  • This is Up Front with Simon Jordan. A show brought to you by William Hill that pulls no punches and tells it EXACTLY like it is.
    On today’s episode, we are joined by the Manchester United and Danish icon, Peter Schmeichel. Regarded by many as the greatest goalkeeper in Premier League history, Schmeichel was a leader in a dominant Manchester United side, winning the treble in 1999 as well as inspiring his native Denmark to a shock title at the European Championship in 1992.
    Join us as we delve into Schmeichel's incredible career, from his early days in Denmark to his time under Sir Alex Ferguson. We get the inside scoop on a dressing room filled with explosive characters like Eric Cantona and Roy Keane, whilst Peter gives his opinion on the signing of Andre Onana and the current state his old club find themselves in…

      I think Keane lives on his past experiences as a high level player. So he’s a great pundit as a result and says it like it is. Whether it’s accurate critique I dunno but it’s the reason he’s liked right? Says what he thinks, performed at a high level, won a lot.

      I'd agree there. No keeper had his presence, or his intimidation factor. His command of the defence in front of him was second to none.

Then Schmeichel arrived and changed how the game is played in-between the sticks. A huge, tough, agile attacking keeper. When it came to one on one’s it was about what he was going to do to the attacker not what they were going to do to him. It was a privilege to watch him play the game.

      Good comment and Im Glad someone mentioned Leighton. He just went to Man Utd at the wrong time and had the fallout with Ferguson. But he was phenomenal and even Brian Clough said "Scotland Have finally found a good keeper". He refound himself in the mid 90s and was sublime for club and country - the only issue is he had the great Andy Goram to content with.
      Schmeichel is probably the greatest overall, pipping Buffon.

A classic example of the twists and turns of life - He could have ended up playing for Poland had the circumstances been slightly different. For me, Peter was the best keeper United ever had. Legend, one of the most important buy’s in Man Utd’s history, a catalytic figure not far off the likes of Eric. Gave us everything too, nothing but respect for Pete, and I agree, I’ve been supporting United for 30 years, since I was 7yrs old, and don’t recognise them one bit, they’ve lost everything that I used to love about them.

    • @user-qx9fy8gu1w
      @user-qx9fy8gu1w 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Keep supporting, they were bang average in the 70s and 80's. If you're proper then you will know football comes in cycles.

    • @thesmithsnerd
      @thesmithsnerd 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-qx9fy8gu1w fully aware it goes in cycles, but also fully aware you have to break the cycle yourself, and you can’t do that with players like Bruno & Rashford. To simply say “football comes in cycles” - is to almost say it’s fate, and to just wait your turn again, that’s not how it works though, there’s people that have the power to trigger a different cycle NOW, there’s no need to wait years. United can be turned around by getting rid of a few rotten apples. And thanks for telling me about the history of the club I’ve supported all my life, I am aware though, and I’m also aware that despite not winning leagues, we had proper men in the side, we fought, we tried to play the right way, we won 3x FA Cups in the ‘80’s, had a captain & leader to look up to, a captain that represented and embodies the core values of the club. There’s none of that now.

    I really did like the interview, I usually like Peter comments about MU games more than any other ex-MU players because he seems to understand the problem of identity non existence at the club, but when he said that Ralph period was worse than Ole's, it kinda destroyed everything for me. I believe Ragnick was breath of fresh air, I don't understand how can anyone say anything negative about him, and I am very happy he is doing g fine with Austria. His name should never be associated with MU, because MU does not deserve it. Can you get Ragnick Simon ?
