To everyone this is not a drum solo! The King Brian Blade just play`s like this! Children of the Light is the group that Brian Blade is playing with. The members of this band are Wayne Shorter, Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci, & Brian Blade! This band for me is one of the best ever on the jazz history! Sorry for my english i am Portuguese :)
all this is true, although this particular gig is with brian blade's own band, the "fellowship," and here he is heard playing behind the great saxophonist myron walden
Outside of Tony Williams who I saw on tour just after Miles died, Brian Blades is the most amazing drummer I've seen. Had the pleasure of seeing him up close at a small venue in DC (Blues Alley). He appears to be in absolute bliss when he's playing.
Marcus Gilmore is my favourite cos he has much better technique and new school approach to go with it. Blade has a child like infectious approach to playing that is rarely seen, love the guy.
@@ryanbarber4362 Yeah, he damn well knows where every bar line is. But like many of the greats, he lays down sidewalks for us to walk on, whose cracks often line up with the off beats.
A lot of my friends who don’t know squat about jazz think it’s wimpy-like they’re thinking jazz = kenny g-esque elevator crap-until I show them Brian Blade. He’s as heavy as Bonham or Lars imo, just in a different genre
It's sad that jazz has such a nerdy connotation behind it. This shit goes HARD. You just have to sort through the stuff you don't like until you find that precious gold.
0:48 to the end was hilarious I got to see Brian in Portland Or, a year ago he was playing with Scott Colley and Edward Simon it was crazy a great group
Brian Blade is in excellent control of producing the exact sounds he desires - to think that he is not in control of his hi-hat sound is pretty ignorant. The intense and wild “uncontrolled” hihat sounds he produces in this clip is exactly what he wanted in this musical context

@@jacksonfrost7581 Yes ! Thank you for the information !! Myron Walden is absolutely AMAZING !!
This was the Fellowship band
0:30 Brian Blade auditioning for Meshuggah :)
I love this dude’s playing
That wasn't a solo, he plays like that throughout the entire gig lol
Is there a full video?
It was a solo, a sax solo
@@chikakumask4693 No but I have other clips from this show.
i wanna get so good at the drums to the point where it looks like im not playing the drums
Better aim for looking like playing the drums really well.
As a child playing with new toys. Sad that we dont see very often playing like this. He loves music and his instrument. Must see him playing once.
Witnessed his playing at a small venue in 2001. Hadn’t known of him before then. Changed the way I feel about and play music forever ❤️🔥
An absolute master of the craft!

That note that Myron hits at 0:29 are you fucking kidding me
Are you sure that's not Wayne Shorter?
@@canalrandom7912 yes
How does he play so out of time but land everything perfectly. What a phenomenal drummer
He wasn’t necessarily out of time. But playing some complex polyrhythms and feels that didn’t always line up with the rest of the bands rhythms
@@ryanbarber4362 Yeah, he damn well knows where every bar line is. But like many of the greats, he lays down sidewalks for us to walk on, whose cracks often line up with the off beats.
Art Blakey’s playing lives on.
he is completely one with the drums. amazing
yes ! thanks !
Grande!!!
A beast!
this is how i play in my bedroom (and in my head)

Please where is this full live performance
I don't have it. I have a bunch of short clips. I was standing in the front row next to "official" press so I could not just video the whole show.
我相信此时此刻,有一个节奏之神附身了!在节奏方面,我从未见过如此自然的表达!先溶于音乐,而大多数先考虑技术,俗称套路!
That guy look from backstage
0:31 Brian Blade sees god
0:48 to the end was hilarious

Who in the F downvoted this?
jazz snob quibble - this not a solo, but he's accompanying a sax solo. In every important respect it might as well be a solo, tho. As you were 😜
Oh Hi 👋
Shhhh...
tha' BLADE
What a pleasure !

OMG
What are those cymbals he’s using here?
I got to chat with his drum tech after the gig and hold and examine them. 22 Spizz left, 22 Old K ride, 22 K Con Light right.
i do believe ringo played 'em that low
I'll have what he's having
Anyone know the tune?
'Perceptual' I think
@@Nuxunumo Thanks! I'll check it
WHO plays sax?
Wayne
@@JuanPerez-xg6ltwhat song is it?
I believe its actually Myron Walden, because this is a fellowship, blade's project gig. Myron is a complete monster
aaaaaaaaaa:)))))) psijaoooooo;)))))))))
Intense : definitely
Brilliant : probably
He sat so low
, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
lmao at one point his left foot isnt even on the pedal he looks like that wilbur grasshopper 😂
its not solo
He's been asking for a solo for 40 hours, no one gives :)))
That's what my girlfriend did when she first saw my drums. We had to prise her off em and lock her out 😁
Way over the top. Just making noise.
😏 ok buddy
Hands down the most fucked up setup in history
Wdym
Maybe switch to decaf ? Poor hi hat control.
Shut up, can you do better than him?

I don’t get it…I find the drumming extremely erratic and annoying.
Then you certainly are not a jazz enthusiast
If you can thrash about like a spaz, sorta keep time, you can “jazz” solo. Jesus h
this guy really called BRIAN BLADE a spaz oh my goodness have you even listened to him
careful. your lack of education in the field is showing.
I pitty the fool soulless enough to see this as 'trashing around like a spaz'.
