man I Love this review ... I saw one at the hobby shop but never have forked out the money yet for one. the comment about playing with it on the floor ... "CLASSIC"
While I completely agree that $400 collectibles don't have any business being constantly played with, a $400 item should be robust enough to not have the paint rub off under any circumstances.
"Under any circumstances" is probably literally impossible. I'm all for collector pieces being high quality and robust, but TBH I think some collectors sometimes set the bar too high.
If you pay $400 for a figure is supposed to be more durable than any toy, and you can play with it with no problem but if I figure that cost $400 brakes easily then is not worth that price.
Wow, as a Voltron freak, I have to say this review is very knowledgable! I was almost half expecting to find a flaw in it but you guys did a great job! You know your Voltron. Loving the Popy version you have
I subscribed on the strength of this review. I 'm also a child of the 80's who has really been getting back into collecting Japanese toys recently and I'm a huge anime fan currently experiencing GoLion for the first time. Your review was absolutely excellent. Can't wait to watch more of your vids!!!
Excellent review! I totally agree! Finally a grown up look at the toy. I have it and your points and counter points are right on! Great work and enjoy that great display piece!
I had the Bandai one when I was a kid. Kept it mint in the box with all the weapons and missles..when I went to college my mom gave it away.:( I was distraught when I got home that summer. I still love my mom!!
This is one of the best Voltron reviews I have ever seen. This woman is righteous. I couldn't agree more. If you're ever in need of a meal or a husband, my door is open.
I had to see this review because of another review that was pretty much complaining about every little thing , though he did give credit on the paint job. You hit the nail on the head. This is for collectors, not children to play with every single day.
love your channel, i have number 10227 of this set. still in the box and i'm torn because i want to take it out to form voltron... should i? i got it for less than $100.00 8 years ago, checked last week and it now goes for $400.00-$500.00... which set would you recommend to "play with"?
I remember way back when, when a toy that cost $5 was an expensive one (and that TWO WHOLE DOLLARS was a fortune.) Thus I tended to take care of my toys (for the most part, anyway.) I continued to behave this way as an adult. Maybe those who complained that this piece gets damaged from play never learned how to handle their damn toys, and thus should NOT be allowed to have high-quality pieces like this. We will allow them to have the cheap plastic ones instead. Tex the Merciless has spoken.
Awesome video, I'm looking around on the net and seeing different prices for the diecast versions. Some seem like a rip off because the most expensive one have seen was $599 on Amazon.com, there was one that was $145 but that didn't seem like a realistic price and I didn't want to take the chance of getting a plastic one, where do you suggest I should look for a fair priced diecast model? Thanks again for the video, great job!
I was thinking of selling my original plastic and Matchbox metal die cast Voltron along with the rest of my collection of Voltron accessories but after seeing this video you made me realize just how much I do love having him. So instead it looks like I'll being saying goodbye to Vehicle Voltron. Lol!
Watched this video and commented many moons ago.. but even until this time i still love it! Lol im gonna look for this very same Voltron masterpiece you have and just keep it displayed book packaged.
You're welcome!. I'm really enjoying Golion, just started the 2nd DVD Boxset. Today I got a letter from the bank telling me they're paying me a decent amount of money back from an error made on a charge on my account, I think I might use a bit of it to pick up this guy online. He aint cheap but he looks well worth the cash!!!
Loved your review & couldn't agree more with everything you said. I remember as a kid of dreaming of owning the metal version, and then seeing it replaced with one that had lions with goddamn PLASTIC LEGS and going WTF??!
Awesome review of your Die Cast Voltron.. this is the kind of review i like to hear when watching video reviews i was planning on getting the same one you have to display also but since the new 2012 voltron lions came out i decided to go for that. Either way keep the reviews coming.. i have the ultrazord from the first season power rangers review if you like to see it.. no reviews just showing how my ultrazord looks.
What a great video---Just uploaded a video awhile back of my 84 Voltron--If given a choice of plastic or metal--It would be metal anyday--I had the big plastic Voltron back in the day--It didn't survive--LOL--
Rod- thanks for the compliment... I think. My goal was to address what I felt were incorrect assertions being made to the buying public about this robot. People have to decide for themselves what to buy, but it helps to have the most information you can. There was certainly a lack of info on the diecast in general, and what was there was not substantiated, IMHO. Just trying to keep it real. And yes, Doro kicks ass.
It's a shame that more people aren't saying positive things about this piece- I love it. But you're right, there's generally just a lot of whinging. Like I said, guess it depends on what you wanna do with it. Thanks for the feedback!
I completely know what you mean. It just seems like it's going to be a letdown to get plastic, especially when the diecast is out there. Thanks for the feedback! -Melinda
The are actually remaking Space Battleship Yamato right now and they've been doing a great job. A sort of episodic release, so far what they've released has been great you should check it out.
Half chrome elbows? Havent come across that variation...dont ever remember seeing a half chrome elbow. You got me on that one,There are so many variations out there legit and bootleg that its hard to keep track! Im trying to find a lionbot that has chrome tails and elbows...near impossible
Great review....speak for my mind against all the metal haters. The only criticism I have about this piece is the robot chest. Proportionally, I would like it to be bigger and wider, similar to the old Popy one.
Wow... you tell 'em, girl ! ! ! That was a brutally honest, unapologetic, and accurate review. Who is this chick who pulls no punches, and tells it like IT IS??? Gorgeous, super hot, with brains, AND a love for the hobby... I think i'm in love ! !
I'm not sure why people spend the big bucks on this Voltron when you can get the one Trendmasters made in the late 90s. It has more weapons, has die cast parts, looks great, is a lot more playable (at least from the reviews I've read), and most importantly can be had at a significantly lower price.
***** I bought the Trendmasters Voltron, and left it as a display item in Voltron mode. The thing was pretty much a disaster with loose joints and durability issues. I believe I dumped it in the recycle bin before the big Mattel Voltron was even announced (and I would hold that up as the prime example of what a plastic, transforming Voltron should be).
I got him at 6 so it was more a shelf toy then to play with ! That’s why I Brock it so quickly! But man do I wich my parents had the for site on this one and held on to it till I was older! But ow well
Oh no... I hate to hear that. We've often noted the catch 22 of modern packaging. While it can really hold collectibles in place during transport, it makes it near-impossible to remove them without damaging them. So I feel ya. Sorry yours is damaged, that sucks.
Hey there, it doesnt look like you guys picked up the Miracle Production MA-01 Vehicle Voltron!! With the high diecast content of that, I would've thought you would have picked it up! Frustrating as hell to combine, but once done it is pretty badass!! Hope you can check out my channel and look at the MA-01 review! Cheers on a great honest review here! :)
I have both and its ridiculous how those morons just complained about the masterpiece being too heavy. The old Voltron is alot heavier and you can kill someone with it. Lmao You can display the masterpiece as the lions just fine. The black lion looks great even with its skinny legs. At least he doesn't look bloated like the older version. Either way I love them both equally. Michael's review of Panosh hit me in the feels cause I always wanted the 5 explorer pilot figures and never found them. I only had Zarkon and Prince Lotor which ended up being alternative villains for my Star Wars toys.
Great to see Melinda representin' the Retroblasting enterprise! No offense Mike, but she's prettier than you. ;-) Oh, and using Judas Priest's "Heavy Metal" off of Ram It Down to close it out is a masterstroke. Awesome job, guys.
To be honest the bigest week point of this guy is the damn Chrome Any Transformers Collector knows what Im talking about. I had this peace adn display it(I dint mess around with it cause I found the plastic version extremly cheap). Even without messing around with him the chrome will be demage, the best solution is to get one and keep it in storage and have the plastic one for display, also about the sword that Lions used in the anime, they are include with the new release of the MP Voltron along with the Key that activates the Lions and a stand base(better deal if you ask me) also the eyes of Votlron have a light-up gimmick. As for the desighn I have to say that they could make a far better job, Looking at Transformers MP Line or The Soul Chogoking of Combiners such as: GaoGaiGar,Dancougar,Ninja Robots,Voltes V,Grendizer etc they could have made the Lion more anime acquerite in my opionion and have the legs lot better looking. Now over all it is an great figure and Im happy to have it in my collection, it is impresive looking and majestic that represet the King Beast Defender of the Universe realy well but it lacks at some key points that shouldnt be ignore for the price they asking for it, I would love to see them redisighn it from zero to have a better result(and I hope they will do it) My score is for this figure is 8/10 (The -2 is for the legs of the lions that could have been better.)
glad that I live in a country where custom paint or repaint is cheap and done with awesome talent.repainted model looks more awesome than the brand new one ;-)
Very good, professional review . This types of toys is for adults ONLY not to play on the ground like a child . I am a professional collector too and as a collector and adult I only buy collectors editions and specials releases only , if you want a regular toy go to toy store ( rUS )
man I Love this review ... I saw one at the hobby shop but never have forked out the money yet for one. the comment about playing with it on the floor ... "CLASSIC"
I thought you were cool, but then you said you're a metal chick and even mentioned Metalocalypse, and it sealed the deal. \m/
Who is this woman, hot....intelligent and from the 80's....great review.

@@mariotovar2173 Nope.
That's very gratifying to me, makes me really glad I made the video! Old school all the way!!!
This is the BEST review EVERRR of this Masterpiece Voltron! I think I'm in love...with the Voltron that is!lol
Exactly. It seems that since we made this video lots of folks seem to agree. Thanks for watching! -Melinda

Hands down the best review I have seen on this set - thank you ,
awesome review !! I'm thinking about getting this version since I never got one as a kid. thnx for sharing this video ! you ROCK !
I had the Bandai one when I was a kid. Kept it mint in the box with all the weapons and missles..when I went to college my mom gave it away.:( I was distraught when I got home that summer. I still love my mom!!
Loving the Judas Priest to finish...enjoy that heavy metal!
Great review. I have two Voltrons, but nothing this detailed. I loved your hilarious comments about the complaints.
Ugh. The red lions peg that connects to the black lion finally broke on mine. Not sure how I can fix that. ☹
Great review! I read a lot of reviews saying to get the plastic, glad I got the die-cast. I only with Toynami still had the license.
Absolutely! Really glad you enjoyed it.
that review was so awesome in every toy and metal way possible.
This is one of the best Voltron reviews I have ever seen. This woman is righteous. I couldn't agree more. If you're ever in need of a meal or a husband, my door is open.
Melinda Rocks in this review. Keep these coming and your subscriber tally will sky rocket! Great review!
It's always nice to have 2, then they can play with each other and they don't get lonely.
Hey, was that comment about battling the Rancor a dig at Mike? LOL. Loved the review!
I had to see this review because of another review that was pretty much complaining about every little thing , though he did give credit on the paint job.
You hit the nail on the head. This is for collectors, not children to play with every single day.

I got that complete set on my 6th birthday and that’s the one I had!

I just love your acerbic
"This is not a toy" rant., ever since you put it in the channel intro lol
Awesome review, really enjoyed it
Excellent review of a wonderful toy. I used to have that figure for a while but sold it due to lack of space. Wish I still had it.
I was thinking of selling my original plastic and Matchbox metal die cast Voltron along with the rest of my collection of Voltron accessories but after seeing this video you made me realize just how much I do love having him. 3:43 Or the 1997 Trendmasters Voltron set. And yes this one was sold at Toys "R"Us I even have two of them.
I love the GX-71 VOLTRON released a couple years ago.
Nice work. Love the reviews.
People would never be satisfied! Thanks for the vid!! Great review... Straight to the point!!!!
"And battle your Rancor Monster...." Gee I wonder who that was aimed at? (begins whistling The High and the Mighty) LOL
Great review. The first US release was actually the 1982 Godaikin Golion, the Matchbox was the second release.
HAHA the Priest at the end was a nice touch.
Thanks, Craig! I hope you enjoy GoLion as well- I know I became an instant fan! -Melinda
Any video with Melinda in it is pure gold!!! She should do more!!! I like redheads also so that keeps my attention lol!
Awesome Review!
You rock! I had one of those 80s sets as a kid and it was awesome, i just wish they made some more villains/critters for him to fight.
You're welcome!. I'm really enjoying Golion, just started the 2nd DVD Boxset. Hey does anyone remember the name of the japanimation show with a battleship in outer space??? Its memory has been haunting me...
Cool video. great review.
coolest review ever!
Right on point... THIS AINT A TOY... Its a classic, masterpiece and a work of art!
It's a shame that more people aren't saying positive things about this piece- I love it. But you're right, there's generally just a lot of whinging. Like I said, guess it depends on what you wanna do with it. Thanks for the feedback!
you may be metal, but you'll never be a full metal voltron reviewed by a metal chic.
We need more reviews like Melinda's.
Out of the 7,877 views this vid has I believe 2,500 are mine lol I love this review!
I completely know what you mean. It just seems like it's going to be a letdown to get plastic, especially when the diecast is out there. Thanks for the feedback! -Melinda

Man I loved that thing! But at 6 it didn’t last long! The tails snapped of being the only thing that connected them to the arm lions
Thanks for watching!
Wow... you tell 'em, girl ! ! !
That was a brutally honest, unapologetic, and accurate review. Who is this chick who pulls no punches, and tells it like IT IS??? Gorgeous, super hot, with brains, AND a love for the hobby... I think i'm in love ! !
You nailed this review, great job! Now I have to whip out my Visa card and buy another one, thanks alot....
Awesome thanks!!!...It was bugging me for like over 30 years.
Yes, I am agrees with you 1000000%.
She's right!!!
Not for play, a Masterpiece for display!!!
You'd be happy to know that Madtoys has made a Golion figure also out of metal like Toynami Voltron set. Check it out.
the 30th Toynami Masterpiece Voltron is also cool.
Do one on the Legendary Defender Voltron.
Great review and a very good looking intelligent with respect 👍🏽
