Darren Criss’ acting is sooo good and realistic here. You can really sense how guilty, stressed, sad and eaten up by this Blaine is. Exactly how someone who thought they never would have cheated would act when they’ve cheated on the love of their life.
It’s 2020 and I’m still so impacted with Darren in this scene. Blaine starting off okay, and then nearly breaking down not being able to stop his voice from trembling, and then rushing into the end of the song because he knows he won’t be able to stop himself from breaking down for too long. The way he shows that he feels absolutely horrible, that he doesn’t even recognize himself and wishes he could go back in time because he knows he’ll never forget himself for hurting the love of his life so badly. And it’s killing him because he knows how broken Kurt is going to be, and he also knows that he’s got all the right to be like that, and he is aware that he has screwed everything and lost his soulmate. He cannot believe that even though he was supposed to be the one that protects Kurt and reminds him that he is beautiful, talented, kind and loved, he was the one who hurt him worst.
So I officially declare you my new best friend. I just finished Glee the other day and was mainly watching it for Klaine after Blaine got introduced, and this scene kills me everytime for the exact reason you pointed out. When he speeds up the song I just cry

THIS is the *exact* reason i always revisit this scene instead of listening to the acoustic version from the album bc that recording just doesn't measure up to darren's captivatingly heartbreaking performance

Kelvin Blair you can’t blame the cheating on Kurt. Sure, he wasn’t the best boyfriend at times, but when they moved away from each other, they both knew that they were going to talk less. Kurt got his dream apprenticeship, and obviously Blaine didn’t know how to handle not talking to Kurt everyday. Like I said in another comment, Blaine is a very controlling individual, and was not able to withstand the pressure of not knowing where Kurt was and what he was doing, and that caused him to do the only thing he thought he could control, which was cheating. When they were breaking up, Kurt talks about his loneliness, and how he’s had temptations, and chose not to act on them. It’s Blaine’s toxic traits + underlying relationship issues + Kurt moving away that caused Blaine to cheat. Don’t get me wrong, I love Blaine, he’s one of my favourite characters, but people make him out to be some sort of teen angel (see what I did there?) and excuse him for things that were caused by his insecurities and flaws.

I know he’s (intentionally) off pitch because he’s upset but it’s still one of my favourite Glee performances. Darren really is a fantastic actor, and people don’t seem to realise that. You can hear the heartbreak and the self hatred in his voice as he sings, the guilt...Darren deserves so much praise and credit.

This video showed how great of an actor and singer Darren is. For one, I have not watched more than four episodes of glee. Kurt was building his life in New York, which meant he wasn't as focused on his relationship. Blaine was well aware that they were still together, yet he still cheated. I bawled my eyes out at this scene. Klain is life at least for me in Glee. The fact he sang the song that made them fall in love the moment they met; made it an even bigger blow to my heart when it was the song he sang to brake them up too. They will always be my favorite couple on any TV show I watch because the are the reason I started shipping in the first place. When Blaine sang this song to Kurt when they first met I have never smiled the most in my life especially for a TV couple.
Darren is so talented. This being his own arrangement they allowed him to perform live on the show is already impressive enough, but when you see him perform TD live (with great emotion!) you still see the huge difference to Blaine performing it here live as he barely holds it together ... just wow. He really knows how to sell a song while staying perfectly in character. One of his best performances on the show. And man, do I miss Blaine!
I am SO in love with this version. I mean, I love Katy, I used to listen her all day long when I was younger, but he's such a good and underrated singer and actor. You can see the pain in his eyes, his face, voice and attitude and it is really impressive and I wish I could see him in more movies, because there is full of really bad actors and he deserves everything he want. I probably sound like a crazy fangirl, but I am just so impressed by his talent. He is even perfect in real life, I am sure about that.

I appreciate the fact that Criss suggested to Ryan Murphy if they ever write do a break up scene, that he do a solo rendition with just the piano, reprising the first song introducing the Blaine character to the Glee story arc. This was done in one take and is both well acted and well performed. Ryan Murphy has made so many great decisions with this series and has given many of the break out stars a lot of input with story arcs and flexibility with side projects. Kudos for that. I am curious to see what Criss will do after the completion of the series.

Blaine cheating was def out of character but this was a really good example of glee knowing how to use music and performance to communicate something not related to the meaning of the song at all. excellent performance from Darren Criss, it was such a beautiful cover but in his performance we can tell that something is wrong and he's using the music to 1. communicate that with Kurt and 2. apologize at the same time.
1:44 is the saddest part but it's also the realist. you can hear the pain in his voice
I love glee and many of the songs in the show. But this was on another level. In my opinion it has the most real emotion of any glee song.

Luis Alvarez I just found it soo sad that they didn't use the live clip. They just filmed and she sang in a studio. That's what makes it so different from this because it's so real. They should've used the live version from Lea

This video showed how great of an actor and singer Darren is. For one, I have not watched more than four episodes of glee. I've watched a lot of their music videos, however, this one brought me to tears. I'm in the bus right now on my way to the dentist, and I've been trying so hard not to shed a tear. So my nose decides to run instead... I need to buy the whole series. Such a beautiful performance!!!

It did make sense. Kurt abandoned Blaine and stoped contacting him after a while. Eventually, after cheating on Kurt, Blaine couldn't take knowing if he and Kurt we're no longer a couple due to Kurt not talking to Blaine. So he went to Ney York to see him and when he knew they were okay he told Kurt via this song. Honestly, Kurts reaction to this is understandable but he never did listen to Blaine properly for 2 years and it's not till season 5 Kurt realises the pain he actually caused Blaine and what he actually went through.

Kurt was building his life in New York, which meant he wasn't as focused on his relationship. Blaine was well aware that they were still together, yet he still cheated. He went to New York and sung this song, because of his guilt. Your comment paints Kurt as the bad guy, as if Blaine wasn't the one who cheated.

I just feel that Kurt should've done something to prevent the lack of communication and Blaine should've just visited Kurt sooner than he did. Either way, I'm annoyed at the writers for causing it to happen

when he said “i cant sleep, let’s runaway” that was real. darren is one of the most talented actors and this was live like what- he was literally crying, chris was crying, i think lea was too. this is my favourite performance on glee ever. this was so raw and real, the emotion makes it so much better. darren criss, literally the best actor of these years wow.

I love the fact Darren so all over the place and emotional i love it.
I bawled my eyes out at this scene. Klain is life at least for me in Glee. The fact he sang the song that made them fall in love the moment they met; made it an even bigger blow to my heart when it was the song he sang to brake them up too. They will always be my favorite couple on any TV show I watch because the are the reason I started shipping in the first place. When Blaine sang this song to Kurt when they first met I have never smiled the most in my life especially for a TV couple.

Darren is so talented. This being his own arrangement they allowed him to perform live on the show is already impressive enough, but when you see him perform TD live (with great emotion!) you still see the huge difference to Blaine performing it here live as he barely holds it together ... just wow. He really knows how to sell a song while staying perfectly in character. One of his best performances on the show. And man, do I miss Blaine!

I am SO in love with this version. I mean, I love Katy, I used to listen her all day long when I was younger, but he's such a good and underrated singer and actor. You can see the pain in his eyes, his face, voice and attitude and it is really impressive and I wish I could see him in more movies, because there is full of really bad actors and he deserves everything he want. I probably sound like a crazy fangirl, but I am just so impressed by his talent. He is even perfect in real life, I am sure about that.

I appreciate the fact that Criss suggested to Ryan Murphy if they ever write do a break up scene, that he do a solo rendition with just the piano, reprising the first song introducing the Blaine character to the Glee story arc. This was done in one take and is both well acted and well performed. Ryan Murphy has made so many great decisions with this series and has given many of the break out stars a lot of input with story arcs and flexibility with side projects. Kudos for that. I am curious to see what Criss will do after the completion of the series.
