detergent not working well. However that's not necessarily a bad thing and also makes sense. Using homeade soaps in your washing machine can actually void your machine's warranty. Also homeade laundry soaps don't really work well because they are just that, they are soaps, not detergents, so there isn't any actual detergent or enzymes in homeade soap and that's why the clothes don't come out clean. I'm glad you had better luck with the products in the spray bottles :)!

I think the vinegar and baking soda reaction dies down after a bit making it less effective over time.... I would have to look that up. Basically to say, I feel like making batches of it and saving it for next time-would it still be as effective later?
