For the tall shifter question: on older trucks, those were used for more leverage to help the gears mesh easier. On modern trucks, yes, it's purely comfort or preference.

I guess Americans just prefer long shifters, I actually put a 4 inch shifter extension on my Subaru due to how low down it is. It feels more loose, yes, but I still prefer it lol

On a modern truck equipped with an Eaton transmission, the leverage is not required. It's like the crazy long handlebars on some chopper motorcycles. I've seen some trucks where the shifter is so tall it's just about rubbing the ceiling of the cab, and the driver had the range splitter modified with an extension so he could actually reach it. The manufacturers place the shifter at a height that is plenty comfortable for the average human if you aren't a fan of slinging a pole around the cab.

Thought I'd share something one of my teachers at college showed me, But Toyota have been messing with EV and hydrogen like most companies these days, but recently they converted 2 AE86's (because weebs) to electric and hydrogen, The hydrogen version it the interesting one as Toyota managed to get the original engine to run on hydrogen through only changing parts and fitting 2 hydrogen tanks in the back. If anyone wants a link I can provide one, but I think my teacher told me if Toyota can convince the Japanese government its viable and build the infrastructure for it, our internal combustion cars could be saved.

V8 forklift wouldn't survive. I used to be a forklift mechanic for Crown. There are some forklifts powered by automotive engines, Nissan and Mitsubishi 4 cylinders, GM V6's. I've seen two forklifts that the customer replaced the dead forklift engine with the block from the automotive version, both died in a couple of days.
A 2 liter 4 cylinder forklift typically puts out around 30-40hp. They beef up the engine and debate the output. It needs to survive the throttle being pinned to the floor for hours on end, inside of a tiny engine compartment with little airflow or cooling, and 500 to 1000hr oil changes. Say you didn't have the throttle floored, and were going a gentle 60mph, those oil change intervals are 30k to 60k miles.
Forklift engines typically live 20k to 40k hours, most of that being pushed as hard as they can be. That's the equivalent of millions of miles on a road vehicle.
