Old stones and a lochside lunch! | Culsh Earth House | Blue Cairn Stone Circle | Pronie Loch

Blue cairn stone circle has been on my list for a while and I'm not sure what took me so long to get out here! The walk out to it isn't the most inspiring but it's short and the stones are easy to find. There seems to be just the large recumbent remaining and it doesn't seem (to me!) like it's in it's original position. There is a large cairn(?) just next to the stone but I couldn't find any information on it. Although it's disturbed and surrounded by active forestry it did feel like a special spot. Worth the little walk if you're in the area.

I've been meaning to catch Culsh! saw the trio of Ardestie / Carlungie / Tealing a bit further south, but didn't get up that far

Thanks. Most of the ones I've haphazardly come across on the Aberdeenshire map have been sealed/just a pile of rocks so being able to explore inside is just ace. Maaaan, I still haven't seen that trio and I'm so close!

there's a similar thing in the Halliggye Fogou in cornwall - all through winter it has a nesting bat population so you can only catch it in the summer months

It's a shame when you have to turn back but I LOVE that these structures are utilised by wildlife. 😄
