May have been why Han in Stormtrooper Disguise was done as the first mail-away from POTF2 in '95. (Just a theory.)
Yeah that was a cool addition for POTF 2 in 1995, except they forgot about giving Han a Stormtrooper blaster (or any weapon) with that figure, although the two handed Stromtrooper blaster from the Princess Leia Organa 'freeze frame' figure is a pefect fit as Han can hold each handle in both hands almost as if he was designed to hold it.
You know I thought I remembered this but just assumed I was wrong. Thanks I needed this validation.

I think they look incredible.. Such love and care has gone in to making these. From the sculpt, the card and the coin. It’s the sad truth that there will be naysayers about it as you mentioned which is a shame as Smith Lord is obviously just as passionate about the subject matter and Star Wats as what the naysayers are. Your smile shows just how impressive they are..
I guess the question Leia should've really asked both of them is "Aren't your heads a little tiny for stormtroopers?" 😆 In all seriousness though, this figure's nothing short of epic, the hard work Smith Lord put into this shows.
the logo has stayed the same since I've been subscribed, and just now it changes and it looks great!
The way I see it, a quality custom job only *adds* to the joy of vintage collecting.

I'm sure that if the POTF line continued past 1985, that Han in Stormtrooper disguise and Tarkin would have been made. There were plans to continue the line, but sales dropped and no more movies were coming out yet.
It always bothered me that they made all those obscure cantina creatures but they never made the bartender!

I think Toy Polloi did a similar review on the same figures, and it is great to now see Retroblasting's reaction, too. Glad to see fans are producing high quality fan figures, and even repro figures. I get a perverse pleasure and satisfaction knowing the hard core, gate keeping anti-repro crowd are flipping their wigs right now, too! These hard core collectors need to get over themselves and realize not everyone has piles of money laying around to be able to pay $hundreds or more for rare vintage figures and accessories. Especially when these same gate keepers are intentionally cornering the market, and likely manipulating prices (directly or indirectly), out of nothing more than greed.
Some of the guys in the joe group's I'm in are so loud and obnoxious about repro that it just takes all the fun away. I got so sick of it and so pissed after seeing insults throw that I actually, openly started producing repros lol
I didn't really think much about repro until these guys showed up ranting and raving every week.
Hasbro doesn't care. There's a lot of sad, lonely, and bored "men" that have tried calling Hasbro, eBay, and probably the feds lol and they get laughed off the phone.

Repro are destroying the hobby of Star Wars vintage figures. If you don't have the money then save up. You can come across very nice loose figures for very little money. There are lots of stuff that are very expensive but that isn't for everybody just like in every area. There are lots of stuff I would like but I can't afford. I accept that and never turn to repro to replace it. Repro is shit and if you are serious about the hobby then you are on the right side of history.

I really liked this review. As someone who makes customs, I THINK I could Dremmel-out that helmet just a little, even though it may be a little scary. I would like to touch on people who don't like repros. Repros are no big deal. Yes, if people are trying to sell them while passing them off as original, I have a huge problem with that. But people like that are in the minority. All I have as far as vintage are the first 12, and all of their weapons are repro. I have no plans to sell them, and I would never try to pass the weapons off as original. Some people cannot afford to restore their figures to their former original glory. These are great, and thanks for posting this video. Also, I just aquired a beautiful example of an "Imperial Troop Transporter". Your video on repairing the electronics will be very helpful to me. Keep up the great work!

hello from the UK. watched Sws at cinema at the age of six. Anyway, always remember a Han Solo in storm trooper out fit, late 80s. Was in a supermarket, didnt buy it. Maybe they sold one in the Uk that wasnt available in the US.

Loving the new logo! Great video as well. I agree with that being a huge miss on kenner's part. I never had the Luke either as I wasn't the only child when the last few figures hit stores. Being a poor child in a single parent family, those were out of my grasp until adulthood. Probably explains the massive collection of Star Wars and Transformers I have now. Also explains why all vintage is still in good shape.

I got my Stormtrooper Han (the carded one) by Smith Lord Creations last week, and I couldn't be happier with it. Every detail about it... right down to the waffle pattern in the bubble where it's sealed to the cardback… is 100% like Kenner would have done it back in the day. I'm looking forward to what he does next!

-grand moff tarkin, which is coming out this year as an exclusive to the retro collection set game board which i have of course. The original game board. I mean.
-dark empire eu luke.
-ceremonial luke.
-walrus man's drunk doctor friend.
-unmasked darth vader.
-jabba the hutt human ver.
And there's many more after that. Go on google type in "starwars vintage toys custom" and when you see those customs you'll know what i mean of course. I forgot to mention one more.

There was no need for Han in Stormtrooper Disguise... had to save that figure slot for Imperial Dignitary :)

I've often wondered why that of all figures got made and other more prominent figures did not.
I dunno if it's because my vintage Stormtrooper Luke is a Palitoy version, but his head turns. I also remember him, carbonite Han Solo and various other figures that came out with Power of the Force being on Jedi cards in the UK. We never got PotF.
This dude is also doing a posable Yak-Face repro figure in May too! I can't wait. So glad I don't have to pay ridiculous prices for one now!
Good vid, nice to see a collection gap finally filled. Now, who is going to be brave enough and step up to the plate and produce a nice interlocking, three piece vintage style (with lights 'n sounds) Bespin playset, the Hasbro hobos or the repro guys?

This is a huge stretch but, there is a theory that yak face was supposed to be the sneak peak figure for the next starwars line, this means characters like han in stormtrooper disguise, tarkin, and the fleet trooper, were pushed aside for next time.
I just realized kenner wanted Lucasfilm to make a show where tarkin comes back to become the big bad guy after return of the jedi, the tantive 4 prototype could have bee apart of this line

I wonder if Hasbro intends on doing anything like this in the Retro collection. I mean if we're getting Tarkin, this seems like a natural next step. But then again... I doubt it would be this nice or on a POTF cardback. Great vid man!

I dont think it's strange that a Han(stormtrooper)didnt come out with the 85 potf line..I saw an awesome show on netflix about vintage sw figures.And in that it seemed that most decisions were made by older men who seemed out of touch.Especially by the end of the line..These custom han(trooper)looks great!.I would bet there will be a hasbro official release eventually.

It’s funny how some people get so worked up over these types of figures. If you love Star Wars you shouldn’t be against these figures complementing your collection. Either you collect just for the sake of collecting or collect because you love the movies.

You could dremel that easily if you have the long bending handle attachment for more precision.
I still remember when these came out - there was this legend among us kids that Kenner had secretly produced a limited run of Han Solo in Stormtrooper Disguise as well as Slave Leia, lol.

Wow I just saw this custom (or one very similar) on eBay, for a minute I was like wait what? I'm sure they only ever did Luke in Stormtrooper diguise! I agree why they didn't make this in the last 17 along with all the other figures that they should of done. Anyway it looks so authentic in the vintage style, they almost had me fooled. Hey wait Hasbro/Kenner might even make this, like they did with the 'new' vintage Grand Moff Tarkin.
that looks like a cool custom, now if they could only do a custom Endor Luke with removable helmet and green lightsaber..
Keep in mind Hasbro is rereleasing the original vintage figures, Target Exclusives only. Will be in stores in less than 2 months. It's a limited offering, but they are also doing a Grand Moff Tarkin in the old style :)
They look good, wish I could afford them now, I wanted some Rebel Troopers from vader trader but never got the scratch in time to get them :(.
My Han helmet goes on fine. My complaint is the arm's and leg's are not made from the softer plastic. It's the same plastic that is used on the body and head. I worry about putting the blaster in at a wrong angle might break the fingers. It probably won't, but I worry about that. It reminds me of C-3PO in that the arm's and leg's were stiff due to being a different plastic so it could be metal vacc'ed. I'm considering sending mine to Toy Polloi to swap out the arm's and leg's of two old stormtroopers to give it the real old feel.
I just wanted to comment a little on the "cutting off" of the vintage Luke heads...and the 4 poa "head not turning". I'm not sure where that information comes from? The Stormtrooper Luke (as well as about half the vintage line, Empire and after, figures) had a peg and socket head...which makes the head removable (much like modern Marvel Legends). Removing the head should not involve any cutting, and it should also turn. This is why this custom is often done, because it is so easy.
My saddest toy loss from childhood was in the second grade I lent a girl my POTF Stormtrooper Luke and Carbonite Han. It was the end of the school year and she forgot them the next day and then I never saw them (or her) ever again 😭😭😭

Cool, I like it, although Han's coin makes him look like Bea Arthur, and it would be cool if there was a Han Trooper variant with his head turned to the left like it is on the card picture...you know, since he can't actually turn his head...

I always thought repro or custom items are OK as long as they are easily identifiable by like the date stamp or something. That's fine. If they are designed to be identical, so You can't tell the difference, then that's counterfeiting.

Sometimes, the fans create toy models that are far better and higher quality than the original models made by a company that NEVER has the passion about the characters and other elements of the movie as it only has the desire to cash grab.
