This is the best series I could find, without signing up on a specific course -- for which I do not have the time right now. Excellent info, images and presentation skills. Other presenters have not taken presentation training, don't prepare well beforehand, often give their back to the camera, ramble and mumble, and just don't come across as the professional they want us to believe they are. Actually, I am a professional presenter of many courses and seminars in finance and can tell that Rex has spent time not only on his subject but also organizing really well before going on camera. Excellent voice skills. Keep it up, son!

Yes, there is a great deal of math involved, I will show you how to use ballistic software to get these values as well as how to set up the calculations for excel. That will be a great rifle/optic combo my friend. Some folks might think you need more magnification, but you'll see when you get your S&B all set up that increased magnification is no substitute for optical quality. :-) Peace.
Yes, sir - good points. The flag method is a very crude field measurment that is commonly used and referenced in LR shooting circles. It "kinda-sorta' works" when other better observations like mirage or rising smoke are difficult to make. We will go more into detail in how to read mirage later on :-)
Mirage reading was extremely important to me in this video. I understand now why I am also having problems watching trace. Thank you, very valuable video for my circumstances. I shoot in Az and we have excellent mirage, but I have been having problems effectively reading mirage.
Sometimes i forget why I started following Rex's videos in the first place, so cool to have seen the channel grow and progress. The old ones are just as good now as they were 8 years ago though!

great tutorial. just one minor thing man. Multiplication and division have the same precedence so it doesn't matter what math operation you carry out first. It is just more convenient to do multiplication first cuz u dont have to deal with fractions.
Hmmmm.... I don't know about that. I've never really played with that model, I would imagine someone makes a replacement stock for it. Did you do a search on it?
If it seems to shoot well, then I wouldn't worry about it. If it is performing inconsistently, then that would be the first thing to check after you make sure all your screws are tight.
The USO ST-10s are really hard to get a hold of right now for some reason. I have one on order, but it might take a few months to get in. S&B are much easier to get a hold of. The S&B would also give you the best optical clarity possible. If you had the extra couple hundred bucks, the S&B would be sweet. Very tough scope as well.

Any of the aluminum bedded stocks will be a fair upgrade. Choate is just fine, HS Precision is real nice, and McMillan is very solid. It sort of depends on your taste :-)
The FM 23-10 has some of these charts, but you will want to develope your own once we get to the video on how to construct effective ballistic tables - coming up soon.
I've never played that game, but if its like real life you would multiple that 1mph value correction by the full windspeed x cosine of the wind angle and also account for variations in wind speed along the way...at FFP, halfway point and at the target for example. Average the overall wind for as many locations as you can, and that will get you pretty close.

Maybe you've done this but is there a web site with an HTML or attachments of all your tables, and titles/subjects of all the videos for more easy reference. Order of operations works in any order at 32:00, multiplication has the same precedence as division. Formula gives an MOA... but the adjustments are in MRADs? Do Army snipers carry a slide-rule?
Military snipers have the best single math formulae "charts" available. My first program was ALL MRADS, as well as the scopes. In Panama (Fort Gulick jungle warfare school) some years ago there was a "scope" mix of Mrad and MOA. Damn confusing at the time and some really good shooters (not mathematicians) flunked unfortunately and were assigned as platoon sharpshooters. I understand that that has since been corrected.

I shot at a match yesterday and there were 10:00 winds at 18 with gust to 26mph. A few guys hit the 1250yrd target. It was a low scoring affair for the most part.

What do you put into the equation if you are at a range of lets say 375 yds or 625yds? I understand that at 500 yards you put 5 as the range but what do you put in place of numbers like the ones I have? For 375yds would you put 3 or maybe 3.75 into the equation? Help me out Rex? Thanks!

TiborasaurusRex hey sir Rex,i want to ask you few questions that confuse me so much and can't find an answer. 1)In the wind formula you divide by a constant C and it differs from one rifle to another(different ammo) doesn't it? because if you only change the BC (different ammo) in JBM it's not the same wind drift even if the range and velocity are the same,so how does it vary(where did C constant come from(mathematical way)) and how can i find this constant C for any different rifles(different ammo type). 2)velocity of the bullet affects wind drift because less speed means more exposed to wind and that what JBM ballistic showed higher speed less wind drift my question is: the wind formula doesn't include bullet velocity in its variables so how does the velocity affect the equation and by how much.I think that the constant C is a result of a formula that include bullet velocity, am I right? if you can provide me with forums if it is complex to explain it here I can read it, I will be grateful. 3)JBM wind drift for 100 meter is 0.9 moa for 10 mph wind speed(90 degree) and MV(850 m/s) so if i want to calculate the constant C respecting this formula: ((range/100)* wind speed(mph))/C it's equal to 11.1111111.... it must be 15 for 100 meter range so what's gonig on ? i found another wind formula and i made the calculation and i hit all values for different ranges but it's totally different than the given one in the video.I need to know why there is so much difference. 4) regarding flag/wind speed equation is to get the angle of the flag with the horizontal and then divide it by 4 but flag's angle can be maximum 90 ,so maximum wind speed here is 22.5 so how can i know if the wind speed is more than 22.5? 5)how can i find the rest of the series i have till part-89? thanks in advance. btw you are doing a great job,well done. it's so comprehensive and informative.

I already have an AR-15 slightly modified, but after this course I think I may need a different platform based on what I'm planning to do. Would you recommend deploying an anemometer as one builds the experience in reading mirage as backup? If one's mirage readings are wrong I imagine it could throw off your projectile. Do you favor the anemometer reading or insist on learning to rely solely on Mirage?
@patrickanguss16-- If the wind speeds are the same, at your FPP and at your bullet's destination, they then cancel out. If you calculate that there is more of a cross wind at either your FPP or at your bullet's destination, then you factor in the difference. Hope this helps!
For the most part, MacD is absolutely correct. However, if you want to get technical, the crosswind for the second half, all other things being the same, would push the lead more. This is due to the fact that the bullet spends more time in the second (further) zone than the closer one so there is more time for the wind to push the round. This is typically negligible and MacD's answer is perfect for all practical purposes.
I bought a spotting scope and have been practicing reading mirage. Pretty difficult. It seems to work much better when the sun is out and at longer ranges. When its overcast i cant seem to find any mirage at all

Actually the order of operations is a human construct. You can use what ever order you want if youre consistent. People probably wont follow it tho

Yeah, just input 3.75 or 6.25. You'll be golden. :-) Just remember that this is a relatively crude method set up for the M118 mil-spec 173gr bullet.

My Dad was in the 10th Light Mountain and trained at Camp Hale CO for WW2. Saw the patch on the spotter that was and still is an awesome division

TiborasaurusRex hey sir Rex,i want to ask you few questions that confuse me so much and can't find an answer.
1)In the wind formula you divide by a constant C and it differs from one rifle to another(different ammo) doesn't it? because if you only change the BC (different ammo) in JBM it's not the same wind drift even if the range and velocity are the same,so how does it vary(where did C constant come from(mathematical way)) and how can i find this constant C for any different rifles(different ammo type).
2)velocity of the bullet affects wind drift because less speed means more exposed to wind and that what JBM ballistic showed higher speed less wind drift my question is:
the wind formula doesn't include bullet velocity in its variables so how does the velocity affect the equation and by how much.I think that the constant C is a result of a formula that include bullet velocity, am I right? if you can provide me with forums if it is complex to explain it here I can read it, I will be grateful.
3)JBM wind drift for 100 meter is 0.9 moa for 10 mph wind speed(90 degree) and MV(850 m/s) so if i want to calculate the constant C respecting this formula: ((range/100)* wind speed(mph))/C it's equal to 11.1111111.... it must be 15 for 100 meter range so what's gonig on ? i found another wind formula and i made the calculation and i hit all values for different ranges but it's totally different than the given one in the video.I need to know why there is so much difference.
4) regarding flag/wind speed equation is to get the angle of the flag with the horizontal and then divide it by 4 but flag's angle can be maximum 90 ,so maximum wind speed here is 22.5 so how can i know if the wind speed is more than 22.5?
5)how can i find the rest of the series i have till part-89?

I'm a beginner trying to complete the Sniper 101 crash course. I already have an AR-15 slightly modified, but after this course I think I may need a different platform based on what I'm planning to do. I've been looking for info and will like to see your point of view with respect to the scope with Horus reticle and the Springfield Socom 16 riffle.

Would you recommend deploying an anemometer as one builds the experience in reading mirage as backup? If one's mirage readings are wrong I imagine it could throw off your projectile. Do you favor the anemometer reading or insist on learning to rely solely on Mirage?

If the wind speeds are the same, at your FPP and at your bullet's destination, they then cancel out. If you calculate that there is more of a cross wind at either your FPP or at your bullet's destination, then you factor in the difference.

For the most part, MacD is absolutely correct. However, if you want to get technical, the crosswind for the second half, all other things being the same, would push the lead more. This is due to the fact that the bullet spends more time in the second (further) zone than the closer one so there is more time for the wind to push the round. This is typically negligible and MacD's answer is perfect for all practical purposes.

I bought a spotting scope and have been practicing reading mirage. Pretty difficult. It seems to work much better when the sun is out and at longer ranges. When its overcast i cant seem to find any mirage at all
